I suggest:
Card Fighters Clash
SNK VS. Capcom Match of The Millenium
Both Metal Slugs
Samurai Shodown
King of Fighters R2
Fasilei(not exactly sure of the spelling)
Last Blade
Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move
I also enjoy Fatal Fury First Contact even though some don't.

I had given serious thought to picking up Card Fighters Clash as my first game...Judging from your list there's a very strong lineup of games to be had. Time for me to do some research. Thanks for the reply.
Faselei and Card Fighters are absolutely mandatory. I kind of wish I still had mine just to play some Faselei.

It's a quality handheld with lots of battery life, good purchase and choice to game on for the go. Since the system is regionless don't hold back on buying imports from Europe or Japan, just make sure if it's Japanese that little to no reading is required to understand the gameplay. Puzzles and fighters of course fall into this category so you may want to keep an eye out for the clamshell releases if you don't care for paper boxes. The only issue I have is yellow & orange and blue & purple look very similar without good lighting so keep that in mind while playing the puzzle games.
The CIB Japanese titles I would like to have:
Match of The Millenium
Puzzle Bobble (already own)
Metal Slug missions 1 & 2
Magical Drop
Neo Turf Masters
Dynamite Slugger
Cardfighter's Clash (own US Capcom edition)
There are some other US games I own too and of course you may have different tastes. Best bet is to really look through the official releases list and read up on what interests you. Inquiring to others experiences with the game is what'll push you into either holding off or making that purchase.

I used to have a complete U.S. set before a financial emergency begged me to part with it. There really isn't a bad game on the whole system as far as I'm concerned. It's probably the most solid line up any system has ever had, though it's small size helps it there. Really, pick up anything and I bet you'll have fun.

The Neo Geo Pocket is a fantastic handheld. When it first came out I held off on buying it because all the graphics were chibi-fied compared to their MVS/AES counterpart. It was just a bit of a shock to see all the SNK characters become SD. But it was SNK after all and I knew regardless, the games would play like a dream.
I finally bought one and have enjoyed it ever since. I am all but 5 games from completing the US set. Here are the games that got the most play on my NGP and my opinion on them;
Cardfighter’s Clash: SNK vs. Capcom
- FAR superior to the DS installment. All the references to each companies franchises and the finely tuned card battle system makes this game a must for fans.
SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium
- One of the best overall fighting games I have ever played. The amount of effort that went into this game is something missing from most current gen games. Lots of characters, stages, and unlockables. And if you get board of fighting you can try to unlock special moves in the training mode where you can DDR with Darkstalker’s Felicia, Grab treasure with Ghouls and Gosts’ Arthur and many other mini games.
Faselei!
- An incredible RPG/Strategy game from Sacnoth the creators of Koudelka and Shadow Hearts. From the opening cutscene complete with an actual song digitized onto that little cart, to the graphics, and the completely original battle system this game has no equal on any other system. Makes me wonder why they never continued this series on a home console?
Metal Slug 1 and 2 Mission
- They don’t look too much like their big brothers but they certainly hold their own. With Tons of stages and all kinds of vehicles to pilot and many weapons you will be entertained for quite some time.
Bust A Move Pocket
- All the fun of Bust A Move translated beautifully to the NGP.

Jesus, I didn't expect so many replies. Just goes to show that I made the right call when I picked it up today. Thanks to everyone for the obscene amount of advice and suggestions. I'll update the thread when I pick up another game I guess. Thanks again everyone!

While not typically not though of as a popular system, the NGPC has a good following considering its short life and small library, mainly due to its spectacular game lineup. Every few months a topic like this comes up on DP and there is always a big response. There are quite a few NGPC collectors around, myself included. I suggest you take a look at the topics Pingvin linked too for game suggestions, though don't stress over it too much as you could get almost any game and not be disappointed. In the end, you'll want to get most of the games anyway. ;)

I failed to mention that my system came with Sonic Pocket Adventure. It's actually pretty nice! I'm having a hard time with the alleged Debug code.... Oh well. Great game so far.

