View Full Version : Famicom Disk System not working. Is it the belt?

I just got a Famicom Disk System for Christmas, and it just seems to hang on the load screen whenever I put a disk in while making a buzzing noise. Is the issue from the seemingly easily fixable belt, or would this be something else? If it's the belt, does anyone have a tutorial for changing it?

Every one of the 5 or so of these I have fixed was the belt. Confirm the belt's slipping then either find a suitable replacement or make it tighter. I cut out a small piece and recconected the ends with some automotive adheasive.

Good luck!

Here's a tutorial on chainging the belt:

Is it giving you an error code?

Thanks for the link, and no error code whatsoever was given. I guess I'll be on the look out for a replacement belt.

jfgoods sells them on Ebay for about $18 + shipping. They can be purchased new in Japan for $5-$10 if you know anyone there.

Hmm sounds like the belt drive but i'm not even sure.

Have you ask any body at this site about it ?

People seem there to know a good deal about the fds.

I have bought and repaired three of these. It is most likely the belt. If it is not, or, if you replace it and it still won't work, give this a try.

In the pictures provided in the link you can see a metal circle with a yellow label. There is a hole behind the yellow label. A small jewelers screw driver/small flat head driver will fit in there. This is used to adjust the belt speed I believe. Anyhow, this may need to be tweaked to the left or right.

One of the systems I fixed not only had to have the belt replaced, but, that screw adjusted. It would not work untill I adjusted that screw. Give it a try by tweaking it a little left or a little right.

Holy hornbeam!

I was always of the understanding that replacing the belt was a "simple procedure" ...

... that photo tutorial for the Famicom Twin System is certainly wonderfully produced ... but I'd hardly call that a "simple procedure"!

Is the standard Famicom Disc System attachment easier than the steps detailed in the Twin System walk through?

It's pretty much the same actually.
