Yeah me too. Hopefully EvanG will get his SNES site back up and running. Haven't heard from him in a while.

domain registration expired first of the year and the guy who supposedly runs the site is no where to be found.

you can still get to it through its ip http://69.50.240.226/

granted (as far as i know) you cant get to the craptastic forums or their mail system but we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I've been on Bemaniso for a while and never even heard of this site until now. Apparently it's run by the same guys that run that place. Looks good. Too bad I can't register though.

Seriously?

I've heard of EdgeEmu since I first started getting involved in emulation - 1999 or so. o_o;;

EdgeEmu did serve as a decent ROM repository for years before torrent sites like Underground-Gamer became popular and superceded (albeit not remotely replacing) the older web-hosted model. I do hope they bring the domain back up soon at any rate.

The only game torrent sites I ever used were Blackcats and Underground-Gamer. They pretty much have everything I could ever want, so I never had to search around for another torrent site.

Looks like a edgeemu replacement is already up. Still a work in progress though:

It is pretty disappointing for me that edgeemu is gone, but we haven't heard from Paul in months. The edgeemu server has been full since the start of October, and he was the only one who could remedy the situation. I am not really in a position to set up a new host right now, but I put up a mirror some time ago:

Edgeemu has been great to host my server for the past few years, and they will be missed for their role in the emulation scene over the past decade. Like Cherryroms and pe2000 before it, rom sites just do not stand the test of time.

Send me a PM, maybe I can help you out some ;)

Edit: Sending you one now

Seems I was a bit premature. Edgeemu still exists, it is just that the DNS isn't updating properly.

Everything should be back to normal soon enough.

All too true. Damn to I miss Lugnut and CinC's NES repository and Spirit in the Contraption.

Yeah, edgeemu stills exists, but the ROMs aren't working, and I'm really beginning to wonder whether or not they're really gonna get it back up, considering there hadn't even been a news update in over 6 months. I was a regular donor on their site and it would suck really bad if they just abandoned it.

I really hope they come back up though. Underground-gamer can be a pain to get in, considering they're full constantly and you got everybody and their mother trying to get referred in.

ROM sites really don't last. I loved Cherryroms back in the day, and I also had this German site called Rom Reactor that was the king of them all. They had like 40000 roms just between Atari and C64. I also got stuff that's hard to find anywhere else like SG-1000 games. You can still find their domain on Google Search, but it redirects to usenext.de now, which is a web hosting service.

So, what about the e-mail? (If) it goes back up, will the old accounts still be on there? I had a couple e-mail accounts through that site...

I can vouch for this too. Nice site, horrible community (for the most part).

The ROM site I miss the most by far is mame.dk. I loved that site.

I miss davesclasics.com (now vg-network.com).

They had a good selection of ROMS before the IDSA threatened to shut 'em down, back in 1998.

whoever runs the site now let it all go to hell. Especailly with the 8 pop-ups that appear whenever you click on anything.

Sorry for the semi-bump, I noticed this thread while googling around for my site to see if it picked up anywhere.

Yeah, I started up pantsemulation.com when Edge|Emu kicked the bucket. Truth be known, the site's owner (Paul) let the domain registration lapse. He's been pretty flaky with being online anyway, so I suppose it's best the site died. I did all the work anyway, it was a pain in the ass to try to get him to do anything. One of the HDDs died and we lost a TON of ROMs I had uploaded, which sucked. It never got replaced, either.

I'm working on replacing the site though, with my own creation. While the layout is completely different, I'm doing the best I can to keep everything up to date. Hell, MAME just updated today and I already added all the ROMs and made notes of what's new and changed :)

I even have a near-full GBA set online, with the rest coming in the next couple days. I'll probably expand further into Dreamcast games soon, provided I can get another HDD added to the server. That will have to be once when I get more users though and a steady stream of donations.

As for Edge, the site is pretty much gone and probably won't ever return. The domain's going to go up for auction to the highest bidder at NetSol (I believe it's nearing $500 right now) and those who have an edgeemu.com email are pretty much SOL. It sucks.

sherl0k, I haven't heard of your site before, but it looks nice upon first glance. Very nice, simple layout, and not clogged up with ads either. I haven't tested the downloads, but I'll check it out later. Keep up the good work.

It's the only roms site I have ever encountered that had more than a handful of Philips CD-i iso's.

Well it seems the site is alive again, but at a slightly different address. :)

edgeemu, cherryroms, davesclassics, make.dk were all many of the first rom sites i went to when I first discovered video game emulation. Those were the days before torrents.

I recently tried to go to edgeemu and was sad to see it gone. I seldom went there, but they were a quick and easy portal to certain , er, files when I needed them. I think I paid for full access to that site, even. Hope I have the same access on any new site.

I've went to edgeemu from time to time, but I was a much bigger fan of emuasylum.
