Is there a way to save in these games without dying?
I remember reading somewhere that you should hold the reset button on the console to not loose data or something, but pressing reset only results in resetting the console and couldn't be it...

Do you know how to do it??

You save first, then hold reset while powering off.

After saving your progress, you are supposed to hold in the RESET button and then push the POWER button (at the same time) to turn off the console without losing your saved game. In theory, this is supposed to work, and most of the time it does.

Also, make sure your internal battery in the cartridge is not dead.

Hes talking about the saving without dying thing, the only way to save your progress normally is to die. But there is something about pressing a button on controller two that will bring up the save screen without dying, I just cant recall what it is.

To save at any time:

Press start on controller 1.

Then press up and A with controller 2.

This will take you to the save menu (the same menu you get when you die).

Thanks! It worked. It's good to know if you want to keep the zeros at the file selection screen :)

But why did they make it so difficult to save? Why not make it so that you press start and then UP + A or Select or something on P1 instead of using the P2 controller?

wow, how did I never know about that? that's awesome. can you continue playing after you save, then, or do you have start at home base again?

I've never held reset while turning the system off, and all of my battery backed saves have worked and still work fine.

the up and a trick works on zelda zelda 2 metroid smb2 and kid icarus.

just a note on zelda one it doesn't count as a death but on zelda 2 it does.

oh and a fun trick in smb2 go into a door and imediately go to the subscreen and do up and A for a big surprise.

In Zelda II. In Legend of Zelda, it counts as a death.

Thought I'd throw this in for those of you that have the Classic NES version of the first Zelda on the GBA: you can save your game at any time by pressing select + up on the control pad at the same time. A menu will open up and you can choose to save the game, continue, or quit.

(I don't own the Classic NES Series version of Zelda II so I don't know if you can do the same thing there.)
