Hi all,

My daughter has wanted several things for Christmas. Chief among those items was a Mario Party for the DS and a Wii. Up until now Vectrex has been the kind of the house, followed closely by Nintendo 64 and an XBOX that was free from a friend. The only reason the M$ console snuck into the house was under the guise of exercise (DDR).

So I stopped by GameStop (Serramonte Mall in Daly City, CA) again this week, on a lark of all things. Checked on the MP for DS and what do you know??? Wii's in stock!!. M.P.'s in stock as well! They were even nice enough to break some out 30 minutes early for me. I think the fact I was there on a break from work and in full motorcycle gear with the laptop bag on my back had something to do with the GameStop employees taking pity on me. There was a queue of people in the store waiting for the magic time of 4:30 PM to break into the fresh stock that just arrived at the store. Thank you very much GameStop!
So with all the good lock that day my brain woke up and Alexa will now be getting a Wii for Xmas. I went ahead and bought another controller in the form of the Wii play package, plus another nunchuck. Pretty much your basic setup.

Now what? What is the best game of a seven year old you people can recommend? Or rather the best three games. Alexa won't be getting them for Xmas but I can guess she will be getting some more soon. Like in January. It's her birthday month.

Taking suggestions for games and hardware. I will consider all platform gems for the Wii as long as the title is not adult themed. Every platform has their killer game but no killing for Alexa right now. She will have time for that later in life.

Merry Christmas to all the DP Crowd too. I am a little light on the content in between CG Expos but I do lurk a lot. DP people are a great crowd with a lot of good advice.

Well, congrats on getting the Wii... I love mine... not the most played amongst the 30 at the moment, but definately top 5.

For your daughter, I would have to guess, but....

Mario Party 8 is really Fun, and its something that you and the wife might enjoy playing with her.

Wario Ware Smooth Moves is fun and pretty easy.

Raving Rabids is also a good mini-game that is pretty fun and easy as well.

Depending on how her attention span is and how well she does with games, Mario Galaxy is a good one and you can never go wrong with a mario game!

PS... from italy, Buono Natale (Merry christmas)!

Glad to hear you are able to get a Wii (the new fashion is to bash what is popular  shame that there is so much Wii hate now…)

My Daughter is 6 years old and the games she love to play are:

Super Mario Galaxy
Cooking Mama
Super Paper Mario
Wii Sports

From some of the impressions I've read on NiGHTS, I am positive my daughter will also enjoy NiGHTS as she is able to play the Saturn version (though she has struggle at bosses before)

When ever Mario Kart make it ways to the Wii I am confident my daughter will enjoy that as she LOVE Mario Kart DS!

This problem will remain for her in the new Nights. Overall I find the Boss battles to be a bit thougher than in the Saturn version. She should still be able to handle the regular levels though.

Vectrexr, good to see you post, loved your content at the last CGE 07(your dedication to the Vectrex is legendary)

I have 3 neices and can help you out a bit. Girl Games on the Wii are Plentiful.

Some I recommend are:

Elebits
Carnival Games(overlooked but great)
My Sims(you can make stuff, and kid friendly)
EA Playground

Happy Holidays from the Northwest!

All funs games! Thanks a lot people!.

Carnival Games looks like another great group game.

Cooking Mama? Looks like an interesting variant. Somewhat overpriced but I like the idea of a cooking intro as a game to make cooking fun. Even if it does not really teach you how to cook. The extra utensils for the controllers look fun too.

Lucky I have a friend who works for EA. Up to now I have passed over all offers of games. The Wiii will give me a reasone to accept.

Anyone know if there is a way to lock out specific games, or specifc ESRB ratings on the Wii?

What about the DS + Wii. Any good games out there that blend the two platforms for either live gameplay, or game/character advancement?

Yes, one of the system updates added parental controls. I havent ried to use them though so I cant tell you how they work. My guess is you lock them out by rating and if you want to play something of said rating, use a code only the parents know to allow play.

Yep, you can lock out M rated games, as well as lock out the internet among other things. The parental codes on the wii are pretty good.

I'm pretty sure that the Pokemon games offer some sort of connectivity with the Wii.

Oh, and you might want to look into Wii Play. It's sort of like Wii Sports "plus."

Both my kids and I found Cooking Mama's controls to be pretty frustrating and quirky. There's nothing like knowing what to do and trying to do it but failing because the controller simply isn't registering what you're doing. Likewise, Warioware was okay, but the microgames included within didn't keep my kid's attention for long.

Ones that have already been mentioned that I would also recommend include:

Carnival Games: My kid loves the fact that the games here are "real" games. He knows what ski-ball is and has seen these games at the fair and so there's something about that that kids inherently like. And, it's cheap.

Mario Party 8: My kid loves this one too. There are graphical explinations of each minigame showing you what you're supposed to do, which makes understanding each one a lot simpler. Another good thing about this one is, although it's a lot of fun in multi-player mode it's not bad in single-player mode either, which gives ol' dad a break.

Raging Rabid Rabbits: Again it's minigames, but the variety and humor keeps this one interesting for a long time. There's a part one and two, both are enjoyable.

A couple that I haven't seen mentioned yet are Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey and that Hannah Montana game.

The best news is, until she gets more games, Wii Sports is liable to keep her entertained for the next month. My family and I played Wii Bowling and Wii Tennis for a couple of months before we bought any other games.
