View Full Version : PS2: iLink compatible games? Network adapter LANs?

Now that the new PS2 rev is coming without the iLink/IEEE1394/Firewire port, I'm wondering--what games are compatible with the PS2 iLink feature? I'm guessing there won't be many (if any) more. Here's what I think so far:
Armored Core 2
Armored Core 3
ATV Off Road Fury 2
Gran Turismo 3
Timesplitters 2
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3
Unreal Tournament
I've played Unreal Tournament with the cable, and the (non-Sony-brand) cable came in a box proclaiming its compatibility with Armored Core 2 and Gran Turismo 3 (as well as UT), so I'm pretty sure about those ones, too. I haven't verified AC3 or TS2. Can someone tell me if those two really are iLink-compatible? And are there other iLink compatible games not on that short list?
Also, I am wondering which games allow you to hook up MORE than two machines. I've heard that GT3 allows you to connect up to three machines if you have a Firewire hub (which I've also heard will require you to get 4-pin to 6-pin IEEE1394 cables rather than the 4-pin to 4-pin iLink cables). Is this correct, and are there other games that allow 3+ machines to be hooked together to make a mini-LAN like that?
Also, what's the deal with connecting multiple machines directly (not over the phone) using the network adapter? Is there a deal?

Well I'm dancin' with myself... :band:
So I found this (http://www.allcoolgames.com/unreal_tournament.htm) about PS2 Unreal Tournament on teh internet:
4 Player iLink
Oh! So that's why Infogrames mentions the ability to hook up "3 and 4 consoles". But wait, the game only allows two players using two consoles hooked up through an iLink cable, what do I do?
First you'll need , at least, a 4 point fire-wire hub (you can buy these at any computer part store).
Secondly, you'll need three other friends their iLink cables and (of course) their playstations.
Now, hook them all together using you iLink cable and your Fire-wire hub.
Lastly you'll need the Cheat Code.
Start a 2-person multiplayer game.
Press Start to Pause the Game.
Enter the following code:
LEFT, CIRCLE, LEFT, RIGHT, SQUARE, RIGHT.
Your screen will say "Waiting For Other Players".
The other three players should hit the start button and join in.
Unfortunately, I'm short one TV, one copy of UT, one firewire hub, two PS2s and three 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cables that I would need to verify this. Anybody know if this is true or not?

At one time I wanted to link every game I could find so I started spending on extra stuff to do this..I can get crazy and costly.
Right now,
I link two Ps2's up with Gran Turismo 3..It's awesome useing the steering wheels..
I own 3 Ps2's and 3 copies of the game.."Now",,,I had bought a 4th copy(greatest hits)..but I sold it....
I wanted to do a 4 way link up...I still do..but it's not happening anytime soon.
I even bought 4 Logitech Force Feedback steering wheels to use during a 4 way link up..I never got around to doing this..But I heard it's awesome..
I could use them for a 4 man split screen game..(I hate split screen though)
I had bought a forth Ps2..for this 4 man link then sold it...
I loaned out my 3rd Ps2..So I just use the two for link-up..
Since I hardly have a 3rd person around to play anymore..So It's not worth it.
It's too costly and I was going nuts to do all this....
I never got around to buy the hub or the additional link cables..But I have the info somewhere..
"PS" link-Up I still do too....one game I still link up is Formula 1.
I was really into this link-up stuff...I still am but the human opponents are hard to come by..and the time to do it..
I'm gonna look for some info on this..
The next game I'm going to link up is Castle Wolfenstien(Xbox).
I got the systems..I need the games and the human opponent..or maybe Brute Force.
In other words my friends suck..

Some info I found while searching around..
I wish I could find a Ps2 list of linkable games..
I asked if a list existed at several other(gamefaqs) sites and I got no responce.

I did a serch on Ebay...for the Hub that I would need..I checked it out once at Best buy and the whole thing was costly.
I know you need to use 6-pin to 4-pin cables to each Ps2..hooked up to the hub..when linking more then 2 Ps2's up.

Here's the reply from Sony..
Hello Daryll,
Thank you for writing us.
Unfortunately, we do not have a complete list of i.LINK compatible PlayStation 2 format software
titles at this time. Currently any software that will allow you to use the i.LINK cable on the
PlayStation 2 console must be compatible and designed to recognize the i.LINK port.
We would recommend that you check out our "Games" page, as well as some other third-party* gaming
sites, for game reviews. You can perform specific searches by genre, as well as research expected
release dates and other gaming-related information:

I just want to link 3 PS2s with 3 copies of Gran Turismo 3.
I really, really, really want to try that Frearri F355 panoramic view.
Anyone tried that?

Dude, that is awesome. It's too bad it's hard to find human opponents sometimes (I know what you mean). I think it's way cooler to have your three opponents being buddies in the room with you rather than your buddies (or strangers) playing from remote locations. I will get this setup together, too, one day, when PS2 systems cost under $50.
And Mr. NEStalgia, yeah, the PS2 list is pretty pathetic, I agree. And if you take out all of the racing games, the Playstation list isn't all that much better. Well, there's always the Xbox! (Actually, I have no idea how many Xbox games are linkable/LANable. And it's going to be quite a while before I could afford to pick up three "extra" Xboxes...)
