Even though GD Rom production has apparently ceased, it would appear Border Down is getting a reprint. It will be available exclusively from the Japanese store Messe Sanoh on the 17th of January.

Awesome news for anyone that's been wanting to get a copy at a reasonable price. Undoubtedly one of the best shmups that I've played and the first horizotal shmup I played in a very long time that I really got into. Guess I should have sold mine a few months ago when I was originally planning to, eh? :) Oh well, I was really on the fence about it anyway...it would have been good money, but god damnit...it IS Border Down.

So this is only available at a brick and mortar store? If so would anyone be willing to pick me up a copy? I'd really appreciate it.

Shit, why do games I usually end up paying top dollar for get reprinted? Oh well, no big deal. I suppose I was smart enough to snag games like Valkyrie Profile, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Final Fantasy Tactics (before the GH rerelease) and Chrono Trigger at normal retail price, so it's not like I haven't had my fair share of getting high ticket games cheaply.

Awesome news indeed!

I have a few friends who missed out the first time and now more people will have a chance at this fine game.

A true memorizer, the game also includes "sample plays" which are MOST helpful in realizing high scores! Be sure to check them out to get an idea on how to play. Then you can learn where good suicide points are to control the rank and really get some hi scores!

Right, it really would appear that these are only available to people who can go to the shop. And it's not exactly a mass reprint, it's gonna be about 2000 copies. I can imagine a few will show up on eBay, but it's really not going to bring the overall price of the game down. Shame really.

Well it is a reprint not the original and that means changes. This is a disc also and when reprinted will obviously have marks on it that shows it has been reprinted. It could also mean there is a buyer willing to pay mass dollars for the item being sold.

Another hurray for the Dreamcast!!

Not necessarily - the GQD reprints of PS1 titles are indistinguishable from the originals.

I contacted both NCSX and Play-Asia and neither one thought they would be able to stock the reprint. I imagine a few copies may show up on Ebay and Yahoo.JP, but overall not much impact on the overall supply unfortunately. I also doubt the reprint will be distinguishable from the earlier runs. Paying for new art and everything that would change about the printing process is probably not warranted for such a small niche product.

Looks like it's just the normal edition they're doing (along with the soundtrack)....assuming a run of 2k, that'll bring the total up to 9,000 normal editions (from 7,000) and leave the limited editions at 3,000.

Needs more XBLA port post-haste.

Agreed. That game just screams XBLA. With the way the play mechanic works, it would be fun as hell to get achievements if they are done correctly. I would pay $10 for it.

For what its worth, the soundtrack reprints are already on the shelf:

Can anyone point in the right direction to buy one?

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like many people really organized a group buy and the reprint is now sold out. Copies are available on Yahoo.JP, but you're looking at 10,000 Yen plus Rinkya or similar service fees and shipping. I would imagine a few copies will show up on Ebay soon, but again you're probably looking at $125-$150 for a sealed copy.

You can only buy second hand. I got a lot of 10, but they were claimed before I got them.

Are you talking about the soundtrack? There is no way you got the reprint of the game for $55 US. It was sold by only one retailer and the price was 7100 Yen. Add shipping on that and the best you could have done was maybe $80 a copy. What online game shop are you claiming sold it for that price?
