Assassin's Creed hasn't even been out 3 weeks, and it made the list. But I have a feeling alot of people here are gonna be pissed at 1up's selection for #1 on the list.

I agree with most of that, EXCEPT the last one.

I agree for pretty much all of the ones I've played.

Also, Super Mario Sunshine's camera can go fuck itself right off a cliff while eating a fat bag of shit. A decent camera would have made it a totally different (and better!) gameplay experience.

Assassin's creed shouldn't be on the list. I heard that LAIR and red steel were bad, though.

What, no Black and White? Or Impossible Creatures?

No, I guess the gaming world has moved on already.

I couldn't care less about what games were on the list--that was darn funny.

Assassin's creed shouldn't be on the list.

By law, whenever anyone does these lists they have to include a game that's just been released.

Fucking bastards put shenmue on the list! I do hope they make the third game and I hope suzuki is behind it (sure yakuza is good but its not shenmue and its not by suzuki which is fine but they are totally different animals and should be kept that way)

Say what you will about 7... and you probably do, loudly and often. At this point I think more man-years (or at least geek-years) have been spent bitching out and/or praising Final Fantasy 7 than were ever blown actually playing the stupid thing.

So true. LOL

Of all things, I'm surprised that Mario Sunshine is on there, instead of Mario Galaxy.

I like both games but I guess I just don't get Galaxy. In my opinion, it doesn't go anywhere near the hype that it was getting, and to a far less degree than Sunshine.

Rise. of. the. Robots.

That the patron saint of turkeys isn't on that list makes me a bit suspicious. I guess they were only covering the 3-D generation (without having said so; shame on you guys) but c'mon, there have been ridiculously overhyped games more momentous than Perfect Dark Zero, etc.

Jorpho

Hmm. Was there really as much of a hype machine in the era of Rise of the Robots as there is now? Perhaps there is good reason to leave somewhat older titles alone.

Daikatana and 2600 Pac-Man also readily spring to mind, but come to think of it, those have also been done to death and perhaps there is no reason to continue beating those long-dead horses. Perhaps this list makes sense after all.

Yeah, I agree with everything on the list, that's unusual.

Problem everyone else seems to universally love Galaxys just as when Sunshine was realized it was universally a let down. It's based on the oversall buzz of the game, not individual opinion.

That said I think they could have come up with a better example than a port of Shenmue II for top Turkey.

The original Shenmue would've made more sense than Shenmue II.

I'm surprised there's not a Sonic game on the list. Sonic the Hedgehog 360 most definitely qualifies.

I agree with almost all of the choices on that list (Especially MGS2, what a pile of shit that game was. Oh, wait, there was no game...unless I missed it by falling asleep through the endless fucking cutscenes)....but explain to me why the hell Shenmue 2 is on that list?

I could think of Many, MANY games more suitable for the top spot.

How about Forza 2 for a start?

Frankie_Says_Relax

(looks at list)

Well, they can call those games anything they want ... none of them (with the exception of Lair and Shenmue II perhaps) are financial failures. (And even those were released with A title distribution ... so I'm sure they sold "enough" to not dent the pockets of Sega or Sony).

The theme throughout the editorial seems to be "crushed expectations" for each of the games listed.

The lesson to be learned with any big-budget-super-hyped-game - don't buy into the hype until a game goes gold.

I loved the first Black & White.

B&W 2, on the other hand sucked hardcore.

If it's one thing I can't stand about critics of FF8 it's the attacks that are always levelled at the games romantic subplot. The junctioning system? Okay, I can see that. Drawing? Sure. But the love story? C'mon. I remember reading one review that murdered the games story because "No one ever says 'I love you.'" Yeah. It's called subtlety you twats. And if the writer honestly didn't see the romantic interest between Squall and Rinoa until the Faye Wong scene then I wouldn't recommend seeing anything with a real surprise twist. The Sixth Sense might make his head explode. This isn't a soap opera mate, they don't have to be fawning over each other for 40 hours.

And for MGS2: "Fantastic piece of performance art if it hadn't sucker punched my wallet." It's comments like that that prevent gaming from advancing as an art form. What do you want Kojima to do, start taking requests?

