hi all i was wondering if some one could give me a bit of advice concerning the sega cdx system. i recently found one at a local thrift shop. it had no controllers, av wires or the power plug.when i got it home i tried to test it with batteries and the music cd i put in was playing, as i hooked up headphones to it to see if i could hear sound. next i put a sega game cd in and i could also hear the music from the game as well. ok so i connect an av wire to the system, put i cannot get a picture on the tv screen.soooo i am wondering are you able to play games just off a battery source, or do you have to have the power adapter to be able to play games on this system? i am wondering if there was not enough power or juice going through the system to boot the games. or if this could possibly be another problem? i do have the right av wires connected and i know they work. any advice would be awesome!
i am hopping to get this running i am excited to play!

I don't own one myself, but I'm betting that the CDX will use the exact same power supply and A/V cord as the Genesis Model II/Model III/Nomad. Sounds like you've already got an A/V, but you still need a power adapter. Shouldn't be too hard to come by.

Only the CD player runs off batteries, you have to have it plugged in to play games.

Yes, you need the power supply to play games. It's a MK-4122. Output 9.5V, DC 1.5A, center point positive. Do NOT use a Genesis 2 power supply (MK-2103), it only provides 0.85A, not enough power.

QFT, it's the same rating as a JVC X'Eye strangely enough. ;) As was said, don't use a Genesis 2/3 power adapter - it'll fit but it is woefully underrated.

I used a genny 2 plug with no ill effects. So has my friend Brandon.

it may work but it can definatly shorten the life span running it on the wrong voltage or amperage and god knows they wont be manufacturing anymore cdx's so once we destroy them all thats it

The brick's amp rating is solely the max amps it can put out with out being damaged. The VOLTAGE rating is the important part. If you apply too many volts or too few volts you will damage the CDX. If the CDX draws more current than the brick can supply, you will damage the brick only at first. If used long term the damaged brick will not regulate the voltage correctly causing damage to the CDX.

I heard that the PSOne AC adapter works well. It's short on the Volts it has but it has more amps or something so it works well. Well thats what I heard.
