I am in the process of buying a new PC and since I am not going to have it built b/c I don't anyone that I think can do it, I was wondering is anyone out there playing an MMO right now while running Vista?

The Ones I am considering

WoW

EQ2

LoTR

EVE

Also can you run Vista in Xp Mode like you could on XP with Windows 3.1

I know that WoW is the one game that is popular right now. I am looking for a MMO that has great Tradeskilling of items. I like to make the stuff and harvest the materials more then I like to adventure. Unless you all can think of a Console game that will let me do this? I didn't think there was one out there.

One last question which one of the 4 do you all think is the most solo friendly?

Thanks again

LOTR is more solo friendly but WOW and EQ2 are both easy in solo mode if thats your thing. EQ2 has a better tradeskill system than the others. The best thing to do first is to download the trials for each game and go from there (I think LOTR has a trial not sure).

you should maybe buy 2 or three, just put 8-9 hours aside each night for addiction purposes. If you reverse the polarity on the Vista card, you can run XP in gaming mode. MMO"S are really about guilds, you can join one that raids all the time or not. If you raid, put 10-12 hours aside each night. good luck

EVE Online is boring, in a good way. Im actually looking to get back into it. Instead of the grind fest, your skills level over a set period of time (which can be changed by certain things, but those are details hah). Its all about the economy in that game, all user driven. If you want a money game, there you go. And if you want a game with reprecutions for dying, there you go. Your ship got blown up? Its gone, it got blown up. I love it :) Nothings more satisfying then jumping out of hyperspace and letting all your guns go. EVE is very, very solo friendly, but there are corporations and such. Just dont venture out in unpatrolled, free pvp space hah

From the list you've provided, I would say EVE Online.

It's not on your list, but have you heard of A Tale in the Desert (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Tale_In_The_Desert)?

It's very different from most other MMOs. Instead of focusing on grinding and gathering the biggest and best items, it tends more towards working together, tradeskilling and actual community building. It's a comparatively small userbase, and the developers have more regular contact with the users than in other MMOs. The graphics may leave something to be desired, but as a retro gamer it doesn't really bother me.

It explores some interesting ideas as well, such as allowing the users to petition their own laws into the game, with real effects. Users can even elect their own "Demi Pharaoh", a player who can actually ban an alloted number of people from the game, but from what I've read this doesn't actually happen very often.

If I had a real broadband connection, this is what I'd be playing right now. Check it out.

Myst Online: Uru Live is in GameTap, and I'm quite sure that GameTap is now Vista-supported (and has been for a long time, I bet). Fun game, have always wanted to get back into it.

reverse the polarity on what vista card? you dont have to do anything to the hardware of the system...just right click the program/software/game icon, go to properties, click run in xp mode. thats it.

Does it slow the games down if i do run it in that mode? Also I was told that Vista will take up to 1 GB of ram just to run the program is there truth to that as well?

Thanks for all the input everyone its helped me in my decision making.

well if you are going to get vista and use vista's special features i would recommend 2 GB or more of ram. 1 GB would be minimum.

I dont believe it would slow anything down if you ran things in XP mode.
