I guess this would be under classic gaming, if not mods please adjust. Is this game worth the 1000 Wii points? I saw the gameplay videos but wanted to see what everyone else thought of this game. Thanks!

Yeah, the game is worth a tenner for sure, but the original cart price seems to have crashed so as to make it a bit overpriced, I think. Of course the original cart requires importing, etc etc.

But as a game? Good arcade-style run-n-gun action. Maybe not as good as the Treasure fanboy hype, but still pretty damn good.

Iam pretty sure they're asking 1200 wii points to download this title. Even with the $12 price tag, it's well worth it IMO.

My bad, you're right. It's 1200 points, not 1000. Thanks for catching that.

It is well worth the price and is a bright spot of positive thing the Virtual Console can offer. I pick it up because I want to see more of the Japanese treasures(no pun) come to the USA. Many great game are in Japan only and now we can see them come out in the USA with the VC. :D

definetly worth it. Far easier than acquiring an imported cart and the necessary accessory to play it on your 64. Cheaper to. Hopefully we will continue to see rare/unreleased/import titles on VC

Only get the VC version if you can't get the N64 version.

Can you play it on a US N64 unlike the PAL games

I played Sin and Punishment for the first time a few days ago on the Wii Virtual Console. I've been reading great reviews for it ever since it was released in 2000, but never imported it.

My brother and I played it using Gamecube controllers, but Wii Classic Controllers are probably similar. It took a few minutes to get used to the control scheme, but after that, we had a lot of fun. The two player mode consists of one player moving the character and shooting and the other player controlling the aim of the gun.

The graphics and presentation really impressed me. The main characters are angular and have a fairly low polygon count, even for the year 2000, but the game is so fast paced that it doesn't really matter. There's always a ton of action on-screen, but my favorite part is a few levels into the game where the main character flies over the ocean and shoots at battleships, helicopters, airplanes, and soldiers. That particluar level has an incredible cinematic look and feel to it.

There are plenty of special effects and real-time lighting going on at all times and the framerate always stays perfect, which impressed me even more. There's also big boss battles (people, creatures, and spaceships), a weird but interesting story, and lots of voice acting.

Overall, Sin and Punishment reminds me of a really hectic, fast-paced version of Star Fox 64, which is one of my favorite games of all time. It's a great arcade-style action/shooter game with impressive graphics and presentation.

Yeah. Dl it for sure. I picked up an import copy last year. Very cool Treasure game imho.
I agree with what Rob2600 said.

S&P is my #1 choice for best "short" game for the N64

It's not that long of a ride, but it's incredible fun while it lasts.

Playing it on the N64 itself is amazing, especially the aircraft carrier scene. I didn't know the console could put out graphics like that... and WITHOUT an expansion pak!!!

A truly essential purchase for the N64.

Like the US SNES, just remove the tabs inside the cart slot...

And I utterly love the game, one of those everyone should play once (or preferably lots of times) in their lives...

Coincidentally i recently finished a review for that game. In the review i cited the dogfight sequence as many people have already mentioned. But don't wait for the review, BUY IT NOW!

If you import it and happen to have a security bit, just swap out the back plate from a US crappy N64 cart and you'll be good to go. I hate the concept of busting things off a cart.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I didn't feel a need to start a new one for this topic.

Can anybody give me some advice on beating the polestar? I always get its energy down to the point where I need 1 more sword swing before I run out of time, but it inevitably blows up on me. All the 'net faqs gloss over this part of the game as if it's really simple but I've been stuck on this thing for MONTHS. If anybody can give me some assistance, I'd really appreciate it.

Don't miss any shots on its way towards you, and then jam on the z-trigger to slash faster than you have been doing it. You may also be able to slash it from further away than you may realize. I don't know how soon you're trying to do it.

Is that hard to do? I must pick this game up sooner or later.

It's very easy. Anyone who has the proper security bit can do it.

Like Vectorman0 said, it's pretty easy. Security bits aren't really expensive, like $6 or $7 with shipping off eBay. Just pop it into any driver and off you go. The cartridge just pops open at the seams. Just replace the back part of the shell with some other US title, put the screws back in and you're done.

Speaking as someone who's never played an N64 import game (nor have I researched it)- is this true for all Japanese imports on the N64? I have the bits, so it would be super easy to do.

Remove the tabs out of the cart socket and you can play all Japanese games then. Saves replacing each individual cart casing then.

Well, Streetball, I'm going to wager that you already have it now, but let me just give it my nine thumbs up regardless. It is the ONLY N64 import title I own, and what a bunch of greatness it is! The control can be a bit flustering at times, but the game is one of the most inventive, innovative, and outright intense titles it's been my honor to experience. It's doubly worth it on the Virtual Console, as the control is quite a bit friendlier on the Classic Controller! :)

Also, any support towards import titles makes me smile, so consider than an extra incentive. ;)
