I know people usually do a lot of best of posts. This may have been done but...what are the top five worst games on Wii? Why are they horrid?

I heard Far Cry Vengeance for Wii is pretty bad, although I have never played it.

Stay FAAAAAAAR away from the remake of Alien Syndrome.

Repetitive and downright boring. And they don't even include the arcade game as an unlockble.

This has already been discussed in this thread. Rob2600 went through and got the ranking of the best and worst Wii games based on thier review scores form various sites.

Anyway, Red Steel was okay until later in the game where you have to sword fight a lot of ninjas. It requires really precise timing that the controls don't allow. They really needed some sort of mid-level saves in that game.

I'll agree about Alien Syndrome. I got bored with it after the first level. The PS2 remake on Sega Classics Collection was much better.

Far Cry is okay, but it's quite obvious it was rushed in order to be a launch title. The controls get really janky once you enter the predator mode, and there are some parts that seem to confuse cheapness (sticking snipers in almost impossible to see places) with increasing the difficulty.

I'd throw in Blazing Angels. The controls are so poor that I can't get past the training level. I'd put in Need for Speed Carbon for the same reason. They're a little more manageable, but once you get past the first few races, it becomes really unwieldy.

Now, I may not have the Wii, but just by looking at Metacritic, here are the three worst Wii titles. I have to agree that all of these games are especially bad:

Anubis II: Score: 19/100 (overall)

GameSpot
Anubis II is one of the worst games ever created and fundamentally broken. If you play it, you can never get back the three hours you wasted on this unique brand of torture.

Jenga: World Tour: 27 (overall)

Game Informer
Whatever strange, mirror universe insanity might lead you to play a video game version of Jenga rather than the real thing, you are unlikely to advance past the first few games.

Looney Toons: Acme Arsenal: 27 (overall)

1UP
There's simply nothing redeeming about Acme Arsenal. It's an incredibly poor, woefully unentertaining use of a great license, and an absolute bore to play. It doesn't get nearly enough right to be anywhere close to average, and becomes its own worst enemy with a cavalcade of embarrassing glitches.

Not only do you have these three games, but the rest of the worst Wii games are the vast amounts of shovelware on the system. Titles like "Dave Mirra BMX Challenge", "Chicken Shoot", "Kawasaki Quad Bikes", and everything from Destineer, Conspiracy Entertainment, and DDS are absolute crap. I know some Nintendo fans love to back up that the Wii does have some great games (and I admit, there are some spectacular games out there), but in order to find those great games you have to sift through all the crappy ones first! It's like there's more bad games coming out than good ones. The main thing that is keeping me from getting a Wii is the fact that the system's good games are few and far between. Well, that and the system is nearly impossible to find in my area, even though it has been a whole year since the system launched. I have never played any of these shovelware games, but given the fact that the games above got such poor reviews from sites like IGN, etc., I know for a fact that they are among the worst.

I've learned not to go by what others say. Everyone said farcry was horrible but my mom bought it for me for christmas (she thought it was a zapper game) and I like it. But yes Escape from bug island is pretty bad.

MySims is decent and got a bit of play here. I know that any game that's in the checkout line of Best Buy is usually on the crap list, and there was a whole pile of titles I hadn't heard of (Spy Games, Billy and the Broomstick or something).

That made me laugh so hard!

But, on the topic at hand, I've only bought Lego Star Wars, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, Metal Slug Anthology, and Zelda, and I only really hated Super Paper Mario. I was expecting something like the original Mario and was disappointed.

I own Red Steel also. I didnt think it was that bad even though the controls were a bit out of whack. It was fun as a shooter on the Wii. I also enjoy the voice acting...

Most negative reviews of Red Steel point to the controls, specifcally the sword fighting.

Like I said before, I don't think it's a horrible game - I like the graphic style of the game and the gun fighting is pretty solid for the most part. But the sword fighting on the later levels requires such precise timing that I don't think the controls allow.

It wouldn't be so bad if you could save mid-level so you could practice the tricky bits, but having to start at the beginning of the level every time you start a save is just a dipshit design decision IMO.

