I don't know how everybody else feels about this series, but I find it pretty challenging. Lufia 2 is the only one I've played so far and I love it, I hope part 1 has all the same style puzzles in it. Was there anything past part 2 that they came out with that I am unaware of? I just decided to post this because I am fond of the game and wanted to see what you guys thought.

The first Lufia is even harder. I really enjoyed both games, although the first required some moments of grinding.

The first Lufia doesn't have much in the way of puzzles. It's pretty much a generic, cookie-cutter RPG, but it is enjoyable for what it is. Battles move along swiftly, the music is pretty nice, and the sound effects are really satisfying. The graphics are nice, but everything is palette-swapped WAY too much. Ironically, it's not the enemies that suffer the most from that, it's the areas, like how there are basically only about three or so types of dungeons you'll see.

Lufia II massively improved upon everything. More characters, and they're much more charming. A far more interesting plot even if it is loaded with generic RPG side-quests. Better graphics, music, variety, a lot more meat to the gameplay. It's definitely up there as one of the best RPGs ever made, if you ask me, even if it has gotten lost to time from a mainstream perspective.

There are two more Lufia games out there - one for Game Boy Color and another for Game Boy Advance. I haven't played much of either, but most Lufia fans don't care for them much. From what I have played of the GBA game, I can tell you that it's very much trying to rehash Lufia II, the most loved game of the series. In fact, if memory serves, I believe the story takes place simultaneously, and you even meet some characters from Lufia II, like Dekar. A lot of stuff was ripped directly from Lufia II like music and such. It doesn't seem too bad, but you'll have to go into it expecting a derivative experience.

Lufia 1 is a kinda generic rpg with a high difficulty level. using special offensive and defensive items in battle and to up your stats and level grinding is a norm. The plot is pretty good and has its shar eof twists.

Lufia 2 I found easier, with the hardest part being the puzzles. Luifa 2 also has some of the coolest battle and location musics...and a sad ending.

Did anyone ever finish Lufia: Ruins of Lore for the GBA? I put 15 or so hours into it one summer, but ended up loosing interest. The difficulty was borderline insane. The whole RPG standby of "level grinding" was close to impossible due to the lame dungeon design. There was no reasonable way to gain the levels necessary to fight the bosses. I'm just curious if anyone stuck with it to the end.

I'm going after some elf child who stole the designs for some submarine or something like that.....it sayyyyyys town of Portovia. I have to admit that I had to look up how to finish some of those puzzles. I cheated....oops.

lufia 2 also has the most awesomeest feature the "old cave" dungeon that is a 100 level randomly generated dungeon that you can get awesome treasures in, what makes it so neat is it starts you out at level 1 every time you enter it, and you can only keep certain treausres from each run (when you exit you revert to your old levels) you could only get the blue chests to keep. its a shame they fucked up the us version ,when you get to the last level the graphics are all messed up (game has alot of bugs unfortuatnly due to a piss poor localization job, don't ever go to the config menu!) great game, in fact the first one on gbc is basicly the old cave setup, its unique but again alot of people don't like differnt.

I can't say I ever really had to level grind in the first Lufia. The game can get pretty brutal if you like to run away a lot (and with the dirt cheap item that gives you a 100% rate of getting away, it's tempting to abuse it just to move through the game quicker, since the normal pace is pretty lethargic), but if you fight every battle you come across, which I usually did, you'd be more than leveled up enough.
