Well i just got a generation NEX, and i have a few complaints and questions.

The Nes Catridge port seems to be very narrow, and nes games need to be pretty much 'forced' in to the system. This is wrecking the labels of games, and when the games get pulled out the catridge gets scratched. This is a HUGE dissapointment. Im not really bothered about not perfect sound or colour recreation.

Does this problem with the NES port, occur with anyone else?

Also when i try to get a nes game going the screen usually is scrambled or green. The games tried work on a toploader with pretty much no problem, but getting them to work on this is a chore. It took many tries to get metroid working and like 5+ tries and maniac mansion didnt work. I will try some more games, but im reluctant as i dont want them getting wrecked. The famicom port works w/o problems though.

Is my console poorly constructed/defective? Not sure how long warranty is, but i want to get it changed. My main issue is the unusually tight fitting port cause if that doesnt happen with anyone else i gotta get it changed.

Thanks for your time.

Uh... every game I've tried on the system has loaded up immediately. No jiggling or messing with the cartridge what-so-ever. Which is exactly what I like about the system.

I also don't think it's scratching up any games. But I never really looked before. I'll defiinately watch out for it now though.

Semi off-topic, but I might as well ask it here while it's up...

While searching for viable Christmas presents a few days ago, I saw two brand new Generation NEX's, plus two new sets of NEX controllers at my local Hastings. Like I mentioned, they were new and not used or traded in. How many stores actually carry the console? For some reason, I thought the only way you could obtain one was to order it directly from Messiah.

Mine does have a tight fit on the cartridges ... but the top case doesn't scrape my labels.

I also haven't had to move the contacts to get games to boot, but occasionally I've had to slide the games around prior to finding the correct "insertion" point between chip-strip and pin connectors.

Generation Nex is a decent NES clone, but just like Hong Kong NOAC systems, it's no substitute for the real thing. It's got it's compatibility issues, but I give it major points for having a Famicom slot and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the wireless controllers (picked up a set in the Generation NEX Lunchbox).

It sucks that yours is scraping your labels...wonder if there's anything you can do to alleviate that.

Well the only label it damaged was metroid cause the corner was coming off, and it wrecked it more. If the labels are not peeling at all they dont seem to get damaged.

My brother just got shadow gate working though, so maybe its not compatible with maniac mansion, contrary to the compatability listing?

Possibly.

I seem to recall something about "revisions" on that specific game due to censored content ... but that might have been an urban legend.

Standard question time : How are the contacts on the cartridge? Did you give the game a good cleaning? Does it work fine on your NES Top Loader?

I've never noticed mine having a tight fit, but I have noticed that I generally have to wiggle and mess with carts to get them to start up right, almost as much as I do with my old toaster.

I'm fairly disappointed with my NEX. Aside from the compatibility and sound issues, the thing doesn't even start up properly all the time like it said it would. The only reason I'm even keeping it is for the Famicom slot.

The contacts seem fine, havent cleaned them today but it boots up fine on the toploader aside from 50/60hz issues.

EDIT: Oh yes and the force required for pulling out carts, is such that one hands on the console and the other gets 'kick back' from pulling the nes carts out the slot. Just seems unnatural.

GameCrazy carried the NEX until recently.

The amount of force it took to insert cartridges into the NEX I used to have broke the cartridge port after only a few months of use.
