YES!

My store just recieved the most BIZARRE thing I've ever seen..

The Gen X Dual Station!

It plays NES AND Sega Genesis games!

Modeled after the Model 3 Sega Genesis...comes with two 6 button controllers..AV Cable...and PSU...

There is a God! *cries* I WANT IT!!! I've dreamed of the day to when they would make a GENESIS Clone! :D

Sure it maybe not as accurate as the real thing, but as a lover of the Genesis..I gotta have it!

Weird. But cool actually. I've seen other clones, I'll post some pics soon.

I just came across these online the other day, but I figured they were old news. They seem to go for about $50. Hoping somebody picks one up and reviews it before I make a purchase

whoa badass i wonder what the cloned genesis hardware entails, my guess would be full genesis 3 boards probably making it incompatible with the add-ons but thats just a guess i cant wait until someone pops one open and posts some pics ;) ;) *hint hint*

That is one odd duck. Why does it play NES (8Bit) and Genesis (16Bit) games. Why not NES and SMS or Genesis and SNES games? Odd!

Because Genesis and NES are what's easily and cheaply available as everyting-on-a-chip boards. I'm sure this uses the same Genesis board as those Majesco or other plug'n'play Genesis systems, which I'm pretty sure is indeed the same as the Genesis 3 like MrSparkle mentioned. Those do have pretty good compatibility from what I've seen.

There's been lots of pirate Mega Drive systems going back at least 10 or 15 years, and I don't know if they all use the same architecture or not. The Genesis is all off-the-shelf stuff so it would have been pretty easy to clone right from the beginning, but especially more recently with all the cheapie embedded chip designs available now.

We just got a unit in to our store, I have not cracked it open as I am still shrinkwrapping systems and the UPS man just dropped it off.

I will however let you all know how they turn out, and I will try out a bunch of games.

It definitly looks cool. I can't wait to see the inside. :rocker:

It would be interesting if it had a Z80 processor inside, so it could use the Master System converter.

I can understand getting a replacement for the NES, with it's terrible cartridge port that needs replacing fairly quickly, but the Genesis always seemed pretty stable. And they're common as dirt, too. I definitely wouldn't buy this thing just for Genny games. As a freakshow-type novelty, though, it would be pretty nice to pick up.

I'd rather own the Scorpion 16.

Bondage

I agree, Genesis are a dyme a dozen, so if this is a good way to play NES games it may find it's nitch, but it it plays NES as crap then what is the point?

Very nice!!!

I must add this two-headed-baby to my clone collection.

I hope Joe gets some in at the DP store, as I've got some sweet credit just burning a hole in my pocket.

I don't really think it's necessary, but then again neither is my box of 12 non-functioning Genesis consoles I refuse to throw out.

What we really need is a system which runs EVERY system ever produced, from Atari to PS2.

I think (custom firmware'd) PSPs win the prize for the biggest emulation catalog.

Heh, just fixed my PSP actually. My genesis emulator has all of six games because they're all I play for the most part.

I picked one up last night and it's pretty much like having an FC Twin. The good news, is every Genesis game I've tested it with, works great. Only downside is the NES side of the machine still cannot play CastleVania 3, yet loves everything else.

The sound chip is very odd, it'll work fine on everything, except when you pop in any Sonic game. The music and ring sound effects will be loud, but every other sound effect is very quiet.

If you experience any weird distortion while playing a game, just make sure the cartridge is clean, I had this problem with Frogger & Gunstar Heroes. Yet after I cleaned my carts, the image was perfect.

Colors are a little off on some NES games, like Dr. Mario. It's pretty much the exact same look as to that of the FC Twin.

Now my biggest question, is if someone could test Golden Axe 2 on this system, because from what I remember, Golden Axe 2 does not like the 6 button controller. Since you would normally have to hold down "MODE" button and then turn on the power before starting the game. The biggest reason I bring this up, because there's no MODE button on these controllers. Which reminds me, you cannot use normal Genesis controllers on this system, because the 9 pin input has been designed differently. Yet you can see, it was mostly designed after the majesco 6 button controls that were released during the Genesis 3.

NES controls are interesting, you can use AB or BC buttons whenever playing an NES game.

Yet I would have to give this a 6 out of 10. It loves every Genesis game I've thrown at it, 28 in total...and I would really like to say thanks to the person who gave the Genesis a nice ressurection. Sucks about CastleVania 3, but regardless, it loves other popular NES games.

There is even a bizzare dip switch in the back of the system. says "O/J"...now I have no clue what this does...but hopefully I'll find out.

Could be a region switch for the Genesis. Overseas/Japan.

There you go. If only the NeoFlash clowns would actually finish the Genesis flash cart that people are waiting on instead of making stupid crap like this.

UPDATE! You are correct! This little switch allows you to play JPN MegaDrive games! :D

Ironic, since the next post, does show a FC/MD clone. Designed exactly like the one we just got.

DAMN... that looks SWEET... too bad it's not a SMS/Genny duo though... now THAT I would buy, but since I don't have any NES games nor any desire to aquire that addiction, I'll hold off until someone makes a better combo...

Nice review!

I expected as much on the NES side of things the moment that I saw the system. Standard HK NOAC hardware likely...which isn't a bad thing, but, seriously...when is somebody over there going to revise / update / upgrade NOAC hardware to work with games like Castlevania III?

Other than that, it's great to hear that it's got nice Genesis compatability.

In your opinion, does the sound in the Sonic games make the experience annoying, frustrating or un-playable?

Also, have you tried Sonic & Knuckles either by itself or with any of the other Sonic games attached?

There is a SMS-on-a-chip (or maybe GG-on-a-chip) floating around as seen in a few plug'n'play or one-off handheld systems released over the past couple years, so maybe that'll happen. I guess it's not possible using just the Genesis-on-a-chip and some kind of built in Power Base Converter.

There's also Atari 2600 on a chip designs, too, obviously. I'd really like to see a system that combined all of these X-on-a-chips into one system. Yeah, I can already play all the game emulated on one system or another or my computer, but even with the compatibility problems, actual hardware is always better than emulation, in my experience.

Excellent review MegaDrive20XX. Too bad this thing isn't compatible with Genesis controllers (which means you can't use a 2600 controller for shits and giggles either).

I wonder if Virtua Racing (which won't play on a Genesis 3) works on this thing...
