Mine are:

Getting a free Famicom
Getting a free Virtual Boy (who cares about the crap system, it's free!)
Trading half a slurpee from 7-Eleven for a Game Boy Color.

What are your awesome game moments? They don't just have to be regarding free stuff and what not.

My next one's going to be getting the original 1972 Magnavox Odyssey with 99% of the goodies. I kid you not, I'm going to videotape myself opening that box, hooking up the machine, and playing it for the first time. Kind of a lifelong collecting goal, y'know?

Also got 2 Glibs in one week for less than $20 each.
Got Panzer Dragoon Saga for $40 shipped complete

By game moments, I thought you meant gameplay, not getting stuff.

Anyways, best gameplay moment in recent memory, me and a friend were playing NBA2k3 online on the same team against some asshole, who kept on changing the camera angle even though we let him have his way in the first half, so it was only fair for us to use our camera angle in the second half. We were the Bulls and down 1 with about 10 seconds left. I had the ball, couldn't get a good shot, so I passed it to Eddy Curry and he rumbled down the lane and dunked it with 0.1 seconds left. The other dude paused for a few seconds, probably due to total shock as to what just happened. He unpaused it, and we got our victory.

Several years ago, a good friend who was feeling supremely confident in my Mario Kart 64 skills bet an aquaintance $50 that I could beat him in a "first to 10 wins" scenario. When I was down 8-4, he left the room in disgust, only to return some time later to watch my stunning 10-8 come-from-behind victory. The aquaintance (who was on his luch break) dropped his $50 and returned to work as my friend and I slapped high-fives. LOL

When I went to college two years ago, I didn't take any video game systems with me. Eventually, I found out that my roomate had once had an N64, and he was "so damn good at smash bros. as link". I told him I'd bring mine back from home next weekend, and on went the bragging about how he was going to "kick my ass with link". I think he undersestimated something; the summer before college there was squat all to do in my town, and my best friend and I played at LEAST two hours of one-on-one Super Smash Bros. EVERY NIGHT...and usually it was more like four or five hours (my job at that time was at a rec. center....we closed at eight). Anyway, when I got back after the weekend home, we loaded up smash bros. , and I proceeded to use fox, and then falcon to mop the floor with his link on evertyime out. That wouldn't be so cool, except for the fact that in the first five macthes HE NEVER LANDED A HIT ON ME. Man, I wish I were still at that skill level, I had that game down to an art. Unfortunately, when I got my gamecube, I stopped playing the N64....ah well.

Another favorite gaming moment happened just a few weeks ago, when I managed to beat a 14 year old girl at DDR in a technical tournament....by ONE POINT. That got me second in the tournament. I lost to this 12 year old kid.

By the way, I'm 20.

My favorite character in Super Smash Bros./Melee is Captain Falcon. Whenever my friends and I play, I like to pick the Pokemon Stadium level because it's a flat surface and there are no obstacles to get in the way of true contenders.

Before the match would start, I would be on the ground and my friend would start on one of the ledges. Right as the match starts I always run and kick my friend (Link) right off the ledge and he wouldn't be able to come back up. Ahh...those matches were classic! LOL LOL LOL

@buttasuperb - Game moments can be regarding gameplay if you want. Make it whatever you want.

Well:

When I bought my Sega Master System, took it home, and played Ghost House...and everything smelled new :)

When I used to stay up all night with my best friend in freezing cold air (his dad loved the a/c's on at full blast ALL THE TIME) playing with the good old Amiga.

Playing tetris on the GB when the system/game first came out and thinking it was so damn amazing that they fit a whole real game on this little tiny cartridge. The future looked bright :)

Playing Robotron at 6:30 this morning after my wife went to work and getting to the tenth board. I give all the credit to that monster double-joystick I got for the Playstation. And anyone who's wondering why this is such a big deal should know this: I suck at Robotron. But for some reason this morning - and no, I wasn't mad or otherwise upset, I was just getting a quick gaming fix before going back to sleep - I was in the zone on this one. What a thrill! In the arcade, I'd never gotten past the first Brain board. The only way I'd seen any of the game's later levels before was by using MAME's cheat mode to give myself infinite lives.

I'll now step aside and let everyone tell me that they routinely get to level 27. :P LOL

Beating Golgo 13 for the NES. Took me 7 years of playing it off-and-on to finally do it. I didn't have many problems getting to the final act (act 13), but that entire last stage was a total bitch, especially the end boss. Finally beat him on my first attempt through the level though. Man, that was a tough game.

As far as awesome game finds go, I would have to say getting Peek-A-Boo Poker and Hot Slots at a local video store complete for $5 each. Don't think I'll ever be able to top that one.

thta's what i thought about the greatest moments, playing stuff....

mine was, all around early 80's:

finally getting the trophy in 'Enduro' on VCS
finishing 'River Raid' on VCS after seven long hours
level 20 in H.E.R.O. on VCS
finishing Pitfall II, seeing the 'dance' (not perfect score though)

Wow, I just realized that I truly am still a n00b.

My greatest achievement is a simple one: I was playing a good game of Tetris and I scored 10 lines in 3 turns: 2 Tetris-s in a row, something I'd never done before. What can I say, I'm easily amused. I felt so proud 8-)

Oh, and maybe getting through Matsuri Japan on Maniac on DDR 5th Mix. That was a bitch to finally get through.