In all honesty you really can't go wrong with any of the 32 titles that made it to shelves here in America. Even the card game titles are good.

Sold mine last year cause of finalancial problems for a damn load of money, just started to collect it again, just won Neo Geo Cup '98 Plus B/W. And after getting also an extra Pachinko pocket Parlor Guide, I decided to restart collecting NGP.
Best game:
Puzzle Link 1/2 (much better puzzle game then Puzzle Bobble in my opinion)
Match of the Millenium (no doubt)
Card Fighters Clash 2 (expensive but worth the price, much more balanced then the first one and easy to play when you played the 1st one)
Picture Puzzle (Just like Picross on DS)
Games to avoid:
Pocket Casino Series
Aruze Pachinko series
Dive Alert

I don't have much of a collection for this system...Two NGPCs and around 17 or so games.
I take this system with me..(instead of a PSP or my DS.
Most kids have no clue what it is,...when they show me="I got a PSP"..look I'm cool.
I say,yea but you don't have this.:2gunfire:.Check out this system and they are like,"whoa!! where can I get that"....."hey Daddy/Mommy"

cardfighters is the best game for NGPC its like pokemon was for gameboy. Very addicting. Last blade and the other fighters are the best portable fighters out there and the joystick on the NGPC is the best damn joystick/control on a handheld ever. Throw in a quality (though not backlit) lcd and incredible batter life (freakin 40 hours man!) its a great system. I had a complete collection for a short while but circumstances made me part with it. Even the game boxes are cool :)
10 titles for NGpB&W, approx 80 titles worldwide for NGpC, it's possible to collect for this system pretty easy.

hahahahahaha
I take it you've actually not gone out and after many of those titles?
The B&W stuff is very hard (and expensive) to get ahold of. A handful of US games arn't easy to stumble across either, it only took me two years to get my last title. Looking for them boxed x3's the difficulty level. Same can easily be said of a portion of the UK titles. I don't know the Japanese stuff, but I can almost guarantee that its got its issues as well.

Now that's a spot-on analysis. QFT, my friend.

AFA the Japanese games, I don't think it's so hard. I think the harder-to-find WonderSwan games are quite a bit harder to find than the harder-to-find NGPC games. Some of the WS games i've never seen complete, and that's in 3 years or so of collecting. More often than not the NGPC games are complete here, even in junk shops.

Well, I got three B&W titles so far, and I'm missing 7, three of the missing titles are on ebay as we speak, ranging between $10 to $30. The other 3 missing pop up on ebay quite regular. The only hard to find title is B&W Neo Cup 98 plus.
As for the colour titles, i got 7 so far.
UK ebay is a very good place to look, usually between 25 to 50 titles on a good day. Cheap too. Also, many German online shops have plenty of NGpC supplies, eg: http://www.videogamer.de/show.php?neopocket+Neo_Geo_Pocket_Preisliste+on
Bit expensive yes, but availability plenty, you just gotta look around.
I collect NGp B&W and Colour on occasion, last time I got a Colour title was Nov 07, I'm not after it 'hardcore' so to speak. If a title is up on ebay and it's going cheap I grab it.

Using the Digital Press scale, I'd say the rarest games on the Neo Pocket--B&W or Color or any region--would only be R7s. And even then, I'd say borderline R6 for most of them. So compared to just about any other system, the rarest games on the Neo Pocket are still not that hard to find. Is NigeRonpa harder to find than Crush Roller? Sure, but it's still a piece of cake compared to the hardest to find games on the 2600 or NES or something.
...word is bondage...

A 40 hour battery life? Wow. The system has been very good to me so far. It's definitely the most comfortable handheld I've ever tried out. I guess all I have to do now is pick up a game besides Sonic.... I've never been a Sonic fan but it came with the system. What can ya do, right?
