When I was younger, a friend of mine had a Sega Genesis, but his parents would only let him buy Christian games. As a result, they had spent about $150 on a game system .. for him to play ONE game. And it was bad. Really bad. But, I collect humorously bad games, especially unlicensed/pirate ones. So, I recently started to investigate just what this one was.

I will relate what I can recall from memory, though, after this much time, some of it is bound to be a bit wrong.. but, I have a great memory for ancient video games, and other useless information. So, here goes. :)

- It was a platformer.
- "Greensleeves" was looping over and over.
- The first level had a lot of white. I recall it looked like the ruins of ancient Rome, or something to that effect. I remember pillars, perhaps broken ones.
- I recall my character wearing a white outfit. Perhaps a robe of some sort.
- I remember being able to jump, and having to get over gaps.
- I don't remember any attacks or special movies of any sort, except for jumping.
- I asked my friend what the plot was. All he could tell me was something to the effect of, "You play as God, and Jesus has been kidnapped. So, you have to rescue him."

It's strikingly similar to the game "Jesus and the Temple", one of 3 god-awful (pun intended) games in KING OF KINGS for the NES. That game is also a platformer. Jesus is missing, and you have to rescue him. You play as some biblical character in a brown outfit, you can jump, but not attack. You avoid a lot of, ironically, "God's creatures" which are for some reason trying to kill you. Greensleeves loops endlessly. But, the levels are not Rome-like or white, they are mostly forests and waterfalls. Way too many waterfalls. The game was made by Wisdom Tree, who made nothing but Christian games after changing their name from "Color Dreams" (most of you prob'ly know that though.) I suspect the same company made the Mystery Christian Genesis Game.

Can anyone help me pinpoint just what on earth this game is? ..

Thanks!

Maybe this will jar your memory:

There weren't very many Wisdom Tree titles to begin with, and even less were released on the Genesis, so if that's what you played, it should be on that page. I'm sure you could download all those games and an emu and try them out on your PC.

Hmm.

Just four Wisdom Tree games for the Genesis, the one that sounds closest to your description is Bible Adventures. Exodus and Joshua could best be described as "Boulder Dash meets Christianity" and Spiritual Warfare is kind of an RPG, no jumping that I can recall.

The list:
Bible Adventures (by Wisdom Tree, for Genesis)
Exodus (by Wisdom Tree, for Genesis)
Joshua and the Battle of Jericho (by Wisdom Tree, for Genesis)
Spiritual Warfare (by Wisdom Tree, for Genesis)

Does this look anything like the game you remember?

Unfortunately, I'm sure that's not it. I downloaded and played all 3 games in Bible Adventures yesterday, and it's definitely not what I remembered. And no "greensleeves" playing constantly. ;) Maybe my friend had a prototype version of a game Wisdom Tree never publically released? .. Doubtful, but possible ..

I checked out every Wisdom game listed on that page, they are definitely not it. I could make a mock-up screenshot of what I recall from the game, if it would help anyone to remember something..

Damn, I have no idea. The only game I can think of that uses Greensleeves is the original King's Quest.

Perhaps another, more obscure Christian company made platform games? I know there are several others making PC crap, but console?

The only game I can think of that uses Greensleeves is the original King's Quest.

Actually it was Kings Quest II that used Greensleeves, not the original.

What system was King's Quest 2 for? I presume it's not the Genesis..

.. BTW, what other companies made Christian games, specifically for the Genesis? Maybe I *was* playing King of Kings back then, but my memory's just fuzzy and I imagine it looking a lot different. But I don't think that's the case. I don't remember needing to answer Bible questions for health in that game, either! ..

I sent Wisdom Tree an e-mail asking them what they knew about it, but I am unsure if they're still in business. The e-mail hasn't bounced, so that's a good sign..
