Hey, I liked, and have beaten Super Pitfall several times. :)
{snip}
I can't believe no one has said Shaq Fu. Trash!

dave

My sympathies on the Super Pitfall to completion :D

Shaq-Fu! Why did you have to bring that mess up!?!? :shameful:

Some of my "worsts" include:

Transformers for NES/Famicom, near-insta-death
Yet again , Athena, one of the few times SNK has disappointed.
Legend of Kage, pretty pointless and mundane
Moon Cresta (I know that those who love it, LOVE IT, but I can't stand it)
Time Killers . . . sucks

Worst games ever:

XMEN for NES
Zoom for Genesis
Hunt for red october for SNES
Dragons Lair for NES
Waynes Workd for SNES
Pit fighter for SNES
Bubsy 3d for PSX

And one more vote for E.T. on 2600..that was really awful

I vote for Star Voyager - NES. Just horrible.

-MUSCLE (NES)
-Captain Planet (NES) has anyone been able to get past the first level?
-Battle Monsters(Genesis)
-Pit Fighter(Game boy)
-Fist of the North Star(game boy, NES)
-Time Killers(Genesis) Arcade one sucked too
-Double Dragon 3(Arcade,Genesis,Game boy)
-Dungeon Master II(Sega CD)
-Power Moves(SNES)
-Bayou Billy(NES) why do people like this game?!!
-Punisher(Genesis) Arcade game was cool though
-Alien vs predator(SNES)

-Street combat (SNES) My vote for worst game ever hands down. You have to see this beast in action to truly appreciate how bad it is, good god.

I think punisher for genesis wasnt as good as the arcade version, but i would never put it in a "WORST GAMES EVER" list....

I like the Genesis Punisher... now, the Genesis version of Captain America and the Avengers IS a big stinky pile of dung.

11-21-2003, 06:15 PM
HEhe i hate to disagree too, but Captain America for Genesis was a good arcade translation! I loved the voices, the undersea levels and flyign levels!! It was cooL!!!!

Mark III
11-22-2003, 01:06 AM
I still think Punisher for the Genesis was pretty damn bad. Someone took an awesome arcade game and beat it with a big sack of ugly.

They DID down-size the graphics of the arcade game, but the game is by no means one of the worst games ever...

11-22-2003, 11:48 AM
What type of game was godzilla?

death1024
11-22-2003, 12:05 PM
It was horid. You ploted out your course on a map then Godzilla would move. You did not actually control Godzilla in any other way. There would be some cut seens of the monster destroying buildings and getting attacked.
There was no actual interation other than the map.

IT SUCKED !!!!!!

I never saw the NES version. I think the terrible game play would be acceptable on NES. Maybe they just ported the NES version to SNES.

Saturn Sensei

Pulse Racer - Xbox - oh the horror. PSX-level graphics that still stutter like mad between 5 and 30fps. Worth the $9.99 though, just to see how bad games can get.

Gravity Games Bike has already been mentioned. How anyone could release this unplayable, unfinished piece of................ is beyond me.

Rise of the Robots: Truly awful. Basically a fighting game with 2 moves. I beat it first try, no continues, no lost rounds, on default difficulty(3DO). The Edge-reviewer apparently beat the Amiga version by jamming the joystick up-right with a rubber-band, and then activating auto-fire!!! X_x They described it as a "non-game".

Kabuki Warriors is another turd that I beat on the first try. No continues, no lost rounds. Truly awful.

This thread wouldn't be complete without mention of Shadow: War of Succession for the 3DO. The game is so horribly bad that it brought me to tears with laughter. In fact, it's so bad that it's amazingly good. It couldn't possibly be worse as far as making a competent game. It couldn't possibly be funnier, though. I highly recommend it to anyone. You won't believe your eyes. It's as if the people who made it were trying to sabotage the company. In fact, people even suggested that this was the case.

I made some videos of it for anyone who is curious.

