I just beat the regular castle. How do I unlock the inverted castle?

Okay, to get the inverted castle, you need the glasses from Maria. Once you get the gold and silver rings, wear them both in the clock room, and a new passage will open up. You'll meet Maria and get the glasses. If you wear the glasses during the fight with Richter, an orb will appear. If you attack and destroy the orb instead of killing Richter, you'll unlock the inverted castle and be able to get the better endings.

What are the better endings? Is the inverted castle as long as the first?

Yeah, the endings are better. It's worth doing the inverted castle, because there's new stuff to explore and new treasures and new bosses and Dracula. I mean, it's worth it.
It is as big as the first castle, but it won't take you as long to complete it, because you already have most of the stuff that helps you explore.

Definilty worth completing the inverted castle. I offed Richter and thought I'd played enough of SOTN but upon a friend's urging (read: annoyance) I decided to start a brand new game and do the inverted Castle. This was earlier this year. It was like I was playing a whole new portion of the game. Although Drac went down like a scrub, the ending was worth seeing and the inverted made SOTN feel like a more complete 'Vania game.

If you haven't played through the inverted castle, then you've played at most half the game. It's well worth doing both parts, I promise you.

Huh? You posted just for that?
There's countless cheat sites that could give you that info. Google is your friend.

dude you are only half done the game...
No kidding. I used to ask about certain parts of games here, never again. No one ever helped me, or simply sent me over to google or gamefaqs.

If it's something complicated...yeah, absolutely. But something like that? Why post and wait 10 minutes for a response when you can find out in 10 seconds via Google search? I don't understand why people act so helpless.
No offense to you or the original poster, but there's just no reason to...that's why online strategy guides and cheat sites exist in the first place.
Go away.
Um...fuck off?

Google is the tool of the devil! Just type in porn and see all of the pages of unadulterated evil that pop up.
Oh yeah, and we're supposed to be boycotting gamefaqs or something :-D

I posted because I enjoy the casual conversation that goes along with the obvious answer. At least I did until your obnoxious comments.
For instance, if the 2nd ending is even worth it? How much more game is left to complete? Etc...
Thanks for the worthless bump.

And also...now people who never knew about this in the first place can go back and replay their old games. You can't google something you don't even know exists.

I don't know if the ending makes anything worthwhile with it's craptastic voice acting, but the inverted castle almost doubles the gameplay. If you play the inverted castle, you'll notice that your game completed percentage goes above 100%. Plus some of the best bosses in the game are in the inverted castle.

I watched the ending on Youtube. It seems pretty on par with the rest of the crummy voice acting.
The only thing that puts me off is the more and more obscure and hidden everything got as you get closer and closer to 100. I can only imagine it almost requires a guide to get the most out of it after 100%

Alright, enough...stop being a drama queen. Would you like me to call the waahmbulance?

Fair enough...but this being one of the most popular video games of the last ten years, I think most of the video game population is well aware of it.
Anybody know how to get to the minus world in Super Mario Bros? ;)

Indeed.

Some of the best music is in the inverted castle, along with far creepier and darker play. You MUST play the inverted Castle, or you're really not playing SoTN.

I don't think these things are quite the common knowledge you think they are. I've played SOTN many times but never all the way to the end. If you want to drive the conversation to things *you* would like to talk about feel free to start your own thread.

I got all of the treasure and stuff in the inverted castle without a guide. Now stop making excuses and go finish the game.

I don't think you can even say you've beaten SotN without doing the Inverted Castle. Anybody who knows anything about Castlevania knows that Dracula always comes at the end, so it would surprise me if someone actually believed that you're SUPPOSED to kill Richter (who Castlevania fans would also know as being a hero, not the final villain of a game). All the endings you get without killing Dracula are "bad" endings. They're essentially a fancy way of saying "Game Over". You may not have been killed, but you messed up and the story isn't resolved at all.
So, yes, the Inverted Castle is absolutely required playing. It may not be as fun as the normal castle (considering it's just an upside-down palette swap of the castle you've already completed) and it's got a few other flaws here and there (one music track is reused for the majority of the castle, for example), but, overall, it's still very fun and completes the experience.

This thread is much more enjoyable with PingvinBlueJeans on your ignore list. I suggest it for anyone who enjoys an adult discussion.
