Okay, I bought this game because I thought it would be fun to run around with a character I like and kill monsters with the wiimote. The previews said there were only seven characters, my favorite not being one of them. But I like Sophitia, and I thought that would be fun. The previews also said the story centered around Sigfried, (I hate Sigfried) but that's okay since I don't give a big damn about the story.

What I failed to grasp was that you can't select the character you want! You have to be Sigfried, and you unlock some other characters along the way, to use in addition to Sigfried. (Not "instead of" Sigfried.) The previews I read didn't specifically say this. And there's a "two player bullshit mode" (Not the full meal deal) But you can't even select it if you don't have two nunchucks connected. The need to stop that shit, I just want to see what it's like!

All the bitching about characters aside, the controls are pretty neat, with the Wiimote swinging and whatnot. It's pretty accurate, jab the controller forward, and Sigfried does a jab. Swinging horizontally or vertically performs the corresponding move. I get kind of button-mashey, so sometimes Ill run up to an enemy and just swing the controller around like a psychopath...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I don't like the targeting so far, you can't turn around if there's a guy behind you. (I think you can turn that off, I forgot to look) Plus, my wrist started hurting after awhile... as neat as it is, I think I'd rather play this with a joystick.

The reviewers say it gets pretty repetitive, and they're right. You go into a room, kill lots of enemies... they keep coming, and coming, and coming, over and over and over again. then you move to the next room, where you do the same thing. Over, and over.... the game is just combat. So, think of it as something like Final Fight.

So far I don't like it much, mainly because you can' t choose a character. (Maybe I'll get over it) If nothing else, it's neat to have the wiimote sword swinging gimmick working so well, but there's not much more to the game than that. Soul Calibur fans who like Sigfried will probably like it.

I played it for a couple hours today with the girlfriend, and our conclusion was it should have been included as a bonus mode in Soul Calibur 4.

That what I was thinking. I'll just wait for the real SC sequel next year.

I bear an astonishing resemblance to Siegfried...

*only tangentially related to the discussion*

Okay, now that I've unlocked some better characters, the game is really growing on me. In the point I'm at now, you don't have to use Sigfried. And the most important thing...

When I said I'd rather play the game with a joystick, I was being a toolbox like Tycho there. When you get up in front of the TV, and swing your arms around like an idiot doing the actual attack motions, it's actually quite fun!

It really is quite fun especially when you don't have to use Sigfried. But to me it resembles weapon master mode in soul calibur 2. Seems decently long though and it has a really good storyline.

So it's more like a beat 'em up, then? I had heard this was a Zelda-ish adventure game. Oh well, still sounds cool. I'll probably pick it up when it goes down in price. Thanks for the info.
