The only part of this that has me really excited is the idea of the 2 Banjo Kazooie games on XBLA.

Seriously, I need something to tide me over until I get more info on the new Banjo Kazooie game.

So are they going to do some kind of remake of this? I'm asking because I kind of doubt Nintendo would allow a rival console to emulate one of their machines.

In the article it says it'll have updated graphics, so it sounds like it'll be more of a remake than an emulated version. Hopefully they don't screw it up.

Wow, this is awesome news. Let's just hope the only thing that's changed are the graphics.

It won't be the same unless it features 4-player splitscreen.

Dammit, I still want it on the Wii Virtual Console. It's still awesome, but I hope they don't screw with it too much.

Also, If Perfect Dark comes to XBL, I wonder if Miyamoto will still be one of the faces you can choose for your deathmatch characters.

Hmmmm....

"Rare" as we know them (or even as we knew them back in the days of Perfect Dark for N64) had less to do with Goldeneye64 than I'd like to admit.

If Free Radical and/or David Doak aren't involved with the porting/updating, I'm not going to get my hopes up ... as they were the people primarily responsible for the way Goldeneye64 ran so damned awesome considering the limitations of the N64.

If they ARE involved with this. I'll be there on day friggin' one!!!

This is really awesome news, even though I still don't have a 360. Online multiplayer and possibly updated graphics? Badass. I played this game nonstop, during my college days. I would also love to see perfect dark come to Xbox live- as I'll eventually buy a 360. I think Bond had a great 1st person campaign, but Perfect Dark took an awesome multiplayer from Goldeneye, and made it that much better.

Yea I would prefer it on the Wii, but now that I have a 360, its all good. I just hope they dont mess with it too much.

I hope it's true, and that it's an updated port. Seriously I love this game to death but I can't play it anymore. Updated textures/framerate and live/achievements is just what this game needs! :O

Now lets just hope there isn't an achievement for beating the entire game on 00 Agent. I don't want to do that again. >_>

You know, I'd completely forgotten about that. Free Radical being made up of ex Rare employees. Man, I did enjoy the TimeSplitters games and GoldenEye 007 was instant win on the N64. I'm just hoping the porting goes well. You'd think porting a game like Pac-Man on XLA would be child's play but whoever did the job on that one somehow managed to screw it up royally. Here's to hoping GoldenEye doesn't share a similar fate.

Many people have been predicting/praying for this ever since XBLA first came out (well more like once they started showing actual 3d games on the arcade). If this comes out with online deathmatch with some kind of ranking/stats (or even without) I will be hooked for a long time! Oh how sweet it will be to replay Complex for hours on end...

I've got some Good news, and bad news.....

Good news first: Goldeneye has been confirmed.

Bad news - it's stuck in licensing limbo between MS and Nintendo.

It's hard to believe the game got this far in development before licensing issues were ironed out.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble but in this month's issue of EGM they address this as a rumor that most likely won't come true.

sorry

Its probably for the best anyway, guys... Having played this recently, I can tell you it hasn't aged well. At all.

I'm all for nostalgia, but only when the gameplay is still good.

I'd say they'd be nice with cleaned up graphics and a nice dual joystick control scheme. I wonder if the big N wanted to release these on VC? I also wonder if It would not be a problem with different graphics?

I played this with some friends last year and I agree with you but this wouldn't be a direct port it would be updated so I think it would be good if it ever comes out.

I never owned the game myself, always mooched. I am a big fan of the 007 games, and despite playing it for 100s of hours in multiplayer, I never played single player hardly at all. Recently, I finally got around to getting Goldeneye myself, and have been playing the single player the last couple days. Its still a heck of a lot of fun. The game is amazingly smooth and easy to play. The EA "The World Is Not Enough" N64 game had much better graphics and missions, not to mention voice actors, but this is still fun.

One issue I've always had with most N64 games is the sharpness of the video. Maybe it's me, I don't know? If I go back to play the 8- or 16-bits and the newer gens, I don't have a problem. But the N64 games it takes me a while to get readjusted to them visually. Usually the Mario or Expansion Pak games look fine. Which is why I was waiting for an N64 emulator for Windows, but they've never ran that well. That would be one thing I would hope the Virtual Console or XBLA (if this went through) is addressing.

Unfortunate news but given the size of the user base on both system's networks, it would have made sense to emulate it on both. A truly stupid business decision from two companies notorious for corporate bully tactics. When Virtual Console was first announced, almost immediately the most frequent game I saw being mentioned was Goldeneye. Everybody wanted to play Goldeneye, and now it seems no one will.

No just because it won't have Xbox Live and I am a believer that Live really makes a lot of games better.

The World Is not Enough was released in October 2000, over three years after Goldeneye 007, so it should look better! Also, it was developed by Eurocom, which was a pretty good development team on the N64 (Mortal Kombat 4, Cruis'n World, Hydro Thunder, Duke Nukem: Zero Hour, etc.). The framerate is quite good too, even in high-resolution mode.

If you want to see even more impressive graphics, play Turok 2: Seeds of Evil or Perfect Dark, both in high-res mode. The framerates are pretty choppy at times, but the textures and lighting effects were ahead of anything else on consoles at the time.

Expansion Pak games look sharper because most of them run in high-res mode. Regarding the Wii Virtual Console, according to reviews I've read, Nintendo 64 games look sharper than they do on the original console because Nintendo upgraded them to progressive scan now. When I eventually buy an HDTV several years from now, I'll get to see what that's like.

"Delayed indefinitely" =/= "cancelled"

With that said.....

There's no chance that GoldenEye will be released for either the X360 or the Wii. You really think Nintendo will let a game that has acheived legendary status on one of their consoles go to another competitors console? No fucking chance in hell.

And MicroSoft, the new owners of RareWare, will want GoldenEye to themselves and not share it with anyone. So we have your classic Mexican standoff with no resolution in sight.

As for the petition, it is a good gesture but also irrevelant. When it comes to money and ego we have no say regardless of how loud the voice. One could go up to Nintendo with five million signatures but all they would do is just chuck it in the trash and laugh and tell you to get out of their parking lot.

If there is a glimmer of hope in all of this it may come from the owners of the james Bond property. After all, this is a game based on their movie and characters and they will likely have a say in all of this (since they stand to make good money in the reissue). But I still think they won't budge Nintendo (whom I think is the real villian here).

However, despite the bad news, we can still look forward to a reissue of the original "Perfect Dark". I can't wait to play it with a decent frame rate.....

A video of this "remake" has been released:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXWls4S_qu8

Seeing that and knowing it may never release makes me want to cry. The video itself almost brings a tear to my eye though (despite the out-of-synch audio and the obvious bugs that are present.)