1.Tag Team Wrestling{NES}-Says on the Cover "Based on the Arcade hit",but this game sports 2600 type graphics and some of the worst controls ever and I cant see how this game was fun whatsoever"

2.Krusty Fun House{Nes}My aunt must have seen this on the bargain bin lot because it is in an embarrsement to a great show

3.Eternal Darkness{GameCube}-Some people love this game but I took my gamecube back to Walmart because this game let me with such a sour taste in my mouth

Yeah, just read the entire thread. I have some agreements and disagreements.

1 - Eternal Darkness (GNC) - how the hell can anyone say this is a bad game! THis game ROCKS! What BUGS OH NO THERE COMING TO GET ME!!!! oh...only an illusion.

2. Cosmic Carnage (32X) - Not THAT bad of a game, I remember having some fun with it. So while not the worst...not the best either

3. Crash Bandicoot (PS2) - One of my favorite PS2 games! And I have about 150! This game was just simple, straightforward fun. I loved every minute of it.

4. Eve Of Extinction (PS2) - Also had fun with this...The weapons rocked and while semi repetive and short...it rocked all the way through. If you dont care that it's a mindless beat em up

5. Bubsy 3D (PS1) - Im sorry, everyone hates on this game, for an early PS1 game it's not that bad...well, it wasnt back when I played it. I remember having mad fun with this one.

6. Spongebob (GCN/PS2) - OMG! Someone KILL ME! THis game was HIGH on my want list back then...then I got it, and after trying so hard to like it I eventually realized that this game based on a cartoon that both kids and adults loved was only aimed at the kids. The retarded kids at that.

7. Pit Fighter (SNES) - Wheres the gameplay...theres nothing here, its worse than some of those old Tiger Handheld games. Id much rather be playing my old BOWLING handheld I got at Super 10 back when I was 5 than this crap.

8. Where's Waldo (NES) - I still have nightmares about this...The only game that ever made me cry. I got this game when I was about 8, and I played it for about 10 mins...burst into tears, and told mom that the game was terrible and I didnt want it. We then took it back to the rental store to get another....told em it was broken. It makes me sad to think that they made these games, and how many other kids cried once they played this horrendous piece of poop.

9. Wayne's World (SNES) - What the hell...this game is fucked up. Just play it and hold back the suicidal tendancies.

10. Back To The Future 3 (Genesis) - I'm a HUGE B.T.T.F. fan...and when I got this game I was thrilled. I cut it on, and layed back knowing Id be playing for hours. Then I got on the horse, and died, and died, and died, and died, and died, and died, and died, and died, and died, and died, and died, and died, and died....I eventually realized this must be a alternate future reality death simulator and then layed there for a while wallowing in self pity.

And we have my submission for the Worst Game....

Barney's Hide and Seek for Genesis

Now I know everyone is going to say...ITS A KIDS GAME, ITS SUPPOSED TO BE BAD!...hear me out. Your job is to find the kids, which means you will have to look all over for them...making it a relative challenge for the kiddies to play. But when you're looking for them...and there hidind behind a tree....HALF OF THERE BODY IS STICKING OUT! Only a kid with serious mental problems will have trouble finding the kid...but wait, theres more, while your brightly colored kid is standing there on screen "hiding" halfway behind the tree...digitized voice also calls out to you saying "HERE I AM!" or something else corny. Now...whens the last time you played hide and seek and the kid beind the tree TOLD you he was there? So next time you want to play Hide and Seek for ADD kids...put in Barney's Hide and Seed for Genesis

1. Low G Man (NES): This game is beyond crap, the graphics (even for the time) where VERY bad and the whole thing was unplayable because oh it's horrible controle system.

2. R-Type (C64): Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the R-Type games, it was one of the first shooter games I ever played next to 1945 on the NES. But it is the C64 tape version I hate just becuse when you loose all your lives you have to re-load the whole game! even if you're on the first level!

3. ODT (PSX): It's just another one of those god damn annoying 3rd person platformer games that the PSX seems to have so many of... bad story, graphics and controles make for a very bad game.

