Just throwing out a post to announce that I got a Wii for Christmas! I gave my wife a DS also so we're pretty Nintendo geeked up right now! I hooked up the Wii with a Wifi USB drive as well. Still holding out for buying the HDMI cables.
So my questions are as follows;
1. What are the best games to play online for Wii?
2. Are there any DS games that can be played over the internet?

HDMI cables? I think you meant component cables. HDMI for the Wii. That's pretty funny.

If you go 3rd party you can get the component cables for about 9 dollars.

Is it just me, or does composite look better than component on large hd tvs for the wii?
I have a 46 incher (not in my pants... pervs) and component makes everything look so jaggedy and muddy and ugly. 480i looks cleaner for some reason.
I dunno guys. I dunno.

Its your tv. HD is naturally better than composite.

I hardly put the Wii in the HD Category. Last time I read it was 480p nothing higher. Thats just progressive scan... slightly better than composite.

480P is High Definition. Anything over 480i is HD "High Definition"

Actually, no. 480p fits into EXTENDED DEFINITION... remember those TV's that "looked" high def.
720 and 1080 are HIGH DEFINITION
1440 2160 are ULTRA HIGH DEFINITION

For the new Wii Owner, you are going to love it! I got mine the day it came out and played it like a fiend. I have a PS3, 360, and the Wii... and love them all. The Wii, though, is great beause I feel less like a loser playing it because I am actively involved in the game!

It's gotta be you. I have a 52 inch Sharp Aquos. The Wii looked so much better after I bought component cables for it. I don't remember if you have to change the resolution setting after you hook it up or if it automatically does it?
Also, I have an extra set of component cables I would like to get rid of if anyone is interested. The Gamestop kind. Made by Mad Catz.

Probably even less.

I'm hoping to win a Wii through a contest at work. My store needs to build a display of Mountain King brand potatoes, and send in pictures to the company. There's ten of them up for grabs, and I doubt too many other stores are going to bother with it. So I think I have a pretty good shot at one, if I can find the time to do it. Just getting the opportunity to build a display is next to impossible, though. There's never enough time.

Umm, yeah...that's what I meant. Perhaps that's why the guy at Gamestop shrugged me off by saying "they don't exist", and thus never bothered to mention to me what I may have wanted instead. So component is the way to go. Thank you!

What are the best games to play online for Wii?
Medal of Honor Heroes 2 (according to IGN.com's review, the 32-player online mode runs extremely well)
Mario Strikers Charged
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Battalion Wars 2
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (coming February 10)

So I guess my last question (for now at least) is what to do with my Gamecube? I think there was thread about this question before. Does anyone see a purpose to keeping a Gamecube if you have a Wii?
I may end up keeping mine if just for the fact that I can use the Game Boy Player to play some GBA games on the big screen.

That seems like the only reason...and a good one, too!

The GBP is the only piece of HW that's incompatible with the Wii. Otherwise, it uses all other peripherals and HW (controllers, memory cards, etc) natively with 100% game compatability.
There is one reason to keep the GC -- if you have 2 TV's, you could pop out the GC memory card and the GC game from the Wii, put it into the GC in the other room, and continue gaming on a secondary TV if, say, you want to keep playing ZWW and everyone else wants to watch a movie.
Note that you may have issues selling a GC for what seems like an equitable amount. Even more so if you want to keep the GC controllers. The Wavebird is selling like a collector's item.

Indeed those warebirds are fetching some big numbers.
