Um?

It's OK, there will be lots of pictures and video. It will almost be like you were there! Except no Wii or XBox 360. Also none of the usual stuff: Game deals, food that's bad for you, and naked women.

Maybe next time.

Guys that look like women that run around unclothed don't count as naked women.ROFL

While you weren't looking, I stroked them.

I was impressed that they were so big and black!

I've never drank in a retail space before...it was freeing. I had a great time, the tournaments were fun and the atmosphere was great. Everybody I met was way cool - plus I came away with some sweet carts that you can't buy anywhere else but the internet.

Can't wait for the next NAVA!

Seriously. Good stuff. It was my first NAVA, met some cool people, and hope to stay in the "community" so to speak.

Dylan, before I comment on the day - who was the YouTube celeb I met yesterday? Nice guy but I'm unfamiliar with his work (or anyone on YouTube, as of now). Captain S? Do you have a link to his online stuff?

Simply put you meet Chad Williams (the creator and producer) and Brett Vanderbrook (The star) of "The new adventures of Captain S" a web show taking off of the Captain N and the Game Master Series, except a lot funnier and more....90ish sitcom. Maximo (guy in Earthbound 3 beanie) was their artist for the show and friend. They just celebrated their one year anniversary and with the combined emails of myself and Dylan convinced them to come (they are in Astoria for darn sakes)

I meet them in the past, they were cool, had an awesome time. Maximo wanted to live in the cellar to look at all the games you had down there. Brett thought you whole store was a museum, until I showed them the actual museam, Chad like drinking beer and playing atari. To my knowledge they will be back next month with more members of PBC selling their DVD and soundtrack. By the way that would not be a bad idea to just sell their stuff with your regular merchandise....just saying.

Also they do other videos and random tomfoolery on their website (not a youtube star per se, since they have a hosting site, but it is close enough). If you want to know anything else about them let me or them know.

I'm so glad I went, I missed everyone a lot :) It was great to meet some new forum members, and Joe's crew of AWESOME employees; the store was pretty crammed for quite a while! I've got some pictures to go through and post later. The Wii and 360 competitions were pretty intense (Matt, the Street Fighter II champion, or Sal and his crazy 500 points!). I was sad that we didn't get to bring either system home with us, but it was really cool to see how happy the winners were with their winnings, and for Mr. Santulli to give them away. Somehow, Kid Ice snuck away before Chandler could let him try some Guiness!

I (and Lissette) had a great time (as always).

It was great to meet Punkoffgirl, Tony The Tiger, Katja Red and to see everybody else again!!

To anyone who went: who was playing rock band with me?

I'm sure I was in a band rotation or two with you.

I was frequently busting out the tasty vocals ...

Hey Joe, next time we have Rock Band out at Nava, I'll be more than happy to buy a MS Points Card to add a bunch of DLC to your account. (I have Rock Band on PS3, or else I'd just throw my XBL account on the store's 360 and re-download).

I'm pretty sure most people were getting tired of Dani California and whatever that Coheed & Cambria song is called.

There's a lot of great songs available online, and it'll probably be triple the current amount by the end of next month.

Sorry I had to bail... my kid and his freind were nagging the crap out of me to go home and play their new stuff... I remember those days....

Anyways, Joe, thanks so much for getting ahold of that Tetris DS, worth every penny! Great game! Now I have another game to beat my wife at :)

(of course if I want to get any I'll have to LET her win a few times.....)

Later!

Totally forgot, what were the competitions for the 360 and Wii?

Joe had planned to use a repro Nintendo World Champ cartridge from RetroUSB.com on a YOBO FC Twin system, but after the opening round, the cartridge stopped functioning.

The 1st competition for a Wii was supplanted with a SNES Street Fighter II tourney, (I forgot who won that one) and the 2nd competition for the 360 became a competition edition of "Demon Attack" (hacked, sped up & re-mapped) tournament on the Atari 2600.

Sal (not sure of his forum name) had to have his "perfect" game "stopped" by Joe at 500 points as we weren't sure if he'd ever lose a life! Needless to say, he took home the prize and all of our Demon Attack respect.

500+ points is a very good score. Very few people can last that long with no extra lives. I just wanted to thank Albert at AtariAge for making the cartridge and getting it to Joe in time for the meet. And thanks to Joe for using the game.

Invader X Contest is a competition edition of my Demon Attack hack Invader X. You can download the regular version to play on an emulator here:
http://www.att.net/p/s/community.dll?ep=87&subpageid=133150&ck=

Contest Cartridge Overview:
If you have played Demon Attack and need a new challenge, then step up to Invader X!! These Invaders attack with more speed and cunning then the Demons ever did. Watch out for the new Stealth Technology!!

Only three Ships against the Invaders. How high can you score??

INSTRUCTIONS:

Move ship left and right with joystick.
Press button to fire. You can hold down the button for auto-fire.

SCORING:

Invader - 1 point
Mini-Invader - 2 points
Kamikaze Invader - 4 points

LIVES:

You start the game with one active ship and two in reserve. When a ship is destroyed it will be replaced with
one of your reserve ships. When all ships are gone the game displays your final score.
NO EXTRA SHIPS ARE AWARDED IN THIS GAME.

I had a great time seeing everyone and just being part of the NAVA vibe. I regret not introducing myself to everyone, but I'm a bit shy in crowds, and once I feel too much time has passed, it's hard to do it. Frankie, thanks for complimenting my Joy Balls and for handling them, it was very nice of you. You could have had them for cheap. :) Definitely some tasty vocals from Frankie. It was good to see Jaime again after almost four years. /me waves in the direction of Maine

You know what was weird? Being one of the oldest people there for a change. I've been going to NAVA since April 1996, more sporadically these days since I now live 3 hours away instead of 45 minutes. Thanks to Joe for picking up NAVA and for being a gracious host, and for the pizza. I hope to get back sooner this time.

My wife Sarah took a lot of pictures, here are some of them for your viewing pleasure:

It's fun in the store, but definitely more hectic. And it was kinda scary to stand there and sing, heh.

LOL, you totally should have introduced yourself! I was wondering who the boxed "Joy-Balls" belonged to ... but wound up too occupied with Rock Band and the tournaments to ask around.

Bring them up next time and I'll be sure to take a set (of balls) off your hands if the price is right.

It's interesting to see pictures from the eyes of someone who's never been there - some very interesting photos I would have never thought to take!

Great to see you again Ferg, and nice to finally meet MRS. Ferg. I'm only sorry we didn't get to chat more - I do find that after a full day of NAVA I've run around and never really get to stop and TALK to people. That's what I personally miss from the "old" NAVA days.

Though I still have such a blast at these things. To party like this once a month? Pinch me.

OH YEAH! Pictures and video are now online. You don't wanna miss!
