Okay, I know this was karma giving me what I deserved, but I must say I feel a lot of love for my PSP at the moment.

I'm talking to my gf and playing a little GTA at the same time (hence the karma) when my PSP suddenly slips from my hands. It cracks against the counter (screen first) then drops a solid six feet to the ground, sending the battery cover (and battery flying in different directions) and popping the UMD slot open, sending the game into the next room.

Well after a long bout of "FUCK FUCK FUCK" I finally gathered up the courage to go look at what I assumed was a brand new paperweight. I pick up the pieces, put it back together and examine my little baby. Not a scratch on it. Keep in mind the screen hit the corner of my counter then hit the floor and bounced into the stove. All face first. Not a scratch on the body either. Everything feels solid, nothing snapped off the cover. Check the UMD, perfectly okay. Boot the sucker up, everything works fine (except I lost my game in progress due to the battery taking flight :( )

Whoo.... heart attack averted. I think the case must be made of out liquefied Superman. Has anyone seen the guy around since the PSP launched? Just figured since Sony is getting a lot of hate I thought I'd relay some good news about their products. Anyone else have any close calls with their PSP?

Consider yourself lucky! (In a good way!)

I've seen penty of cracked and damaged PSP's, but like all things, it takes impact trauma in the right spot to do the damage.

I would imagine taking the brunt of the impact on the battery door side was a good thing, as that's the area that could absorb the most impact, and through equal/opposite reaction physics - eject the battery cover and battery instead of sending a crack right down the front of your faceplate!

I think we should have a anniversary of my previous psp topic (wiped with a damp towel) wink wink

That was pretty entertaining. Hmm... perhaps I did indeed luck out. Maybe I should start making offerings to it.

I've dropped my old model PSP so many times. Granted it wasn't 6ft drops off of anything, it still sent pieces flying but it has always worked perfectly. I too give a +1 to the PSP durability. I'm sure the DS is just as good if not better, but the PSP can go through a suprising amount of abuse without getting messed up.

Sadly, the UMD drive on my daughter's PSP couldn't survive being thrown at her brother because he was teasing her... (ftr, she's still using that system - I installed 3.71-2MM firmware and now she has to play ISO rips of our UMD games from her 4GB memory stick)...

I've dropped my phat PSP before as well, and never suffered anything more than a cracked battery cover. Those first few moments are definite heart attack material though :)
