gather round those of you who think they have "played" games before as i tell you of a tale about one game that blinded me with life like graphics. "hard driven' " on the mega drive it was/is a racing game if memory serves you race against no-one ...(awesome), ou can not pic/choose your car and there is only one track...(super awesome) which i will say spilts into two parts a SPEEDtrack and a stunt track..(super mega awesome). But heres the thing...**a silence falls**... it was 3D ....yead **and the crowd goes super mega awesome nasty plus wild**. It was like i was actually there in that one track in some type of car which i can only guess is the car off the front of the cartridge, and the slick mission objective to beat your previous time. but as it didnt remeber your previous time the mission changed to looking super-fly in the 3D world

Wow, that was, super awesome!

I've never played this game, but I still don't think I am missing much. LOL

Welcome to the boards, but since when has DP's Classic Gaming section become a gaming blogsphere? Never. With all of the issues in this post and given your user name of choice it doesn't appear much good will come of this. Sure, Hard Drivin' was a great game back when it was launched, today though it's frame rate is too low, very primative 3D graphics, clucky controls and limited gameplay the only true advantage of having this game is to simulate crashes in the loop.

I freely admit that i'm not up on all of the clasic games out there, but you can't really rag on on hard drivin since it was the first 3d racer... ever.

It's especally impressive that they managed to fit it into an NES cart: http://lostlevels.org/
(scroll down, i don't know how to like to that article)

Hard Driven is one of my guilty pleasures and I'm pretty sure I've posted that comment a couple other times previously on the board when the game got mentioned

I know and understand that but it just hasn't aged well at all. The first time I played it was in '96 on the Genesis at a friends house and we spent so many hours after school messing with that, playing Warlords and dial-up with Warcraft II. Ahh, those were the days of middle school.

I thought it was pretty cool that the arcade cabinet had a little ignition key. Didn't seem terribly amusing otherwise.

Hard Drivin' has aged awfully, but I have to admit I thought it was kinda cool at the time. I have no idea what I was thinking.

But, if you drove through the cow, it went "moo."

This is my all-time favorite Genesis Hard Drivin' review. Kinda stupid but I always laugh when he does the "Boogide! Boogide! Boogide!" thing:

I corrected the spelling of the game in the subject so that future searches on this game will reveal this enlightening review.

And the game hasn't AGED badly, it was PROGRAMMED badly. Sorry, but even back then, the game was known around here as Hardly Drivin'.

LOL How did I never think of that?

I played the Genesis version and, more recently, the arcade version (via a compilation).

Aside from its 3d-ness, the game is terrible.

What happened to the original poster, u02nb5?

Anyway, I remember playing the arcade game back when it was released. At first, I thought it was really cool. After a few minutes, I realized it was an unplayable mess.

this game was such a POS, a neighbor of mine had it back in the day and i tried it, for exactly 15 minutes, until i saw a dust bunny down the hall and decided to go play with that instead.

I liked the original arcade version. Mainly because I hadn't played anything remotely similar to it to that point. But I always had a hard time staying on the road. It's physics were a little too good for my tastes, mainly because I've always preferred a more arcade-y feel to a driving game. But still, a novel idea that has fleshed out into a staple of video games. I don't recall playing the Genesis/Mega Drive version, but I did put a lot of time into the Amiga version and then later the Atari Lynx one. On the Amiga, I could get fairly far into it, whereas with the Lynx game I could never get past the loop-de-loop. I usually hit the cow a few times and gave up.

I really liked the Genesis version back in day, but that was mostly for going into the practice mode, trying to do crazy crashes, and then watching the replays. I tried it on MAT2, played one race, and haven't tried it since. It really hasn't aged very well at all, but I find that is the case for a lot of driving/racing games, especially early 3D ones.

I bought a Xbox for Midway Arcade Treasures 2 so I could play this game, so I guess there's at least one fan of the original arcade game here.

I also love Race Drivin'.

Agreed.

The only place to play the "XXXX Drivin'" series was in the arcade.

Even the Lynx version (with scaling and rotation in the hardware) sucked hardcore.

Awesome, you start out as the HARD DRIVIN' CHAMPION.

That goes nicely with the "no competition" part.

EDIT: What, I have been LIED to. There ARE INDEED other cars.

this looks

TOTALLY AWESOME!!!11$@# okay, back to waiting for Cruis'n on the Wii (seriously, I don't get the anger directed at that game)

I gotta go with the anal glass play lovers here.

I like the game. I remember playing the shit out of the arcade cab after I figured out how to start and shift the game :p. Then my cousin got it for his pc. Played the shit out. Picked it up for the genesis. Played it some more.

The games graphics don't look so hot today and there are some crazy physics and bugs abound. It is still fun to crash cars or send them flying off the loop de loop. I could do it today for a couple of hours no problem and love it! The accidents are top notch awesomeness!

Well, i never the belief..no idea that there was anyone else that indeed strapped them-selves in and felt the hardcore G's placed by this game and it unique approach of cow in a shopping trolley driving. It was mega-cool and by default so was I !!!

It does matter what anyone says whether opinion or techy 2 things lacked from that game.....1) side line bit babes and 2) a game