I didm't have any trouble playing the sword fighting in Red Steel. Even in the later levels. Although, I didn't think it was that great. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. It was just kind of mediocre. I would have rather just seen a port of DooM or Quake using the Wii's controls to be honest.

What ever happened to Nintendo's Seal of Approval? Didn't it used to state that the game measured up to some sort of standard by Nintendo? Is it just me or haven't they decreased the wording on their quality seal on the games? Maybe they should re-enforce it a little better?

Neil Koch
01-08-2008, 08:32 AM
IIRC, the Seal of Quality was about the manufacturing of the media, not the actual content.

I don't think they've used it since the SNES days, anyway (might be wrong on that though).

Also, I don't think the Wii has many more crappy games than any other system. It's just that people tend ot notice them more because there's fewer titles on it. I would say systems like the PS2 have a much higher crap-to-good ratio, especially with the flood of lousy budget titles hitting towards the end of its' life cycle.

I think it may have been my expectations, but mostly, I found that the cinematics were terrible, uninspired and unskippable in places, the game's difficulty was waayy too low, and the sword fighting (the reason I bought the damn thing in the first place, hoping for some hot sword fighting awesomeness) was like sitting down to what you're sure must be a nice hot ruben, with nice fatty corned beef and a zesty russian dessing... true fun on a bun, and as you bite into it, you realize that it's actually a horrible mouthful of wino hobo shit on a bun made out of maggots.

again, your mileage may vary.

I liked the Max Payne style of the cinema screens, but the plot is something straight out of a bad Van Damme movie.

And I _really_ don't get why designers are still making games with cutscenes you can't skip, especially after the first time you play it. Even on games with good cutscenes, it's damn annoying.

I went over to gamestop.com to see a list of recently released games and to see what is comming up within' the next couple months. If you looks at the wii section. A lot of the new releases are all comming out at $20 brand new. All games I have not heard of at all. Its like they were trying to rush out a bunch of budget titles for little kids to get for x-mas.

I don't get why this game is blasted so much. The last guy is a bitch and the zooming on the guns was only helpful in limited circumstances (sniper rifle excluded) but it sure beat the hell out of Rayman which is a top 25 game right now IMHO (props to Rob2600).

For sword fighting dodging was a little weak, but the combos did make you follow the pattern.

I did buy the game for $8, so even hobo shit sandwich wouldn't be that bad at that price point.

Neil Koch
01-08-2008, 04:00 PM
Yeah, it's not a great game, but on the scale of all-time worst games, it's not even really close. Maybe it was a matter of the pre-release hype?

What ever happened to Nintendo's Seal of Approval? Didn't it used to state that the game measured up to some sort of standard by Nintendo?

The official seal signified that a game was officially licensed by Nintendo and that it passed its censors. If the seal actually represented quality, Pit-Fighter for the SNES wouldn't exist.

We're discussing Red Steel, right? If so, it received a 6.3 overall, which means it's an average game. However, there have been "average" games that I've really enjoyed, like Smarty Pants. It received a 6.6 overall, and I think it's fun. What do reviewers expect for a decently-priced trivia game?

Haven't played it, but judgeing by the cover art and title Chicken Shoot should be terrible.

It's a shame were getting floored by wierd and/or terrible budget crap.

It's not all bad, but it's not all good by any means either.

Please tell me one system where the mediocre games don't outnumber the good ones. One system. Any system. Because I know that holds true for Xbox, PS1, 2, and 3, Gamecube, N64, GBA, whatever. Of course there are always going to be games that aren't very good. Nobody's forcing you to buy them. It's like saying, I'm not going to watch movies anymore, because even though there are good movies out there, I don't want to pick them out from the bad ones.

Of the Wii games that I own, Rampage is the worst. I haven't played Jenga or Ninjabread Man, or any of these other games, but I can at least tell people not to get Rampage.

They tried too hard to impliment the Wii controls on a game that wasn't designed with Wii controls in mind. Control is worst aspect of the game. I wasn't that thrilled with the other parts of the game, but even if you enjoyed the Gamecube game, I'd say definitely stick with that version.

At least with all of the budget titles coming out and the unknowns maybe we'll find a few cult/sleeper hits in the lot...eventually.
