Just curious what the most outrageous prices you've seen for consoles/games/whatever game related used stuff. I went to my local cash converters today and saw NES that looked FILTHY and no way they would work for $50.00 each. I laughed pretty hard.

There is a flea market that sells Chrono Trigger, Contra III, Ogre Battle, Super Double Dragon, New Horizons, and Final Fantasy III for $64 a piece.

$64 for chrono trigger isnt outrageous i see it go in that range on ebay every day, not that there isnt the occasional better deal on it around the $30 mark.
Oh come on guys you think that's bad :D.
In here they sell snes games for around 90 dollars and you're lucky if you get a box, let alone manual. Usually they're in beat up condition too.
I bough my NES for 90 dollars. It was the cheapest I could find, I swear and SNES is even more expensive. Every loose nes game goes for at least 30 dollars, not any cheaper (I got a complete Journey to Silius for that price though, which was a miracle). Usually loose NES carts can go up to 60 dollars even.

I know where I can go right now and pay $179 (no kidding, the box is marked with a price tag as such) for an incomplete, boxed Donkey Kong Country (SNES). The same lady has a complete or incomplete (never bothered to ask or look) Super Metroid in the same display case for $349. Again, I'm not kidding and I'm tempted to go back just to take pictures of the boxes and their price tags. She said that the games were very limited and hard to find...geesh.

If its at a flea market, its supposed to be at a flea market price. $60+ is ebay price, and the reason we go to flea markets is so we don't have to pay that much.

Prices aren't that bad around here unless its gold or a common series eg mario, metroid, tmnt etc.. Anything like that is over $35.

Why yes, yes we have. And I'm a bit upset because the Cash Converters around the corner from my work closed up shop while I was out of town! My gold mine is gone and really hope they just moved, luckily though there's another location about 4 miles in the opposite direction if they've closed for good over here.
But anyhow, there's only one place around here I know of that is over-priced and have seen the owner buying at other stores just to resell higher at hers. Also you frequenty see eBay boxes in a few of her locations where she's done bulk buys and still resells a bit more than "current" eBay final bids plus their shipping. I rarely go into her place because of this.

There is a pawn shop in my area that had a N64 console with NO controller, NO power adaptor, NO A/V cable, even the jumper pack was missing. They were asking $39.99. Sad thing is, next time I went back there, it was gone.

you should buy a copy of super metroid and take it to her and see what she would give you for it.
or buy a whole load of them and take them to her and see what she would say. i know a guy that would buy a copy and take it to her and break his "super limited and hard to find super metroid" in front of her just for a laugh.

It is my opinion that if there were no repeat threads, there would be no Digital Press forum... or any other forum, for that matter. Certainly not one worth visiting anyway.
The worst over-pricing I've seen is mostly on craigslist. 200 bucks for an NES because they are collectible and OMG HTF these days. The other specific example was a new Play N Trade that I stopped at a couple months back that wanted $30 for SMB3, and they had 4 or 5 copies.

Please go take a picture. That would be my post of the year. Tell me its peso.
That would peobably make a gaming mag picture of the week:)
I have seen at one pawn shop selling lossed scratched and dirty psx games for 30.00.
I have found pawn shops becoming more crafty trying to survive. They get games they think are rare or new or near new now they through them on ebay. it is almost like a seperate full time business within a business.
I am finding the days of inteeligent qube 5.00 Harder to come by.

One day in 2004, I decided to check out a pawn shop I hadn't been to before. I knew it was a bad sign when the first thing I saw was a few small stacks of SNES sports games, none lower than $10. But then I see a complete N64 game...
It's an obviously resealed copy of Xena: Warrior Princess. The box looked a little beat up. It's marked $64.99. And it was one of their price tags, not some K-Mart sticker on the box or whatever.
So I checked quickly to make sure there wasn't something that was actually worth their crazy prices, then I got the hell out of dodge.

I've talked to the lady on a few ocassions and she is very nice and polite. She knows very little of games (obviously) and she told me that a couple of years ago she had a dream/vision in which her God asked her to sell video games. So now she sells them in the flea mall that she and her husband operate. I'm not making this up. I have bought some games from her in the past which were good deals, it's just a few are out of this world crazy like the above. She has also told me that Galaga for the NES or Atari, I can't recall which (just a normal copy that would typically sell for a few dollars) is worth $2500. And guess what? She has a copy that she will sell! Bizarre lady.

This is obviously off-topic but I agree. There are a few forums I visit that have very strict topic consolidation rules and it is usually pure misery. You have threads hundreds of pages long, full of duplicate info, etc.

Contra III cart only for $38. I mean, you could easily find a copy, at that time, online for $15, $10 or so with some patience. $38 was a joke. I almost laughed at the vendor, but it's not in my nature to do so, unless it's absolutely ridiculous
Bought SNES & NES carts for very good used prices from a local thrift store. I guess they figured I was getting too sweet a deal at $3 a piece so they ended up raising the prices about $4 more and started selling old dusty consoles for outrageous prices($50 SNES, $70 NES...). The worst experience I have had however, was with a pawn shop that sold n64 games for almost as much as some new ps2 games, $15, $20, INSANE!, and these were dime-a-dozen crap games too.!

I still have not found a reliable place to buy N64 games cheaply. My favorite flea market sells NES, Genesis, and SNES games about 4-6 a piece, but N64 titles are always $25. But I love the place, they aget the craziest shit from time to time. Found an Eternal Arcadia import for $3 in there once.

