I'm looking to get a friend of mine a R4 cart for Xmas (possibly one for myself as well, not sure). Do you guys have any recommendations for a good place to buy one that will ship to the US?

$33 shipped...probably the best price you're going to find. I ordered mine from these guys over the summer (called DealExtreme.com at the time) and it took 2-3 weeks for it to arrive. They're totally legit though and lots of people have ordered their R4's from here without any problems.

Nice. I was also looking for one, that price is unbeatable.

I second that site. I have not got one since they switched the R4s over to volumerate, but dealxtreme is great (slow shipping, but that's all), so i can't imagine they would fuck it up.

I want to get one of these, but sooner, with better shipping. Does anyone have a reputable website they know of that would be able to ship one quickly? I would be willing to pay more.

DealExtreme shipped me a Chinese R4 when I explicitly ordered an English version! But at least they were pretty nice about exchanging it. (They even reimbursed shipping.)

Anyway, I think I know of a place that sells them locally here, but they're expensive, and there may be reason to doubt the efficacy of cross-border shipping at this time of year. I'll look into it. (EDIT: Nope, they're completely sold out.)

I must confess that, disinclined as I am to pirate everything in sight, my R4 has just been collecting dust. I think I tried out an SNES emulator once, but was rather unimpressed. What have you folks been doing with them?

Yeah, I'm wondering how the emulators run on them. Particularly ScummVM. And how about homebrew games? Are there any real good ones out?

Oh, I hear ScummVM runs just peachy. Now there's something I could do with it...

Oh yeah, it does. I've only played Day Of The Tentacle with it but I didn't have any problems at all. Plus the touch screen makes it a lot easier to navigate than the PSP version.

Only other emulator I've messed around with on the R4 was the Colecovision emu and that also worked great. Haven't touched the NES emulator yet but I hear that runs real smooth too.

Last time I tried that the sound was way off, and the teensy-tiny touch screen numpad buttons were a disappointment as well. Has that been fixed?

I've emulated NES and no problems here. It has been a while since I busted out my R4, but it is a great do-hicky. The store I ordered from, Redhotstuff.com, closed after not even a year of business. R.I.P. I think Nintendo got to them.

I don't care for the NES emulation too much as the screen isn't the proper resolution for it. Play mario 3, you'll see what I mean. Unless of course I've just got it configured wrong. It works great, just the scaling is a little fucked.
