I just saw Flack's picture on CNN International! He was rocking the C64 and the British announcer gave a plug for his book! Flack, you're famous!

Grats on the plug, Flack.

Man, let me tell you how weird it was to be eating dinner and watching the latest news on the student protests in Tehran and then, almost immediately, a cut to a C64 logo, then a cut to a picture with "Rob O'Hara, C64 User" in the caption! So cool to see a familiar face on tv here on the other side of the world :)

Flack is sooo dreamy... and he doesn't even know I exist! **SIGH**

I've got Flack puffy stickers all over my Trapper Keeper, and his Tiger Beat picture taped up in my locker, right next to Andy Gibb.

So how did you get CNN to plug your book and show your picture?

I wish I had some kind of recording device hooked to my tv--I would have recorded it for sure :)

Yeah, ask them if they can hook you up with a recording or something. Especially if they plug you and your book, they should be able to give you something. Try and push it as advertisement for your book or something like that. ("So and so from CNN called this book blah blah blah spider experts)

It's a good book, and such a plug is well deserved. I recommend that everyone here who hasn't gotten it looks into getting it.

::Heads for the local Barns and Noble, then asks the question::

"Can the book be found at such a store, or do I get it from the big man himself? Or am I just an insignificant speck to man of such standards?"

It was a CNN International story--I don't know if it was shown on American CNN or not.

You can get it here: http://www.robohara.com/commodork/index.php?file=order

It's an outstanding read, definitely worth the fairly modest $$$ you'd blow on it.

Glad to hear about it, but wish I would have seen it.

Here is the online article:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/ptech/12/07/c64/index.html

However, the videos are brief at best. The birthday video is cute, though.

The computer featured 64 kilobytes of memory (a lot for 1982), a huge index of games, a sophisticated sound chip, and a relatively parent-friendly price -- $595.

Every time I read this it just blows me away at how many they were able to sell at this price (and Apple ]['s were even higher!).

Of course, compared to the IBM PC and the Mac, it was pocket change, but still, to get a machine that is basically a typewriter and game player, geez...

Oh, and Commodork is definitely worth a purchase. Next to David Sheff's Game Over, it's my favorite video game-related book.

I enjoyed Commodork also, well worth the money ;)

As for the C64, they initially made it for $140. Yes a quarter of the selling price. Which is how they were able to reduce the price to $395 by Xmas...

I actually checked into this yesterday. CNN does not provide recordings to the public but there are companies that record all CNN broadcasts 24/7 and will provide you with a specific clip ... for a fee. I've already contacted them to see if they caught the segment on CNN International, and how much it will cost to get a copy of it.

Can the book be found at such a store, or do I get it from the big man himself? Or am I just an insignificant speck to man of such standards?

You can get the book from any of the following sources for $15 + shipping:
#1: directly from me. PM me or check www.robohara.com/commodork for details.
#2: from Lulu: http://www.lulu.com/content/381416
#3: from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Commodork-Sordid-Tales-BBS-Junkie/dp/1847285821

If you don't have a preference, order it directly from me. I have the fastest and cheapest shipping of the 3, and copies that come directly from me are also autographed.

So how did you get CNN to plug your book and show your picture?

Like many of you, I also saw the C64 article on CNN's website. There was a place to leave comments and upload pictures, so I did. About 30 minutes later I got an e-mail from someone at CNN, asking if they could interview me via e-mail and if I had any more pictures. I answered their questions and submitted a few more photos. 30 minutes after that, someone from CNN called me, asking for photo releases for all the pictures. I told them I took all the photos except for one that my mom took; then, they asked for my mom's phone number, to clear that photo! I just assumed this was to post all this stuff online, along with the other article. I had no idea they were going to use it on television!
