I finally have a CD burner, so I've started backing up some of my older Sega CD games (since burned copies supposedly play without modification). Unfortunately, there's a problem. For example, with Snatcher my burned copy will load up the title screen, but once I try to continue a saved game the Sega CD will simply sit with the access light blinking. I know the saved game is OK, because it works fine with my "normal" copy.
I know all of the data was copied over successfully, so I don't think missing data is the problem. Is there a particular type of CD-R that's best for creating backups of CD-based games, or is there another problem?

I'm thinking it's the CDR media because mine isn't reading a cheapo brand I burned to. As well, a drive in a laptop wouldn't recognize the same disc unlike my PC. I'm going to try a better brand later.

I use Memorex discs and I've never had ANY problems with Sega CD burns...not ever. I back up my more expensive ones as well :D

I keep a burnt copy of Ikaruga and my real copy sealed... :D

So do you think it could possibly be the brand, or the color? My Snatcher backup is a red TDK CD-R (the read area is still silver though).

I can't say a ton about the brand, other than "Cheap is usually fine, cheapest sometimes isn't..", but one recommendation is to always burn 'sensitive data' (music, games.. um, pretty much anything) a reasonable bit below your CDR drive's max speed, and always at or below your CDR media's max speed. A lot of times just taking it slower will help out a reasonable bit.

You need to talk to Captain Yashiro. We were talking about burning Snatcher and I think he said he had problems doing it for some reason. All my I've done work fine, but I think there's a problem with trying it with Snatcher.
