I don't know if anybody else brought this up before, but does anybody have games that they loved but they never finished? Or games you played once but never went back even though they were great games?
I only ask that because between grad school and my freelance writing, I haven't touched Dark Cloud 2, Shenmue 2, or Def Jam Vendetta in over a week, and they're all great games that deserve more attention than I can give them right now. Also, there's some NES and Genesis stuff I acquired recently that's just sitting here unplayed under the desk.
Well, here's to summer... :)

After I lost twice from the last boss in Final Fantasy 8 I never bothered to try it again, thus never finishing it.
At first I planned to try it some more, but over time I lost interest.

OK, I'm gonna go through my collection, and these are the games I've had for YEARS and STILL haven't beaten:
NES:
Metal Gear!! Dammit! I didn't own it back in the day, but my NES-playing buddy and I couldn't beat the Metal Gear. I have it again now, so we'll see...
Castlevania! @#$! you Dracula! Damn you to HELL!!
Genesis:
Revenge of Shinobi! That frickin' maze at the end...never beat it! That leads me to:
Shinobi III
Granada--can blast my way to the end, but to no avail
Thunder Force II grrrrr.... >:( But I HAVE beaten TFIII!
Phantasy Star II--yeah, right
Alien 3
Gunstar Heroes--believe it or not
Chakan--definitely not a favorite around here
X-Men--didn't know you had to RESET the bloody system...
SNES:
Contra 3! sheesh :beaten:
Starfox?? Yep
Zelda 3!!! :embarrassed: (hides head in shame) I know I know!! Unbelievable, but true! Couldn't defeat the end baddie!
Arcade:
Samurai Shodown! Damn you! >.<

Animal Crossing ;)
Panzer Dragoon Saga (Boy, this is getting mentioned a lot, did someone say boring?)
Grand theft auto 3
Star Ocean (don't remember which one, on the PS1)
Super Mario sunshine (Camera angles made it unplayable for me, so not sure if it counts as a great game IMO)
Zelda OOT - Water dungeon, water goes up, water goes down, water goes up, water goes... Wait, isn't this the entrance AGAIN?! FUCK THIS.
I'm sure the list goes on and on

Panzer Dragoon - only had it a while, and I like it quite a bit, but I keep getting my butt kicked in the level where you're flying over the forest. Either it's really hard or I just suck.
Tales of Destiny 2 - put it down for a while, now I can't remember what to do. Plus things in the Volt Temple keep beating me up, and I can't find a good place to levelbuild.
Guardian's Crusade - I got a kick out of this one (especially the town of Cyclops' that live on furry fish), but I stopped playing for some reason and am hopelessly lost Story of my life.
Grandia II - Why haven't I played this in such a long time? Dang, I gotta go play it some more.

Zelda OoT - It was a borrowed cart and had to be rwturned, so I never finished it, But now I have my own and as soon as I beat Zelda WW it's going down!

Well, I never beat a lot of games I love, but I'll specifically mention:
Phantasy Star II, I got to the end boss but kept dying, and since it takes like 15 minutes to walk from the last save point to where the boss is, I eventually gave up in frustration.
Oh, and I could never beat Tyson in Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, even with the Game genie.

Well, I really like video games, and have since the early '80s. But, I also have never been good at them. I have probably over 1500 games, and have beaten maybe 5 or 10 of them ever. Seriously. Why? i couldn't possibly be THAT bad, right? Well some is poor game skill, but alot is lack of time/and or interest. I have never enjoyed RPGs, which is good, because they are long, so i don't have to bother with them. but even "short" games are usually too long to hold my interest. For me, games should have as little story as possible. Story is great.....in books and films. Leave the stories there, and give me games with fun/good game mechanics, no lame plot necessary. :)

I'm right with you, except I am good at games :P
All that stories do is get in the way of the game. Any time spent on anything that isn't gameplay is time wasted. I don't care if the story in a game is the best story the world has ever seen in any kind of media - it is absolutely worthless.
Heck, I dislike the whole idea of "beating" games. There's no reason a game should have an ending. The game should end when you can no longer do what it is asking you to do. If a game needs to dangle an ending in front of you to drive you to play, then the game isn't good enough. The only game I've ever been truly compelled to "beat" was 5200 Super Cobra with the standard 5200 controllers. Of course it just loops endlessly, but I wanted to challenge myself with everything the game had to offer. And maybe Puzzle Bobble, as I just wanted to play more levels.
Of games that I have liked enough to want to play a bit farther, but haven't for some reason or another...
Half-Life: Only FPS I've liked, bought it the day it came out. Played until the conveyor belts, then was so disgusted by the sight of conveyor belts in the game that I quit and never played it again.
Jet Set Radio Future: Gave it a good marathon session one day, then stopped and said I'd pick it up again soon. That was last spring and I haven't played it since.

Steel Battalion!
I know, i know....Here i pour 250 bucks into a game and i barley ever play it. But it isnt the kind of game you can just sit down if you have an extra 15 minutes to kill. Its a commitment, you need an hour and a half, you need to clear the crap off of your couch, and get into a mode of seriousness.
Thus, I have the game but barley ever touch it. I am only on level 4 and I have had it for a month. Kinda sad, but I do love it. It is the collest thing ever, to bad I dont have the free time i need to play it. Anyways, rock on!

Barley is a type of grain.
Barely is the word you are referring to :)

Maybe its just me, I have been buying the games at an alarming rate but once I start to play them, I stop and try something else. I haven't beaten a game all the way through since Medal of Honor on PS2.
Started:
PSO GC
GTA Vice
Jedi Outcast Xbox
Morrowind Xbox
Splintercell Xbox
Metroid GC
However, the only game I seem to play religously is Everquest On PC. Why is that?

I'll get him surrounded and I am just about to launch my final attack when I hear"blip..blip..blip" Your time has run out the Mongol hordes have takin control over china! I am like WTF!
Panzer Dragoon Saga(Saturn) Like everyone else I have it looking all shiny and mint on my shelf but I haven't gotten around to give it a good go :-D

I'm at the part where I simply have to walk up the path to face the final boss. I just haven't gotten around to do it for some years now.