And Shenmue 2? What can you do but shake your head.

Rise. of. the. Robots.
This man speaks the truth. Most over-hyped turd-key ever served up to unsuspecting gamers.

I may not agree with the list, but the reasons they pointed out were pretty valid actually. I loved Shenmue 2, It's one of only two games I've ever imported. But moving books and playing lucky hit was pretty lame...

Normally I find Top 10 lists stink of lazy journalism but this one was enjoyable at least. I don't agree with everything on the list but it makes some good points. Especially about Fable. I bought into the hype on that one and was disappointed like everyone else. They missed Chronicles of Riddick though. That was another overhyped game that was more a lesson in patience than fun.

Thing is I actually liked most of the games on that list. Admittedly they all fell way short of expectations (largely due to being sequels to instant classics), but of the ones I've played I'd hardly describe any as fubared.

How far did you get into the game? 10 stars? The EB kiosk for 10 minutes? I don't know what there is to "get" -- it just is.

Doom 3 is not on that list, that game did not live up to the hype.

My own nomination - Phantasy Star Universe. Man was I pumped for that and did it turn out to be a letdown.

Wow. Two games I can't believe nobody has mentioned yet.

State of Emergency
Turok Evolution

Super Hype for both. State of Emergency especially. SOE is ok, Turok is crap.

How about Forza 2 for a start?

You serious? I like Forza. I would say the last two Gran Turismo games (3 and 4) would come before Forza 2 on a Turkey list. Motorstorm as well. I was so hyped for Motorstorm. Not all it was said to be. M2 had better kick ass. Potential is there.

i agree with most but not all. i highly enjoyed Fable and Assassins Creed. BUT i did not follow or pay attention to the hype and knew little to nothing about the games before i played them. everything else on that list? pure crap.

reason sonic for 360 wasnt on it is cause sonic games have been so bad for so long no one expected anything different

forza 2 is still amazing, even though its not all that and then some

B&W received wide critical acclaim

Assassins creed is excellent.

"The combat is boring, press x to win" Wtf?

Well maybe if he spent enough time to learn the combos, counter attacks and dodges he would have more fun.

Rise. of. the. Robots.

Daikatana

State of Emergency

Yes, I remember all three of those games being hyped beyond belief.

State of Emergency was being heralded as the next Grand Theft Auto III. However, in my store, most of the people who bought it returned their copies the next day because the it was boring, repetitive, and horrible.

By the way, remember this Daikatana ad? "John Romero's about to make you his b****." (http://www.gamethink.net/IMG/jpg/PC_2000_daikatana_infamous_ad.jpg)

My you like harsh terminology.

I would have to say games like Star Fox Adventures for GCN was severely overhyped. I would also nominate Pandemonium Bug! for Saturn. Definitely not terrible games but they were pretty much candy coated medicine.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about Messiah.

It was a computer game released in 2000 by Shiny Entertainment and Interplay. I remember reading pages and pages of hype for it in Next Generation magazine, but when it was finally released, the reviews weren't favorable.

The only thing I remember more than that is the 70's "porno" song made using the voice clips from the game. I think it was done my the same guys who did the "All Your Base" song.

Along the same lines, how about Advent Rising? Or Nox (the next Diablo!)?

I worked for GameStop around the time State of Emergency came out. We had at least two drawers dedicated to storing used copies of the game. It was nuts.

Also, I remember when PN.03 was hyped up. Wouldn't put it on the list, think that one belongs around the same spot as Advent Rising.

I LOVED Forza 1 like a son, and I played the hell out of it. I thought I was gonna love Forza 2 even more...but it lost all of it's personality with it's hyper extended realism, and became a borefest to me.

To me, Forza 2 overstepped the boundary of fun vs realism, and suffered terribly for it. That's not to say it's a bad game, but it sure as hell didn't live up to the hype...at least not in my eyes.

Gimme PGR4 any day....or even GT4 if I'm really desperate.

I don't think people would argue with your point of view, but the amount of hype Forza 2 got compared to say, Shenume 2, is negligible.

I thought Assassins Creed was a good game.

a LOT of glitches but other than that.
