Has anyone played Omega Five? If so, how is it? Is it worth my 800 play monies?

Beautiful game. No online co-op though which would be very awesome. (there is local co-op) It's a little on the difficult side, but not impossible. In my opinion, it's one of the few games actually worth the 800 points.

I love it, personally.

It's about time XBLA got a good side-scrolling shooter.

I really like it. Sort of a modern Forgotten Worlds with a dual stick layout. Tough, but not insanely so...each time I've played it I've made more and more progress, plus the characters have very different weapons/styles (and 2 more to unlock, apparently). Well worth the $10 I think!

I like it alot. Worth the 800 points especially if you like the genre. Kinda short though but I guess that's what you get for 10 bucks.

Back to the top, this game deserves more attention (read: praise).

I beat it for the first time today with Ruby, and I've gotta say that this has some of the best replay value of any of the offline XBLA games outside of Pac Man: Championship Edition. I plan on at least unlocking all of the characters if not going for the 'no continues' achievements, even though I'm not a 100% achievements kind of guy (as my gamerscore will attest).

It's amazing the reception this is getting from "pro" reviewers, especially 1up, who gave it a 4. Wow. The guy basically bitches that it's "too hardcore for its own good." Yeah, maybe if you played for 30 minutes and called it quits, but after I'd say even an hour of gametime (particularly after discovering each character's ability, like Ruby's grapple) you should be able to at least whiz through the first level with no continues. In fact, I'd say it's rather easy compared to most shmups I've played. The third boss is sort of a bitch until you figure out not only its patterns, but where you need to go to not get hit by falling debris, and the fourth boss isn't so bad once you figure out that you can shoot the giant spheres to keep the asteroids at bay during the last half of the battle's 'giant debris free-for-all.'

All things considered, this stands right up there with Assault Heroes and Pac Man: Championship Edition as the cream of the crop of XBLA originals.

Definitely a must have for Live Arcade. As other have said, the graphics are stunning. I don't know how this was crammed into 47 megs. The second level is by far the best looking thing on the Arcade.

Characters are incredibly varied in their styles. For those having trouble, keep playing. You'll slowly unlock additional continues.

It's definitely a case of replaying until you know the layouts of the levels, and slowly you'll find yourself running through without getting hit. The soundtrack is more than filler as well.

Omega Five is another really good one for Live Arcade. It manages to toss in some omni-shooterness without being an omni-shooter (which has become a tired genre on Live Arcade).

It's also one you really need to give a chance by playing for a while. The first level sucks really bad. And that's doubly sad because the game doesn't have that many levels, and the learning curve is steep enough you'll be seeing that first level a LOT. But once you get a little further into the game and start to puzzle out the little novelties other than shooting in all directions, things pick up and become much more interesting.

I definitely find it worth $10. It's not the greatest Live Arcade game ever, but it definitely ranks among others which I find solidly entertaining.

The third boss is sort of a bitch

If I do die during the game, it's usually during the fight with this dude. He is a pain in the ass. I'm starting to figure it out though.

My "figure it out" phase basically consists of "feed him two continues" :D.

The trick I've found is to get on the underside when he's spinning and mind when the middle opens up so you can switch sides as needed. Also, the ultimate burst (or whatever it's called) is awesome when he's upside down and the debris starts swarming at your feet, as you can stay focused on shooting him and draining his life with Ruby's grapple.

What do you expect out of a $10 game? If I had paid $60 for this, I would certainly be pissed at how short it is, but as it stands, it's got replay value and is a lot of fun for a casual shmup fan like myself. I remember paying $30 or so for Cannon Spike on the DC and wasn't disappointed in that, granted it is a bit longer and somewhat different, but they're still in the same loose genre/style I'd say.

Of course, the heaps of praise may be due to comaprison with the kind of crap they usually release on XBLA and the PSN, which is certainly a possibility.

Loved the demo, couldn't wait for the full game and now that I've got it... I expected better.

To be honest, I was totally drawn in by the Forgotten Worlds control scheme. I LOVE that game. From the demo, I expected this PLUS co-op online play. As it turns out, there is NO online co-op play, which is simply inexcusable. After extensive solo gaming I also feel that my character is too big on the playfield, leading to stupid hits that should be avoided (am I the only person who thinks "in REAL LIFE, I would have avoided that" in a 2D game?). Truthfully, if I could get my ten bucks back, I'd do it. Without an online buddy it's just not worth it for me.

So I'm back to sitting around waiting for Aegis Wing players!
