I was playing SFA2 on the SNES for the first time the other day and noticed that Sodom had been renamed Katana. It's been a while since I played the game and I only have the "gold" version available on the PS1 compilation; is the SNES version the only one with the altered name? Is the name altered because Nintendo was wary of a character name so close to sodomy? Please satisfy my curiosity!

Yes, I'm fairly certain it was the only port to have his name altered. And though not confirmed (or has it been? *shrug*) Nintendo changed it because yeah, I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Kinda strange though, SNES was dying by the time SFA 2 came out, and Nintendo loosened up considerably by then, still, I guess old habits die hard... or something.

Wasn't Sodom renamed Katana because he was Katana in his Final Fight SNES incarnation, i.e. the third boss you fight in the ring?

I know Nintendo used to alter anything biblical, and Sodom, well yeah I think you all know where that's going.

Yep, in SNES Final Fight, one of the first SNES titles, Sodom was renamed Katana, and Damnd was renamed "Thrasher". Roxy and Poison went AWOL, Guy was deleted... That port was NOT the full meal deal.
