View Full Version : Can we get a "Top 100" sticky?

I can never find the top 100 lists when I need them. It doesn't help that "top" and "100" both have too few characters to be recognized by the search engine. I always find myself giving up and Googling into other sites top 100 lists. Can we get a sticky that contains links to all of the threads?
EDIT: Needed to do some rewording in there. :P

Yeah, I think the previous searching engine was getting over-worked with 3-char strings and fewer. You're better off doing the "top 100" in quotes and be sure to highlight the forums you want the depth of your search to reach.

We can use quotes now? Awesome!!
UPDATE: Just tried it. No workie.

Just go to Google and type:
"top 100" site:digitpress.com
That should work pretty well.

Wil this site ever get like an official Top 100 for all games (or all classic games) that forum users vote for?

Yeha, that would be fucking impossible. Consider that you're looking at a few thousand people rating some 40 years worth of games. You'd never get a consensus on more than a couple titles!

Consensus? I'm not talking about an internet discussion here, that'd be retarded. Just voting with a few simple rules. Like separate categories for Console and PC, Western and Imports.

If you want to make a post with a link to all the threads that will be half the battle. Then we can make a new thread in classic discussions, and the mods there could sticky it if they wish.

I know we tried this once before but I'll be damned if I can find it. I like the idea, it just needs a "champion".

Before I volunteer to do it, I' like to wait and see if someone more experienced is willing to do so. I don't know anything about this database or how to search it. Searching either turns up nothing, locked threads, thread variants, threads linking to threads, or threads providing dead links. I may give it a good shot but maybe the job is better left to someone more qualified than I.

I really think it would be more trouble than its worth. There's no way to we could possibly set up a poll with the thousands of options that would be required, and I think with everyone having different favorites it would ultimately be a worthless list.

Just to be clear...do you mean the top 100 lists that have appeared in various magazines/ web sites?
I made an index of all the "top xx" lists in classic discussions but the changeover to php screwed up the links.

Wow, what a day to show back up out of nowhere....
Deputy Moniker - just be prepared for the immense amount of work needed for doing this. From personal experience. I remember championing the forum user's top 100 using top 25 lists to make the vote tallies. Man that hurt my head, heh :D
Sad thing is I had like, 5 people helping me too. I'm not very good at actually -running- a project, maybe you have better managerial skills. I wish you luck, as I'd love to see how the rankings have changed from then (when was that, 2003? 04?) to now.

So are you just trying to have a sticky thread full of links leading to Top 100 topics, or are you thinking about building Top 100 lists? I'm now confused and actually amazed the "top 100" wasn't working. Flack's method works well and goes into archived posts so it can dig into deep records/lists.

I would like to be able to access all of our:
"DP Voters Top 100 Games for X System,"
"DP...Top 10 peripherals..."
"DP...Top whatever number of whatever..."
Whatever we have voted as the best of whatever. I'd like to find links to those threads in one place.

What we should do then is move all those threads to classic discussions and redo the index. If you have any threads in particular you (or anyone else) would like to see there, PM me.

There's an old Top 100 list here (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11976), but I can't find the one you worked on. I thought that one was more recent, maybe 2005 or 6? Wasn't it broken up into seperate threads for 1-20, 21-40, etc. or something like that?

Wow. See, that's a good top 100. I'm just shaking my head up and down as I view it.
