Happy 17 big boy
This past Wednesday, November 21, 1990, the Super Famicom turned 17 years old, as did its two launch titles Super Mario World and F-ZERO. To celebrate the occasion, I've reviewed Nintendo's high speed futuristic racer (56K users beware!) (http://www.rvgfanatic.com/7401/751515.html)

????????
And speaking of Super Mario World, take a second to vote:
Between Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island: "Super Mario World 2" -- which one do you like better? (http://www.rvgfanatic.com/201601.html)
To boot, the SNES turned 16 stateside this past August. Any thoughts on those early launch days? Did you buy the system then? Remember all those early launch titles like Gradius III, Final Fight and Super Castlevania IV? Good times.

My parents got me an SNES for Christmas in '91, after my failure of being unable to win one on...dang it. I can't remember if the network was TNN or USA...
But, they had the "10x10 Giveaway," in which ten Super Nintendos were given away each day for ten days if you called an 800 number. I was SO close each time, but I wasn't the only kid who was watching the cartoons that summer. ;)

(Same reply at NG.com)In my opinion, the S.Famicom/SNES is still the best gaming system ever made…including the modern systems. The absolute flood of amazing titles is second to none:
-Mario titles (RPG, Kart, World)
-Castlevania titles
-Other Konami greats (Contra III, Turtles, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Aexlay, Cybernator)
-Numerous Capcom greats
-The many great Square titles (need I list them all?)
-The many first party Nintendo titles…
I could go on and on but the SNES is one of the most well rounded machines ever made, it basically has something for everybody there are many top-quality titles in that list.
My vote for the “best of all time” would have gone to the PS1 but sadly, many of it’s top titles have not stood the test of time like the SNES titles have…

There was a kid that I went to school with that always seemed to have the coolest gaming shit. He brought in his TurboExpress when everyone else had Game Boy. That sort of thing.
He invited me over one day to play his new Super Famicom, and I stood in awe at how great F-Zero and Pilotwings were. I mean, that was a HUGE leap from the NES, which had been my primary gaming apparatus of choice for the previous 5-6 years.
Super Mario World was cool too, but those other two simply had me floored. (Not to mention the Neo-Geo AES he had ;))

Happy Birthday, Super Famicom. Now you can go see Lethal Weapon 2 without a parent or guardian.

Super Castlevania wasn't a launch title (although it came out shortly afterward). Otherwise, I would have bought THAT instead of Pilotwings back in the day :p
Amazingly enough......I've NEVER owned a super. Don't know why, no reason really. Just never got around to it. My friend owns a shop right down the sidewalk from where I sit, and he carries tons of retro, SNES in particular. (there's been a mint complete of Crono Trigger sitting on the shelf for the better part of a year....it's a small town and no-one wants it...lol) I own everything before and after the SNES. Maybe I'll have to rectify the situation soon.

Same here, pal. I've never owned one, and I've never had a real strong desire to, either. I played it at many a friend's house, but I was too enamored with the Genesis to care. Maybe one day I will get into it, but not anytime soon.
Regardless, I will give credit where credit is due. The system did have quite a number of great games and I did enjoy playing them. Happy 17th, SFC.

I think I will most remember the SNES for all the trips to my cousins' house to play it, that and what was easily the best pack-in game ever.
An SNES and a handful of the right games could be all a gamer would ever need to be fufilled. Never so much variety and quality.
For everyone mentioning Castlevania IV was it not one of the greatest soundtracks?