One of the pawnshops around here has a SMS trackball for $300. I asked them if they were serious, and they thought I was joking.
I then offered to sell them 10 trackballs at half that.
They are still trying to sell the one for $300.

A sega dreamcast for $110 in 2003. I think it came with all the hookups, 2 controllers, A few VMUs and zero games.
And the bare bones N64 for $15 a few weeks ago.. It had the jumper pack, though..
Oh, And the $100 Atari 2600. At least it came with lots of games and all the hookups.

$40 for Tetris plus on Saturn. She had games like Dragon Force and many others at one point too cheap (before I got into collecting) then somebody told her she could sell some of those titles for as much as $50. Now all the Saturn titles are between $35 and $50 reguardless of what the game is. Obviously they have been sitting there for the past 3 years.

I found a 2600 for $75 once. Came with 5 games and hookups. All 5 were 1-2 on the rarity scale. Never went to that flea market again.

I know quite a few places in my area that overprice a lot of the older consoles, their accessories, and games. I recently walked into an older shop where this guy had shut down for about 3 or 4 years. It turns out that he has a bunch of old nes, snes, n64, gb, sega genesis, sega saturn, dreamcast, ps1, games, accessories, and consoles still in boxes. I was amazed by what he had in their. Just like most people on this site, he is a collector first. He didn't want to nickle and dime and sell me a couple of his SNES games. He wanted me to buy an entire system at $70 and go from their.
Another place in town wants $40-50 for games like Mario World, Mario Kart, etc. Also SNES consoles went for $75 and they were beat to hell.
The only place where I can possibly get any good deals is at the flea market. Usually n64 games are 5-10, except the extremely rare Mario titles.:shameful: SNES titles are 5-10 but limited and NES, SNES, Sega, N64 consoles can range from $10-45 depending on condition.

My friend went to a pawn shop in New Orleans about a year ago. They had Superman 64 there for $34, cart only. When he showed me the picture I just had to laugh.
But if I went the place where the lady was selling super metroid for $349, I would definitely go there with a copy to sell.

My Local Cash Converters LOVE Mario. They like selling Super Mario World Cart only for $39, Stunt Race FX for $39, a bare bones SNES system for $89. I asked them why they were so expensive and all I got was "Mario Games are rare" Then they go and price games like Fatal Fury 2 special and Secret of Evermore for $10 :/

Man, where do I begin?...
There is a local chain in my area, Cincinnati, called Game City. To their credit, they're one of the few stores left in the area that still sell pre-PS2 games, but their prices are downright retarded. One of the locations is actually owned by a couple of friends of mine, and I try to help them out here and there, telling them what stuff is actually worth, but it just doesn't seem to matter. They know very little about older games, all they really know is new stuff, mostly Xbox.
I had to tell them that NES Mario games won't sell when you price them at $30. Or $20. It's gotten so bad that I rarely try anymore, 'cuz I don't want to be that jerk that keeps coming in and telling them to lower their prices. Super Mario Kart, $30. Kirby Superstar, $45. Kid Icarus, $50! I did get them to lower that one, at least, to $25. Oh, and let's not forget all the Atari/Coleco games at no lower than $3, many higher than that, some at $20.
It makes me sad, 'cuz that place could be so great if not for the prices. I know other collectors who refuse to even go into a Game City store just because of their insane pricing.
As for pawns, all the ones I've ever been to tend to price their games according to system. For example, all NES are $5, SNES are $10, N64 are $15, PSX are $12, PS2 and up are $20. Great if you find a copy of Suikoden II, bad if you're looking to pad the collection with some cheap sports games.
Now for fleas, it seems to me like most flea vendors around here know what stuff is worth, 'cuz I rarely find good deals there. I think they all check eBay now.

Theres another pawn shop near me that sells all SNES games $10 a piece or two for $15. Even sports games. But once in awhile they really have some nice stuff. I picked up soldier of fortune, EVO:Search for Eden, Tetris Attack, and Sim Ant for $30 a few weeks ago. PSX games are way over priced at 15 bucks each though. Local Cash Converters USED to be GREAT but the prices really started sky rocketing. I picked up A complete FF: Tactics before the GH reissue for $5, a complete Suikoden II for $5, A complete Shining Force on Genesis for $3...now I'm lucky to see any sports game under 5-10 bucks on ANY system :|

140$ for an Amiga CD32 at a local cashies, its in fairly bad shape, the logo sticker thingies peeling. I think they also used to have Nes toaster controllers for 5... i went to pick one up, and it was 25$. Also they seem to TRY to sell ANY nes game for 55$ loose ... WTF? Commons like SMBs, Zeldas.. i didnt see what else, but i dont think i wanted too.
Actually the NES stuff is probably the most ridic.
Edit: Btw this is in Australia $, hence my Location. Its still completely bonkers.
Oh and psycho candy, you think 15$ for a PSX game is way overpriced???
and 10 for a snes game or 15 for two.. huuhh? Those are quite reasonable prices, and if not reasonable, they sure as hell aren't outrageous overpricing.

I dunno if I wanna count this, but before I bought my Wii I had a co-worker try to sell me one for 400 bucks. lmao. 15 for a psx game, and 10 for a snes game around here is over priced. I buy most of my, well hell anything before playstation, games for under five bucks at local pawn shops. I don't think I've spent over 10 dollars on a psx game in a few years.
