My boss gave me a slim PSTwo to look at. Said it wouldn't turn on. She's right.
It's on standby but won't actually turn over. The red light is there. I opened it up and checked the switch and seems fine. Connection is strong. The yellow power port itself is tight as well. Any ideas?

If it just wont turn on at all and the system hasn't been abused maybe the fuse has burnt out.
I don't know much about PS2s but I know this is a common problem with Sega CD units. If the fuse is dead all you gotta do is find it, remove and relplace.

Where are the fuses before I completely take this apart? Is it easy to tell which ones are out? Do I need a special kind to replace them with?
Thanks!

It's probably a 70012 model, if the switch is good (it always is) then the system controller IC bad and that's a custom BGA part........sorry :(
Always check fuses in any repair but the odds are not in your favor with this one.

Sounds like either a blown fuse or a bad power brick. I'm guessing fuses.
There are 17 fuses in a slimline ps2: http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/fuses/v12_gh032_fuses.jpg
Good luck! I'd just tell her to send it back to sony for repair or have her toss it.

the fuses are surface mount, and its kinda really difficult to replace them.. in the past i've just put a blob of solder in instead. my logic was that the console is already dead, so if something dodgy makes it work, then so be it.
also that controller ic problem sounded convincing, so you might be out of luck anyway. if it wont work, you can always sell the laser. i just read xyxzyz on these forums is looking for one:P
