Hey guys, I have a sega CD which turns on and all but the center spindle which spins the CD is gone. The metal piece still spins. Would anyone know on what to do with this? I'd have to scrap it because of something so minut. I was thinking on maybe using one from an old portable cd player.

You gotta find one almost exactly like the original. I'll post a pic of what it looks like.

EDIT: Here is a pic of the actual Sega cd spindle (model 2). Make sure you find something similar.

By the way, portable cd players generally don't use those types of spindles, they use the ones that lock the disk in place. You would need one from one of those multi disk changers or something like that.

The model 2 Sega CD had TWO different revisions, each with a different laser assembly, BIOS, motherboard, and spindle type..

The other one has a silver ring around the top part of the spindle.. the one above is black..

All black spindle: Smaller motherboard, later rev, and has ONE ribbon going from laser assembly to motherboard.

Silver Ringed Spindle: Larger motherboard?, early rev, and has a lot of wires going from laser assembly to motherboard.

I know this cause I collect Sega CD's.. :p

That's the only one I have but I assume the other revision has a similar spindle that doesn't lock right?

they all don't lock, all rely on a magnetic weight on the top lid.

That's what I figured. That's why I'm thinking the multi disk changer, dvd players, and such would have something similar.

The only reason I suggested a portable cd player was because my version has the all black spindle and I have a few sony players that have that cone shape to it and it seem's the right size. I figured if I would have to get my hands on a broken SCD to gank the spindle otherwise

If your cd player indeed has a similar one, pull it out and test it. Assuming it fits the spindle, it should work just fine.

You wouldn't even need to put the spindle on the motor.. just hold it up to the magnetic weight and make sure it securely attaches..

I will give that a try when I get home - if it works I will post it so other people will know in this kind of situation - thanks for all the feedback thus far!
