Are Mega Drive games compatable with a US Genesis? I have one listed on Ebay now that I tested on my Nomad and it worked fine but it just hit me that it may not work on a Genesis. I'd like to clear this up bedore I get questions or bids.

Many games released after mid-92 won't work due to regional lockout beginning then. All games before will work, many after as well. With a converter or mod you can go around the problem. On GameFAQs there is a list with games locked out. You can also see it on Guardiana.

If it is from japan you also have the problem of the slot on the genesis not being large enough due to the different size of the cartridge

If you can't get a mod, get a Game Genie. They're cheap and region unlock codes are available online. It at least works with Sailor Moon and Pulseman. :)

It's the "Made in the UK" version of the Incredible Hulk...the same size and shape as most other genesis games. The question is though...If a game works on my Nomad does that mean it'll definatly work on a Genesis too? I'm really not as familiar with Sega stuff.

Yes, it will work on your Genesis too. The Nomad is a portable Genesis, not a portable Mega Drive.

I used to think that the only Mega Drive was the one for the Japan region (since I only bought Japanese Mega Drive games). Only later did I realized that there was another Mega Drive for the EU region.

USA Genesis - (USA)
Cartridge Slot: Thin
Reigion: USA
Frequency: 60Hz

Japanese Mega Drive - (JPN)
Cartridge Slot: Wide
Region: JPN
Frequency: 60Hz

European Mega Drive - (EUR)
Cartridge Slot: Thin
Region: USA
Frequency: 50Hz

Some games will work without problem but most will have region coding. Many EUR Mega Drive games need to be booted in 50Hz (PAL) and then switched to 60Hz for proper play on a USA system.

Without a doubt the best way to play Genesis / Mega Drive is with a USA/JPN and 60Hz/50Hz modded Genesis with a widened cartridge slot. It will allow the play of everything you throw at it. I just finished modding a model 1 Genesis and will have it up for sale in my Buying and Selling thread tonight. If anyone is interested please PM me.

I've taken to calling th European system the "Megadrive" since that seems to be what most Europeans call it anyway and it helps differentiate it from the Japanese Mega Drive.

Though...I suppose it doesn't actually help very much if I'm the only one that uses that distinction consciously and no one else knows I'm using it that way.