Xenosaga. I do NOT want to wander around a spaceship aimlessly for an hour because someone wants his dinner. Even worse, this was brought here instead of the incredible Tales of Destiny 2. Inexcusable.

The absolute worst game of all time is Kasumi Ninja for Atari Jaguar. What the hell were they thinking making that big pile of poop? Stupid voice with a fake Oriental accent, stupid characters, bland graphics, and zero playability.

(This is my first post on DP. Hiya! :P )

I don't think any of these have been mentioned:

Sneak 'n' Peak - Atari VCS
How lazy does one have to be to require a Hide 'n' Seek video game.

Sherlock Holmes - Sega CD
Possibly the most boring game to have possibly chosen to pack with a console. Oh the joy to have spent $250, only to come home to this pile along with a rehashed 'classic' compilation CD and some really poor music videos.

Tazmania - Genesis
Sure, the graphics are okay, but this is lacking everywhere else.

Dinowarz - NES
((yawn)) Oh the monotony. -_-

Contraforce - NES
What a letdown from the first 2 in the series. Interestingly enough, none of the games in the series have been all that great since.

Battletoads - SNES
Another major letdown from the original on the NES.

Platoon - NES
I've heard it mentioned that nearly every movie licensed video game is a pile of junk, and here is a good example to back that theory.

Any Home Alone, Bubsy, Boogerman or Simpsons game (excluding the arcade version). Any MTV or Nickelodeon licensed games.

95% of all GBC releases. and about 90% of all GBA releases. There are a few gems in the library, but I've found so many more in the monochrome gameboy library.

..

Before reading this thread, I didn't even realize that Home Improvement existed on the SNES!?! :hmm: Well, I suppose if they can make a game about dogfood, surely they can make a game about a sitcom. I can only imagine it playing like a Home Alone... bouncing through large houses with countless living room spaces and bouncing beds. Just for kicks, I'll look for the ROM later. LOL

..

Here are a few of the games that I am surprised to see mentioned:

Puzzle Fighter 2 - It's not my favorite, but it's certainly not that bad.

Congo Bongo - Maybe it's not as popular as Donkey Kong, but it's everywhere as fun. Actually, I find that Congo Bongo provides a slightly better challenge than Donkey Kong, which for me bumps it up a notch higher in replay value.

Kangaroo - This game is classic... how can you not like Kangaroo?!

DDCecil
02-26-2004, 08:02 AM
Here are few more I remember now...

Castlevania Adventure (GB) - A HUGE embarrasment to the Castlevania series. So slow, its as slow as Sonic the Edgehog (A little inside family joke, don't ask)

Star Voyager and Destination: Earthstar (NES)

Prehistorik Man (GB) - I love the SNES one (It's the Citizen Kane of Caveman platformers who aren't named Bonk), but the GB is really shoddy.

Ironsword: W&W2 (NES) - I'm going to get slack for this one, but it isn't that good (W&W is still a better game), though the designs for the Animal Kings are great!

Oh yeah, I'm one of the only people on earth who likes Kasumi Ninja :D

I forgot to mention in my earlier post, but Ninja (PSX) is the only game I ever died with tears of laughter. It was just that bad...

Space Ace (SNES) What a piece of crap! At the beginning of this game, you have run around some cliff dodging this guy's shots. I couldn't last longer than 3 shots without getting hit. I tried this for 20 minutes. After that, I wound up going back to Gamestop, the exact same day I bought it, and exchanging it for Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure (also SNES).

Where's Waldo (NES) Awful, awful, awful.

Alien Vs. Predator (SNES) Whoo hoo, another Final Fight rip off. It gets repetitive and easy halfway through the first level. The bosses have some difficulty, but everyone else you can kick into a corner and beat the living daylights out of them. I almost fell asleep playing this.

Simpsons Wrestling (PS1) Terrible. If not for Simpsons Skateboarding...

Simpsons Skateboarding (PS2) The worst Simpsons game ever. I'll spare you the Comic Book Guy's way of saying that.

