I've been playing Fear Effect on the PS1. I reached the end of disc 1 and the system prompted me to insert disc 2, so I opened the lid, took out disc 1 and replaced it with disc 2, but nothing happened. I pushed every button on the controller... nothing. I've browsed the manual twice and I can't see any instructions related to swapping discs. What gives?
Maybe a stupid question, but how do I get the game to continue with disc 2?
:?

Once you insert the disc it should start running maybe you have a bad disc 2. If it's any consolation Gamecrazy has a 4 for 10.00 on ps1 games i seen some disc only fear effect 1 and 2.

dunno how much this'll help but i have fear effect 2 minus disc 3 if u ever need it
but as far as your problem goes just take disc 2 to a movie rental place to get resurfaced

It's not a disc problem. All the discs are mint. It seem like a console issue. When I close the lid after swapping disc 1 for disc 2, nothing happens at all. The console makes no attempt to read the disc and no amount of button pushing accomplishes anything. What is supposed to happen? Is the console supposed to automatically recognize that the disc has been swapped at this point and load it up?

its been a while so my memories off since i played that game, but did it ask u to save the game at the end of disc 1? if it did just restart ya ps1 with disc 2 inserted and load from there, if not but your playstation reads your disc 2, go online and find a download for disc 2 to get continue the game at least

It almost sounds like your lid switch is broken. If you turn on the ps1 with no game in it, then insert a disc does the system recognize the new disc?

It almost sounds like your lid switch is broken. If you turn on the ps1 with no game in it, then insert a disc does the system recognize the new disc? Thanks. That was basically the problem. The lid switch wasn't broken, but there is a spring that wraps around the post that depresses the lid switch. The spring must be there to help raise the lid, but it must have been interfering with the proper operation of the lid switch. I removed the spring and the 2nd disc loaded properly.
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

I know where to come to for a technical question:)
