Call me crazy, but I actually like the Master System covers for their simplicity.

Anyway, this may very well be the single worst cover ever:

I'm surprised nobody did this one yet:

That's not even the worst cover art for a Strider game.

THAT is the worst cover art for Strider.

Wow. That is absolutely horrendous and hideous. It looks like it was taken straight from a first grade art class. I'm sure the publisher's budget was very limited, but c'mon...no excuse for an eyesore like that.

Which version of Strider is that? Regardless, I kinda like it in a campy, cheesy 80s glam sort of way. Strider there looks like a cross between Fabio, Iron Man, and Flash Gordon...with a long sword.

I agree with this. It almost looks as if the Hillbilly was out on his porch at night strumming the banjo and hears the ship passing by in the sky and is looking up with an almost suprised look on his face as if he is saying, "honey, what the hell was that" , "I don't know Abner maybe just one of dem dare passenger planes again." and would go back to strumming the guitar because the thought of a shooting space ship is far beyond his farming comprehension.

Hell yeah, you know something is screwy when your banjo transforms into a guitar.
Honestly, I have always felt the same way about the cover. I really like it myself. I know back in the day it made me pick it up and check it out. Mission accomplished.

I think what would have helped the cover is if the dog laying next to the man would have it's head up with a dumb look on it's face.

I think the real problem is that you are afraid of men who wear a golden codpiece.

That's the cover I've always loathed the most. Lack of artistic skill is one thing, but that's the most professionally designed and executed eyesore I've ever seen.

I always considered Phalanx (SNES) to have one of the worst box art. What does a old man playing a banjo have to do with a space shooter? Now, with that being said, I consider it to be a fantastic shooter.

I heard the following about Plalanx over 10 years ago. I saved the text. Here it is:

Irritating stick isn't a bad game. The cover is a bit simplistic (ie done overnight on a rush job I would guess) but not top 10 bad.

These days all the covers are computer generated. I miss the old ones.
