All i have to say is this game is amazing. I just got my copy on Friday and its great. Although I haven't been able to try out the online because the servers haven't been up yet the single player is great. Fast, loud, and amazing graphics which is all I need.

I have put 10 hrs. into this game now and I am impressed. The game looks great, the soundtrack is excellent, and the online and offline play is very fun and very fast. It is not a pain in the ass to drive back to a race to start it over, simply because its fun to drive around the city.

My biggest complaint so far is the fact that you cannot (unless I am missing something) cancel out of a race once it is started. If you really screw up, you still have to make your way to the finish line to get the 8th place loss so you can leave the race.

I think the way to cancel out of a race is to just idle and do nothing for a few seconds and then the race ends automatically.

Although I wouldn't say that this game sucks, seeing as I haven't played it, I want to bring forth some complaints that I have about the game.

-First off, no splitscreen multiplayer whatsoever. WTF is up with this? Every single freaking Burnout before this one had at least 2 player split screen and party play up to 8 players. There is nothing more fun than playing a 2 player race on the same system. Instead, they take it out, thinking that online is more important. Well, sure, online is great, but I view it as an extension of the game, rather than a mode that you -have- to include. And don't go complaining to me in the next 2-3 years once the online servers shut down for this game, making all of the new modes and crap useless. You know how EA is with online servers. EA and Criterion really dropped the ball by not including split screen, because I have a twin brother who always likes to play 2 players with me on video games. Criterion Games really lost my respect when they cockily said that they didn't need split screen in the game because they wanted "no loading times". If Halo 3 can have split screen, then I think Burnout can, too. I think that Criterion was just lazy and didn't want to put that into the game.

-Another thing, to even play online, you have to have a hard drive. I mean, this is just stupid, as some people, like me, got the Arcade system for Christmas because it was a good value due to it not having a hard drive. I plan on getting one later once they drop in price, since they are horribly overpriced. I thought that almost every Xbox 360 game was developed with the notion that not everyone had a hard drive? Oh, another thing, this is a bit off topic, but why hasn't ANYONE mentioned that Halo 3 REQUIRES the hard drive to even play?! I looked on the back of the box at a store and it said "optimized for hard drive" and "requires hard drive". You would think that MS would of put it on the front to let XB360 Arcade owners know that they need a hard drive to play this. But no, they didn't. Not even press reviews mentioned the fact that it requires a hard drive. *sigh* :(

Anyways, that's the end of my rant, lol. I do plan on getting a hard drive soon, but I refuse to pay $100 dollars for a 20 GB hard drive when I can find a 250 GB hard drive for the same price for a computer.

thats correct, just stop driving and it will stop the race or whatever event you're in.

I'm going to revise my vote.

The demo really doesn't do the full game justice.

another way to quit an event quickly is to go into "Showtime" mode.

This thread is like a sociological study in many ways. Why is it that for so many people, if they hate something, they MUST make it that others hate it too? I never got that. And if someone likes it, they're either "bought off" (if they're a pro reviewer) or a "fanboi" if they're not.

It's weird how the beginning of the thread was all kinds of heated "proof" of how the game was bad. Referring to "editorials" on web sites like Ars as if that somehow is any more valid than EGM or GP - its ALL opinion - just because the opinion matches yours doesnt make it more valid...

Now the thread has flipped (now that people are actually playing the real game) and more and more folks are saying they like it.

For any game there are going to be people that like it and people that dont like it. When you reach the point where the opposite opinion really bothers you (and you can tell early, that the people hating it were annoyed by those who didnt), you're too emotionally invested. Who cares if EA cranks out sequels every year? Who cares if devs seem "pompous"? EA is a company. If you hate them dont buy their products. Devs are people. If you dont KNOW them personally, dont make personality judgements on them. Would you want people judging your character by your posts?

For any franchise game there are always TONS of releases. If you dont like the direction they go with one, it isnt the end of the world. There are PLENTY of other iterations of every series to keep you busy if the devs "ruin" the franchise for you.

Its similar to music when a band tries a new direction and people REVOLT on them as if the old stuff somehow no longer exists and as if the band OWED you more of the same. If you dont like the new iteration, ignore it and enjoy the old or find something different.

this game is like a visual narcotic... I haven't been able to put it down since I got it...great time, pure fun on and offline.. the one thing I need more practice on is the racing, I always seem to get lost, even when I follow the street sign tips like I am supposed to.

Oh no, don't get us wrong, it's still bad. Too many flaws to make this a classic Burnout title. All this game is, is a pretty sandbox racer, with an occasional crash to plaster the "Burnout" title on the box.

You can "like" a bad game, that doesn't make it a great game.

I propose a new forum rule. If you don't have anything nice to say about a game, don't say anything at all. There will only be good reviews and opinions from here on out. This should make the site much more pleasing to those who like shitty games.

.

All games require the Hard Drive to play online. That's not a complaint against Burnout. And you didn't get a good value with the arcade system because you bought a gimped piece of hardware. You could have got the hard drive cheaper if you bought it with the pro bundle.

This game definately isn't amazing...but for a car game it's actually pretty good. The fact that it's free-roaming and 60 fps makes it a blast to play.

alright i am sick and freakin tired of ea and their shit, i agree with the pumping out of the sequals every year to 6 months, one thing i am super tired of.... this whole world roaming system thing! what the hell? it was innovative for oh about one game and then just got hella lame, its one super good way to ruin a game. i am sick and fucking tired of how ea scoops up all the good stuff and tried to make something THEY think is "cool" out of it.

one thing i will always hate about EA games especially in facing games is how you can get passed up so easily and never catch up or if you have the superior car the computer cars wont ever fall behind, you could have a bazillion horse power on your car and the computer have 1hp on each but theyre still right on your ass bumpin into you and tryin to screw you up i freakin HATE that.

oh and i voted this game sucks

What are you talking about? Im not a big fan of racers or the burnout franchise but i had a blast screaming down the streets and smashing into everything and watching the body panels crush and the windows slowly explode! This might be my first car game ive ever buy... Crashing, jumping, flipping, drifting, amazing graphics..what more do you want?

I dont mean to be rude. but do you need to upload a 1.5 megabyte signature image? Not everybody has high speed internet....

Dude, I have like 7 Xbox 360 games, and I can play them all online without the hard drive, and with the memory card included. (Smackdown vs Raw 2008, Guitar Hero III, etc.) Look, not everyone has $350 to plunk down on the Premium system, and my parents definitely didn't have that kind of money. I just got the system to play games..if I want to do more with it, I can get the hard drive later. And my system isn't "gimped" because I actuallly wanted my parents to not go flat broke by buying the premium system. Sure, I would definitely say get the Premium system over the Arcade, if I (or my parents) had enough money to do so.

Well, I've put about 2 hours into the game so far, and I'm still not impressed.

The ONLY thing I find fun about the game is the Road Rage mode. That's it.

They've turned Burnout into a boring collect fest (find the auto repairs, junkyards, parking lots, jumps, billboards, events etc etc.). I still hate it when you lose a race you can't just start over. I also don't like the fact that once you upgrade your license, they allow you to replay the events you've already beaten to move on. I realize the race may be harder, but it really still seems kind of lazy.

Overall, I'm just sorely disappointed...I was thinking I may have been overly harsh after just playing the demo, and was willing to give the game a chance. I'm sad to find out that my initial impressions were right on.