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (SNES) Crappy fighting game.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Eye Of The Beholder (SNES) Boring!

8-Bit Master
02-26-2004, 10:16 AM
Dragon's Lair for the NES is a horrid piece of unplayable crap. The controls are some of the most sluggish I've ever seen.

Tag Team Wrestling and M.U.S.C.L.E. for the NES both suck butt too. Actually, almost all wrestling games on the NES suck.

Sonic Jam on the Tiger Game.com just might be the worst game of all time. The Game.com can't seem to handle any vertical or horizontal scrolling, so naturally a Sonic game was the worst possible choice for the system. Complete and utter trash.

Contraforce - NES
What a letdown from the first 2 in the series. Interestingly enough, none of the games in the series have been all that great since.

Contra 3??? Hard Corps? Must've forgotten those. ;)

Anyway, I gotta throw in Total Recall and Rise o' the Robots. How in the hell ROTR actually got ported to like 9 consoles I'll never know.

Xenosaga. I do NOT want to wander around a spaceship aimlessly for an hour because someone wants his dinner. Even worse, this was brought here instead of the incredible Tales of Destiny 2. Inexcusable.

Uhm? Tales of Destiny II? Unless ToD has a messed up numbering scheme like Final Fantasy used to, I have a copy of Tales of Destiny II sitting right in front of me.

It's a Playstation 1 game, right? It was released in the U.S. sometime in late 2000. It's not even really rare or anything.

Now, if you're talking about the PS1 remake of Tales of Phantasia, then that's a different story.

The absolute worst turds of games I can think of are:

(2600) Swordquest = all of them
(NES) Taboo: The Sixth Sense

I honestly can't think of any that are worse than those. Most games have some kind of merit to them. Most games actually at least have some kind of gameplay to them. The ones I list don't.

You can at least play many of the games listed in this thread and enjoy them in some way. For example, (NES) Star Voyager is insanely bad, but at least some level of amusement can be gained from playing it. Not so with the Swordquest games or Taboo.

When you go to have your eyes examined, the optometrists now have you sit and look into something and press a button for when a light appears. Even that is more fun of a game than any of the Swordquest games or Taboo.

Hatris. Freakin' Hatris. How I loathe that game...thank goodness no one else remembers it, for truly the memories of Hatris are a heavy burden to bear.

It's Tetris. With hats. And without any of the play mechanics or fun. And with bad graphics. Oh, wait, I'm being unfair...it *does* have that whole "falling stuff must be arranged" thing in common with Tetris. Also, same creator. You know, alledgedly.

I was trying to get a screenshot of Hatris last night. I was not entirely surprised to find that I had deleted what was likely a mere 50 kb ROM.

The Game Cube has some real duffers, but the worst has to be Universal Studios Theme Parks Adventure.

Hugo on PSX is pretty bad.

Airlock, Forest, Strawberry Shortcake, Dragster, Jedi Arena, Reactor, Cosmic Commuter, Tormac the Babarian, plus many more on VCS

Any Football game on any system, any Baseball game on any system, any Basketball game on any system.

All those awful 80s C-64 UK made games from companies like Ocean, Elite, Domark, Hewson, UPTG, Grandslam, Martech.......

Mythicon Games for the Atari 2600.........all were poop

Captain Novilin for the Snes......because a health food game is fun to play... LOL .

Fight for Life for the Jaguar......I love the into that isnt complete!!!

The worst game I can think of.......Extreme Sports with the Berstein Bears for the Game Boy Color...this is why

1.its supposed to be a kids game? Its crappy hard
2. Its got crappy controls....and the tracks are extra long.....
3. The graphics look like they could have been done on the Vic 20
4. Ok, you are the Berstein Bears, and you get to go.......try to control a bike with no control with the same background over and over and over....no thanks

I would rather as a child play with a bag of rocks then cry playing this pile of poop.

