Just wanted some opinions before I made my purchase. I had a rev 1 PSP, but foolishly sold it a while back. Now that the lite is out - is it better or should I just get another fat? I had a friend tell me that he thought the new one felt cheap - but his opinion is suspect.
Thanks in advance

I actually just bought a Lite today, as I had sold my Original over the summer when I lost my job.
Personally, I prefer the Lite a lot more. It does feel a lot lighter, but it also feels more solidly built. It doesn't feel as fragile as the old one. Oh and, all the buttons are raised a bit. Hitting Home, Select, and Start is much easier on the new model than the old one. With the speakers at the top of the unit as opposed to the bottom, it also seems to sound better (But maybe that's just me).

I hate to sound like I'm nitpick here, but there was a rather large thread a couple weeks back discussing pretty much the same exact question. That said, it seemed as though most of the people who posted in said thread thought the original PSP was superior to the newer lite model.

MMmmm...not everybody.
I own a fat and a slim.
I think that the slim is superior in terms of it's streamlined weight, shape, and construction, and having the option for video output / improved on-board load cache hardware for future game development to take advantage of outweighs the qualities of the fat PSP and makes it a winner in my book.
Once Sony releases the battery door cover for the slim to use the fat PSP's battery, it'll have yet another superior feature in terms of extended battery life.

When I first got my slim psp I noticed the flimsy side to it. On mine the analog was constantly creaking. The one thing that reassured me was the fact that custom firmware could still be run on it. This makes everything okay in my opinion.

Are the fat PSP's like scooters?

Old PSPs are easier to modify, you dont need the Pandora Battery and Magic Mem stick to do it. That being said, you still need a copy of Lumines, GTA (unpactched) or a Pandora's battery to get it down to 1.50 Firmware then up it to a custom firmware. They are more compatible with the Homebrew stuff because they can use the 1.50 kernel.
Slims have TV Out, and require the Pandoras Battery to get a CFW put on it. They are supposed to be brighter. They CAN NOT get the 1.50 kernel on them so that makes them less compatible with the homebrew stuff.

The problem is that the Search function won't accept any queries under 4 letters. If i put in "PSP" it returns an error...
Thanks heybtbm for the thread link!
