View Full Version : I've pretty much decided that PC/PH/GH games don't bother me anymore...

I don't know, but magically today, I just officially decided it didn't look so bad on my shelf. I took them off, then I realized I missed having some Greatest Hits titles on there.
Guess I can say I'm not so much OCD anymore...
Has anybody else done this before?

I'm not nearly as anal about it as I used to be. For me it boils down to not wanting to locate a non-GH version of a game that's readily available in GH form. One thing that still bugs the piss out of me, however, is when you buy a non-GH game used and they give you a GH disc. I'm pretty laid-back, but I always ask if they have a non-GH disc instead. Something about symmetry and knowing that someone else out there is in the exact opposite predicament as myself. I'm also picky about the vice-versa situation.
To quote a Mr. T Experience song:
"I've got problems, I'm aware of 'em, I'll take care of 'em, never you mind"

Yeah, I hate it when they do that. I always ask for the to match the disk and case. They do for me now though. Most of the time. ;)

Actually, I am now worse, thanks to the 360. I don't really mind buying cube/xbox reprints, but HOLY HELL THE 360 ONES ARE UGLY AS SHIT. I mean really now, a big nasty grey border around the boxart? THe xbox ones weren't so bad...alternate boxarts, silver case, it was semi-acceptable. The cube ones WERE ugly, but they were much more likely to give you a nice bonus, like say, Pacman Vs! But man, these 360 ones are ass-ugly and I've already spend a lot of time this month looking around town for Non-Platinum copies of a couple games. Hell, Saint's Row is somehow less shiny in it's platinum version, heh.
Something that I learned in this process...some TRU stores are a good source for non-platinum games, as they tend to not sell many M-rated games. That's where I got my Dead Rising non-platinum, and for 20 bucks too!

You can't find many people that can go and quote a Mr. T Experience song and probably will also find few who will recognize it.
On the side of gh, if I have an option I'll get the regular version but otherwise I don't care

I'm... different.
I own Tekken 2, 3, and 5 in Greatest Hits form. So now I want to buy Tekken 1, 4 and Tag Tournament in GH just so the set is complete. XD
I'm WEIRD, haha!
I'll only buy a GH version if the game is different, like the PS2 version of Ultimate Alliance.

GH games are fine, but i keep them at the tail end of a system.

I love Mr T Experience, a friend of mine, my girlfriend and I found about 6 of there CD's used at FYE a couple weeks ago and between the 3 of us we bought them all. They had a bunch of Screeching Weasel we got too!
Now on subject, GH/PH/PC are not always so bad but I would rather do without them especially when they stick stuff on the front art.

Greatest Hits packaging (any console) = FAIL.

If I have any GH/PH/PC Titles I always put them together instead of scattering them through the ones that aren't GH/PH/PC Versions.

As a person who actively collects all variants for the PlayStation, I must say GH type stuff never bothered me. In fact, it's a helpful conversation starter, especially in retail. People will ask me what it means, and after explanation, it helps the new comers or those non-gamers buying for gamers have a lead on what's hot without having their hands held throughout the store.
As for the actual visual appearance, the one only GH type packaging that ever really irked me was the Game Cube's bright yellow. Should have been purple to match the logo.
I am however, in the minority and LOVE the 360 GH packaging. I like how the entire artwork is framed, and I love the subtleness of the grey box rather than the bright red / yellow / etc of older systems. But then that's just me. I also like how the new GH / PH's are all the same art, just different banner (99% of the time, DBZ + MC2 not included). The PSone GHs were all over the place with how the disc art should be black / whited.

For the most part, they've never bothered me. There are a few exceptions, though:
-When a used game has a GH case and a non-GH disc, and vice-versa.
-When the GH version has something removed from the game (with the exception of bugs, of course)
-When the cover art is changed for the GH version (for example, with Sly Cooper for PS2)
The longer I stay involved in videogames, the less particular I become. A year or so ago, there was no way in hell that I'd ever buy a used disc if it even had HINT of a minor scuff on it. Now, depending on the rarity of the game (Klonoa-Lunatea's Veil, for instance) I concede and buy it with a few light scuffs on it. I never did mind Greatest Hits packages......maybe because the N64 ones blended well with the regular ones, and that was the system that I was most involved with.

I don't mind GH/PC/PH if they're really cheap.

I mainly try to get original cases, but I don't mind on N64, SNES, or Xbox. I also like it when some games have slightly different boxart for the Greatest Hits release (Some aren't good, like Sly Cooper, and some are better like DOA3)

Yeah, DOA 3 has kinda shitty covers either way, but the playinum is better if only for being female.

Off the top of my head, there are actually a couple greatest hits I actually prefer over the originals, Devil May Cry 3 and God of War. There were so many extras packed in those that the originals didn't have.

I'm still the same. I was so psyched to find a used Devil May Cry 3 SE that came from the boxset sold separately, as it has a black label rather than the red GH one. I only own one GH, that being VF4 Evo because it was never available in regular form, and even for that I made my own black label to cover the red.

It never bothered me until I read that it irritated so many people. I thought about it and then it bugged me a little... so I avoided them for a while- but now, I don't think it really matters. Unless I find out that something is removed from the game.
