Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) issued a formal press release today trumpeting the August 27 availability of its Network Adapter and launch of the PlayStation 2 online network.
The adapter will of course support both analog and digital Internet connections and is suggested to sell for $39.95. SCEA will have 250,000 units of the adapter ready for the product’s “initial launch window,” and is targeting 400,000 shipped by year-end.
Sony will also launch a multi million dollar marketing campaign to boost the new service. Beginning in August, the promotion will get out the word via print, TV and online advertising, national POP displays, direct mailings and other dedicated events.
