A friend of mine picked this up today for $50 and has no idea what he got. He runs a pawn shop, and that's about the extent of his involvement with it. He is looking for any info that he can get on it. Whatever you might be able to tell me would help him out. Here's a picture of it.

Thanks in advance.

If you ask me that thing is pretty cool. I was thinking about getting one when they first came out. A steal for 50 bucks!

This might just be the deal of the motherfucking century. If it's got MVS cart slots, this thing is instant win. I don't like the way the buttons are laid out, but you could always fix that.

It doesn't, the review I linked to says it uses a compact flash card to load the games or something.

Still it's just a rombox no mvs pcb in it.

Dunno if it be worth to mod though and put a mvs board in it.

Maybe some thing like a,MV-1C would be cool to install beside..the doing some rewireing as well.

If I'm reading the review correctly, it's a standard JAMMA harness meaning you could drop a MVS in there with no problem.

I'd take one for $50. Good deal, not deal of the century though.

Pawns near me just got 5 of those Midway mini arcades and while I recind my earlier comments about the game play being busted, the monitor is still shit as are the controlls. Plus, there's no way a used version of that is $150.

I've seen a few pics of these before, but never come across one in real life. They are indeed Jamma wired, and run everything from a CF on a tiny PCB. If you wanted to fit a NeoGeo PCB in there, I'd say that an MV-1B is your best bet (smallest 1 slot).

I do wonder how they expect you to play comfortably on that thing in 1 player, let alone two of you trying to play. Personally, I'd pull that CP and get a new metal single player 7 button CP cut. Nice new Sanwa buttons, joystick and a Kick-harness and you'll be able to play a lot more than NeoGeo. You'd have to have the boards sat outside the unit next to it, but on a hot summer's day a CPS2 fan would keep you nice and cool ;) If you can get more that cheaply then I'd definitely think about replacing the CP with a single player one, and having two of them set up back-to-back, Japanese Versus style.

I don't think these are exactly the same as the Midway ones. I can see just from the picture that the controls are better.

Yeah, I know that. I was just mentioning that while this guy's pawn shop got something good, all I got out here is crap.

That was actually the first thing to come to mind: Controls. Every bartop arcade I've come across has crappy controls and lame game selection. It's as if bars believe everyone wants to play touch screen flash games around here, why can they not get a nice Neo-Geo setup similar to this one but for Gods sake please give me good controls!

About the ROM/MAME part, screw that. If I wanted emulated then I'll emulate it or buy a software compilation with modifiers.
