You know that Beat of Rage came out a few years ago it was pretty cool for it's time but it lacked moves, now we have Open Bor and it's been a long time but they finally improved the gameplay and it's awesome to behold. Here are the new mods for BOR which are really something imho.

Return of the Double Dragon 8.9/10

A really good remake and tribute of DD SNES, with a little bit of DDA thrown in, it even has really cool super animations.

Crime Buster 8.3/10

A really good BOR type game with good gameplay and nice graphics, can be difficult in parts.

Balance of Power 8.1/10

The graphics aren't so good and it has a dynasty warriors thing going on (not everyone's cup of tea) make sure you have a turbo button, but I liked it.

Battle Toads 8.2/10

Good old battletoads with some interesting additions and very cool platforming.

Are any of these DC playable or just PC only?

AFAIK most of them should work on a DC just check with the ppl from the lavalit forums

If you play only one of these mods make sure it is Return of the Double Dragon.

About that Balance of Power collection of shots. Is one of the backgrounds from Turtles in Time?

Yeah I think it is Wolf? TMNT TIT SNES was probably the best TMNT beat em up imho, even had extra gameplay options.

There are a few TMNT NES mods on that site I haven't tried them yet though.

So nobody cares? I thought you guys were straight edge retro hardcore?

Probably because a large bulk of BoR mods are extremely weak beat 'em up games with snazzy graphic packs. I love how one of the big features of Double Dragon is "EXTREME DIFFICULTY", as if a complete inability to decently balance a game is something to be proud of.

At least BoR provides a vehicle to put all of those ripped sprites to good use (well, other than Mugen). It's nice seeing what different crossovers and mash ups people come up with, it's just a damn shame almost none of them can actually make a decent game to save their lives.

Finally, the review system for the mods is completely broken and worthless.

I wouldn't say I'm hardcore but I do really enjoy retro. But to me this isn't retro. Sure it's neat to see a new game but that doesn't make it retro.

I know what your saying Roush and that would be true for the the original BOR engine mods but now we have Open Bor (which adds much needed gameplay editions) and I know Double Dragon EX wasn't the greatest but trust me Return of Double Dragon is and it has pretty damn snazzy gameplay imho.

Otherwise you could also try the:

IAF Script Demo Mod

It has awesome gameplay, fatalities and moves.... It doesn't work well on every PC though and they haven't found out why? But it looks very promising it may be the best OBOR mod once it gets released I played the demo and it seems awesome.

Very Samurai Showdown inspired with a heavy leaning towards the oldschool style.

BOR Mods are hit and miss. I played an SOR mod that wasn't great and there is that Mega Man one that had player animation that interfered with gameplay.

But when they are good they are pretty fun.

AYAND a oldie but a goodie, it isn't perfect but with some modding skills I was able to make it a 4 VS 4 Street Fighter Alpha with Ken. Dan, Bison, Sagat, Sakura and Akuma etc etc with most of their moves intact, crank up some mp3s and you got some serious fun on your hands. You'd have to do it yourself though I don't know If what I've done is that great a modification it was really easy with Bor Unpacker tools and I suck at technical things sorta.
