Awesome. Simply awsome.

And Namco's tradition of putting worthless joke (Kuma, Panda, Mokujin), and broken (Link, Spawn, Heihachi) characters continues.

And people wonder why I've been playing Virtua Fighter for 12 years now, and utterly hate Namco fighters. This is a perfect example.

Okay, I may have to finally upgrade from the original on Dreamcast...

Added comedic effect? I have no idea.

I don't know how I feel about this yet. I LOVE Star Wars and I love Soul Calibur but watching the trailer for this it just seemed waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of place and kind of cheezy. I do hope it turns out well though. It's sucks that PS3 is getting Vader and 360 is getting Yoda.

...looks at calender.

it's not april yet.

Still namco just sold 2 copies of SC IV to me...if the wii one gets jar jar, then 3 copies.

How the hell do you block a lightsaber?

Very, carefully carefully young Skywalker...

As for PS3 getting Vader, Vader = dark black and shiny.

As for Yoda on XBOX 360... Yoda = greenish with red rings around eyes...

C'mon...seriously? I'll give you Spawn, he sucked, but I actually thought Kuma and Panda were pretty good. Link was fun to play with and Heihachi was/is one of my favorites from Tekken (by broken you mean too good, right?). Mokujin was like Tekken's version of Shang Tsung IIRC, only it was entirely random what character he was emulating each round. If you're proficient with all the characters though, that could be fun.

I like Virtua Fighter's characters, but I always found the gameplay to be slow and clunky compared to Tekken's. That's why I played Tekken and not VF.

At least it is Adult Vader and not the whiny dork younger one.

I'm a mild fighting game fan (read: I appreciate Capcom and SNK's character designs more than their fighting games generally), but this is pretty cool news. The only thing they need to do to ensure that people don't bitch their tongues out over it is to make sure these two don't pop up in arcade mode or whatever, or maybe have a setting in the options. Either way, cool collaboration.

Comic book guy not withstanding, this is pretty lame news. I mean free character and all, rah rah, but come on... Star Wars?

I'll be the first to admit here that I thought Spawn was a pretty awesome character, at least to play as (Cervantes/Rock hybrid). And Link and Heihachi both fit in pretty well with the Soul Caliber universe (Link is debatable). It would have been cooler if Namco to reach into their large IP cache and come up with more inspired choices (Rick Taylor from Splatterhouse would be entirely badass) or worked with the parent companies for their IPs similiar to SCII (Joanna Dark, Arbiter, Kratos, Rau).

I could just be biased because I absolutely HATE the muppet on crank that Lucas decided to use in Episode II & III. I thought it would have been infinitely more bad ass if Yoda's swordmanship came from "force wielding" the blades instead of making him flip around like a retarded spider monkey. So just knowing I'll be seeing a ton of his green ass on XBLA puts a really bad taste in my mouth.

Darth is cool I suppose but, again, he's tainted by the craptastic prequel trilogy.

Regardless, I'll still be up for kicking their asses with my Cervantes, Sophitia, and Voldo.

I for one think it's great when a company makes a continuing habit with a running series of throwing logic and overall cohesiveness to the wind in order to appeal to our immediate nerdgasm reflex. What's in store for SC5 -- Harry Potter characters? Fingers crossed!

Also anyone who disagrees with me or is critical of this move in any way is automatically the Comic Book Guy.

I heard SCVI will include Captain Kirk and Captain Picard as hidden characters.

Do you remember what happened last time Star Wars characters appeared in a fighting game?

I hate to admit it, but if they made a Star Wars vs Star Trek fighting game, I'd buy it. Kirk vs. Luke would be epic.

As for SCIV... this is really out of left field.... someone at Namco must be a HUGE Star Wars fan to go through the rigmarole of getting the rights to put these characters in the game in the first place.

Boo-urns.

I was planning on picking up the 360 version for friends matches over XBL...but now 360 gets Yoda instead of Darth Vader? Hmmm.

I say they should just remake Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi and be done with it.

Well I figured that. What I meant was that you can't fight Yoda vs Vader in either game.

I agree with Studvicious, Yoda vs. Vader is something that I always wanted to see and now I can't even see it in a video game.

Pretty cool news. I am planning on getting a PS3 rather than an XBOX 360, so this is good news, as I prefer Vader anyway :D

yoda could be kick ass. Regardless imo soul calibur for dc is still the best game in the series. SC3 was sorta a dissappointment

This is pretty cool. all you you guys complaining about bonus characters are dumb and just looking to complain

though i'd rather have indiana jones

Well, doesn't this just suck. Looks like Sony's getting the pick of the litter this time around. I mean, I'm sure it'd be fun to play around as Yoda, but being able to fight as Vader is what would get me to buy the game.

I'm really disappointed that they decided to put Darth Vader in the PS3 version.

The game is still going to be fun though.

Nice way to reenergize the series. Darth is much more appealing to me than Link. The scene where he fires up the sword and starts walking is the money shot.

Read this link guys: http://www.gameinformer.com/NR/exeres/6ec8b54f-56d1-4232-80a4-743d16f22bc2.htm. Now tell me who got the better Star Wars character. The PS3 with Darth Vader or The XBox 360 with Yoda? This is one of the few times I'm going to have to go with the PS3. What do you guys/girls think?

Bojay1997
01-12-2008, 05:12 PM
I would go with neither. This is the dumbest cross-over ever. These characters have nothing to do with what is now a well-established series and it's just a deliberate attempt to squeeze one last drop out of the Star Wars franchise that has already been dragged through the mud by a string of low quality video games. I know they did this in an earlier Soul Caliber game with Link, Spawn and other characters, but in my opinion it really detracts from the fun of what is otherwise a top quality fighter.

Cool, but Yoda and Vader look out of place in SCIV. However, and I'm probably the only person who thinks this, but there are some .hack characters who would fit in a lot better than Star Wars characters.

I'd have to say im more excited about this than any other pair up...well..except maybe link on the gamecube...but yeah...this will be sweet, looking forward to seeing Yoda jump all over like a bouncy ball and light up someones rear