I saw only one mention of Taboo: The Sixth Sense. I had a friend that got that game as a gift from his mom, and needless to say, who the hell would spend 40 dollars on this?

i have not seen Mortal Kombat on the Sega CD mentioned yet. This game was highly anticipated, but when it came out there were NO improvements on the Genny version, and the load times were a joke. In the endurance matches, there was nearly a 20 second wait between opponents in the middle of the match. Same thing happened during the match with Goro.

another letdown was Strider Returns on the Genesis. The first one was a classic, and in the sequel, everything that was fun about the original was killed. The action was slooooooow, and the graphics and sound were dull. and the master kidnapped your girlfriend.... x_x

Donkey Kong on Intellivision - painful to play, literally

Space Harrier for Sega Master System. Don't get me wrong, I *loved* the arcade version, and I played the Game Boy Advance version, and it was pretty cool. But the SMS version was utter crap. The framerate was really slow, the graphics were blocky and chunky, and voice sampling using the SMS' hardware? Blech. You cannot pay me to play this game again.

Well, you can, but I won't like it.

Castlevania Adventure(Gameboy) What a pile of crap! This was the first Castlevania game I ever played, so it almost ended up making me avoid playing the whole series! But really, this game is just awful. Sluggish controls/player movement, Boring bosses, Only 3 stages! The only thing I liked about this game was the music for the first level.

OffWorld Interceptor Extreme(Saturn) Take Twisted Metal 2, then remove the free roaming gameplay, cool vehicles/weapons/levels, challenge, music and good controls. Then you have a pretty good idea of what this is like. All you do in the game is race straight forward(turning ever so slightly), fighting a tight timer and crappy enemy AI. Then you fight a huge boss, who just sits there and lets you blow him away... And I won't even mention the cut-scenes!

Cyberia(Saturn) I got it off Ebay for $1.80(shipping included) so I guess I shouldn't complain. It's just this game is a complete waste of time to play, the last few levels are fun, but by then I had already had enough of the crappy controls/stupid puzzles.

SuperMan 64(Nintendo 64) Do I really need to say anything about it?

Anyone who plays one of those will be guaranteed to cry for hours after words, and who said pot was the only way to get stoned. And Nes Action 52, and Cheetahmen II, A E programmed the corrupted rom into their carts with c II and the game is literally unfinishable, and they are just painful to look at. Those are undoubtedly the worst games of all time.

Wow, someone's not a sports fan! I don't care for basketball myself but I'm not about to say no basketball game has risen above mediocrity. Madden has always gotten great scores and I love MVP Baseball so I must totally disagree with this obviously biased opinion.

With that said, a few games I've always thought were quite poor:

Batman Forever (SNES)
Triple Play 2002 (XBox) which I got for $2...and wasn't worth it.
Bubsy 3D (PS1)
E.T. (2600)--Not the worst by any means but not good, either.
World Series Baseball 2K1 (Dreamcast)--Whose bright idea was it to not let players have control of the players during defense?

here is my personal hate list:

KAO the Kangaroo for Dreamcast
ALF for the SMS
Sports pad Football for the SMS
E.T. For Atari 2600
Buck Rogers for Colecovision
Yu-Gi-Oh for Gamecube
Diablo for PSX
DragonHeart: Fire and Steel PSX

That's about all the games i really hate... well the ones in my collection i guess 8 out of 545 isn't to bad. Funny thing, even though i hate them i'll never part with them because i'm a big believer that if some one doesn't hold on to the shitty title, people will forget what it takes to really make a asshat of a game! :D

Worst games of all-time? Here's my list.

Donkey Konga (Gamecube)
Britney's Dance Beat (PS2)
DDR series (PS2)
Shaq Fu (Super NES)
American Idol (PS2, XBox, Game Boy Advanced)
Casino Mogul (PC)
Daytrader (PC)

The 4 I mentioned are NOT videogames. Young kids think that they are videogames, but they're not.

My veiw on bad games are games that are shows/movies to games and games that have a bad title and no plot. That pretty much summarizes an essay I would've wrote. 8-)
