K, my friends think I am crazy for spending so much time and money on games. I only really got into collecting about two years ago, not even.
Currently, the most I have ever spent on a game was $188. And it was for Harvest Moon complete factory sealed for SNES off of ebay. My next down is $75 for Legend of Mana for PS1. I am crazy for spending that much, but I really needed it for my collection... ...
So what was the most you've ever spent or given up for a game?

$188 for a sealed SNES Harvet Moon? Sounds like a small bargain, actually. I'd imagine them to go in the neighborhood of $250... hell, cart only they tend to fetch for $55+ (limited release IIRC)
Anyway, most I sacrificed for video games? Most I ever paid for any one single game was $98 (Crows: The Battle Action for Sega Saturn), but I'd list all the times I cancelled social events so I could stay home and snipe game crap on eBay. Thanksgiving 2004 stands out in my mind -- that night I left my GF's friend's party early so I could snipe. I did win the 3 games... but in hindsight it was not worth leaving the party for. I'd def. stay if I had a redo.

Well.. I paid for a Game Gear a bottle of wine that was really hidden by mi parents in the house.. Does that count? xD.. (The guy wanted to drink something).
...I have to say that the easiest one, was Sonic DX Director's Cut, I was walking near my sister's house, and It was on the floor, of course I picked it up.. don't know how it got there, but.........

traded a beat up fender strat for a sealed copy of super mario rpg honestly i think i got the better half of the bargain
Well, in reverse, some guy traded me a 60 gig PS3 straight across for one of my Wiis!!!
Gamewise, I haven't really paid large amounts for any one title, maybe $90 tops for a Dreamcast or N64 title.

I usuallywait until I find it cheap. Like my Earthbound ran me $3 at a flea market. But I payed $25 for cart only Gunstar Heroes once. It was worth it, but a week to the day later I found it for $7. I bought it and put it on ebay to cut my losses.

$25 for Fire N Ice isn't a bad price! I paid $100 for a complete Bubble Bobble 2 that would be my top buy.
Pingvin- This thread is also about what else you might have given up for games- be it in trade or just time, whatever. Not necessarily just money.
164$ for Symphony of the Night limited edition, I think.
Then again that isn't really so much since we europeans (or at least finns) have to pay around 100$ for a new game (wii,ps3,xbox360).

$60 for a game for a console I don't even own.
That game would be Rez for the PS2.
I would've paid even more for a copy with the trance vibrator.

As for the age-to-price ratio, I've got to go with the Magic Knight Rayearth game that saw the release of new old stock in the middle of 2002. It was 65 bucks, if I'm not mistaken.
Guitar Hero 2 for the 360 is probably the most I've spent on a single game. Luckily I got a good deal thanks to a good trade-in program Gamecrazy was doing at the time.

Speaking of "Magic Knight Rayearth"
I had to sacrifice $50 out of my $100 store credit to get a new/sealed complete copy of the game. :(
I also had to sacrifice a ton of junky import games I couldn't play to get that $100 credit. :(

There's been times i've broken the $100.00+ for some games.
Still it either ends up being a,TG16/PCE title or a NeoGeo MVS title that i want in kit form badly.
Can't say i've reach that point much with any domestic game though.

I remember paying 109.99 + taxes Canadian for WWF No Mercy for the N64 when it came out. I had to have that game day 1.
I think that's the most I've ever spent on 1 game.

Well, there's the $170 for Rock Band. That's the most I've ever spent on a single game.
But for older, collectible stuff, I spent $100 for a copy of Bubble Bobble 2 on eBay. It came with Bubble Bobble as well, but I already had that.

The most I have ever paid for a single game was $180.00 for a used copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga after my original copy was stolen.
The second most was around $125.00 for Beyond Shadowgate for the Turbo Duo. It was WELL worth it! Too few people have played this gem.

The most money I ever spent on a single game was $99.99 + tax. I bought Final Fantsy III for the SNES around the time it was first released. It was the first game I ever bought myself, I had saved up from my job delivering newspapers. I was a big sacrifice back then because I was only around 12 years old, and it would take about a month of delivering papers to make that money back.

I picked up the Trance Vibrator special pack for $20 last weekend. I guess that's a collector for you -- I already own the game on DC and PS2, but I buy it a third time.

That is a lot of money to put into a collection. Specially since you have been collecting for "two years ago, not even." Are you close to a complete collection for the SNES? Most peopel get all the basics first and then go for the high priced items. I wish you luck on your collecting!

Probably the N64 days were pretty expensive for me. I can remember paying $69.99 for Hexen 64, Multi Racing Championship and Top Gear Rally just to name a few.
