hey all,
alex, in the second pic here http://www.nintendo.com.au/ct06/sa_marion2.html
is a friend of mine and said he might be willing to sell me the glass trophy he's holding in that photo.

the trophy was for winning the mario kart ds connection tour tournament here in australia. there were eight of these trophies given out around the country, 1 tear drop shape, 1 rectangle shape, 2 fatter tear drop shapes, and 4 trapezoidish shapes, his is the last, unfortunately, so the least unique, but still, theres only four. it was a nintendo-au only event.

whats it worth? lol

It's hard to value things like that. I mean, it's worth something mainly to hardcore nintendo collectors and people who were in the tournament, but it would vary greatly from person to person.

yeah, i figured as much, im really after a very rough figure.. mainly cos i have no idea at all:P and also is it somehing that will increase in value? or something that is going to get forgotten entirely in a few years, and become worthless?

the only flaw i see is that it was a AU only event. other than that, its probably worth something, specially to other australians.

I have no idea of the value of it, but I would expect the value to increase as time goes on. The fact that it is AU only will hurt it a bit since it won't be that well known, but my guess is if you came out in ten years and said "hey, I've got 1 of 4 Nintendo competition trophies" you'd get some buyers pretty quick.

I'd say a couple hundred.

the more documentation he has the better.

No way over 50$, they hold vg tournaments all the time and that stuffs given out everywhere.

If the prize was a special version of the game, that would be an entirely different story.

Lets not get crazy, its just a trophy. People shouldnt lust over anything and everything that nintendo puts its name on.

Also, the winner of the tourney would be an idiot and a total ass if he sells it (at least in my humble opinion).

I wouldn't go overboard on your offer, it's a pretty generic looking trophy. Buyatari is right about getting together as much documentation as you can. I'd go sofar as to have him type up a short one page document explaining about the competition, the trophy, and the fact that you now own it. It may seem silly, but provenance is very important in determining the validity of a unique or near unique object, especially one that's so plain looking.
