Is there a finished version of missing in action for the 7800 and are there copies that have been sold or is this game just a prototype.

Who doesn't?
It's more advanced than the 2600, and everybody LOVES that thing. Simple logic for simple minds like me.

By AA you mean Atari Ages
and yes I was thinking I was going to really hate the 7800 when I first played it but actuley I liked it.
But the Master System will always be my number one 8 bit.

The game was supposedly finished, but the prototype version that was found is not quite complete. Cartridges were being sold, but unfortunately they are no longer available. The binary has been released, however.

So is the repro they released actually legal, or is it just another repro that someone dumped and copied?

Atari Age lists it as 85% prototype, and the guy who had the only true prototype was making the cartridges. Send him a message on that forum, he may make more. There weren't many known 7800 prototypes, and MIA is probably the only one I would consider worthy of a repro. http://www.atari7800.org/labelscans/Missing_In_Action.htm

I'm not sure I understand that question...when are prototype reproductions ever fully legit/legal?
Mitch made the cartridges himself and had labels and manuals printed. Marc Oberhauser made boxes for those who desired them. It was as legit of a release as it's going to get.

Mitch sold most of what he had at CGE and sold his last remaining copies about a month ago. I don't know if he's planning to make any more or if he's willing to.

A prototype reproduction is legit only when the legal owner of the intellectual property produces, or gives permission to produce, the cartridge run. Just because someone owns a physical prototype, it doesn't necessarilly make them the owner of the intellectual property. Even if a game's designer gives the permission, the intellectual property may still be owned by the company he worked for.

That almost never happens.

My point exactly.