Everytime I reach that "zone" when playing Puzzle Bobble (or any variation of) and nothing or anyone can stop me. (Tetsu can vouch)
The first time I beat a game: Aladdin for SNES.

As far as finds:
When my Space Channel 5 Part 2 LE set showed up in the mail (I don't care how much I paid ^_^)
When a friend gave me about 100 Atari & Coleco games with a Colecovision for free (Revenge of the Beefsteak Tomatoes, Stampede, Wabbit, Dishaster, etc.)

I don't know if I've posted this story before, but...

Back in about 1989 I got SMB2 for my birthday and subsequently mastered it. I could finish it easily and used to brag to the other grade-sixers about my SMB2 accomplishments. Well word must have got around because one day after school a bunch of older scarry looking guys (I was 11, they were high school age; maybe 16) backed me into a corner on the schoolgrounds. I thought they were going to beat the living shit out of me, but they didn't. One of the guys says "I hear you can beat Mario 2". I swallowed the lump in my throat and replied with a feeble "yup". So he says "prove it".

They took me back to one of their houses and popped the SMB2 cart into the Nintendo. I grabbed the controller and proceeded to beat the game, without warping, in front of these guys. Every so often one guy would yell "holy shit" or "how did you do that?".

So there I am afterwards sitting there with these older guys who all have this look of astonishment on their faces. As I'm leaving one guy says "Hey kid". I turn around to face him and he says, "you're pretty good". I reply "thanks" and walked out the door feeling like a king. ....and that was my greatest gaming moment.

I remember at CGE this year when I was talking to somebody (I don't remember his name, sadly) and he brought up that he'd heard the Twin Galaxies high line score for Nintendo Tetris on the NES was 204, then realizing that my personal best was 214. And I remember playing to 214, that was a BITCH. @_@

So was this one: I'm the only person I know of (as of right now, anyway) that has beaten Intelligent Qube for the PS1. I did, got about 950,000 points, and an I.Q. of about 393. I need to get back into that game and beat it with on video so that I can turn it in to TG and earn my rightful world record high score. :D

First was getting such a high score in Megamenia on my 2600 that the game froze. Second was when I beat pitfall (ok, no real ending but the game stoped). The latest was beating Gunvalkry on the x-box. Its hard, but oh so good. If only they had mapped out the controls better.

Game purchases? Finding Ogre Battle with box and instructions for 5$. Thats not all, but one of the best. Way to many to list off for that.

I've previously mentioned my "Mortal Kombat" and "Mortal Kombat II" prowess in eariler posts. Seriously. I was untouchable. I miss those days.

However, the best video gaming moment of my life was something that's now referred to as "The 2001 'Power Stone' Pornography Classic."

The story begins with me and my two friends hitting up the 7-11 before a night out. I noticed there was a nice selection of Asian-themed pornography behind the counter, and thus, make a remark about it to my Asian friend.

"Hey Atsushi! Look! 'Young Asian Gash!' Check it out!"

Atsushi is an odd fella. He usually has no problem buying pornography. However, he COULDN'T STAND the idea of buying Asian-themed porn; especially from the young Korean guy working at the 7-11, as we had established a friendship with him. We had a conversation about this very subject after leaving the store. He just thought it was "weird" for an Asian guy to be buying Asian porn from an Asian clerk.

Cut to a few hours later... We're back at my place playing "Power Stone." I've beaten Atsushi without losing a round in five matches. He appears upset. Thus, I begin taunting him. Eventually, we begin to speak of a bet.

The bet was as follows: If I won 20 consecutive matches without losing a single round, he would have to go back to the 7-11 and buy me "Young Asian Gash," or whatever, from his Korean clerk pal. However, if at any time Atsushi won a SINGLE ROUND, I would have to drive to Tower Records and buy him gay pornography. It should be noted that neither Atsushi nor myself are gay males. It was agreed however, that the humiliation I would exeperience from purchasing gay pornography was greater than or equal to the humiliation that Atsushi would experience from purchasing Asian pornography.

Hey. We were younger.

Anyway, I think you know how the story ends.

In Match 20, Atsushi had me down to the tiniest sliver of life left. He had about 3/4 of his meter full.

I rallied and beat him. 20-0. Not. A. Single. Round. Lost.

We all piled into the car and drove to 7-11. Of course, upon approaching the counter, Atsushi said to the clerk "Hey, it's not for me. It's for a friend..."

To which the clerk replied, "Yeah whatever, you perv."

After devising each plan I successfully completing them-

I got into Tiger/Lion Man's level using Mouse Man in Wonderboy III/Dragon's Curse, made it to and beat the boss. It morphed me straight into Bird Man(with all of the morphs inbetween available).

I used the Panthor form in Shapeshifter to jump up and at the height of each jump I morphed and jumped and repeated until I made it up to where you enter the final are with the Phoenix.

In both games I pretty much jumped to the end of each game after the second boss.

Well, if you've never played these games, I'll try to use a couple mainstream games as examples.

I basically beat the first dungeon in the original Legend Of Zelda, then used mad skills to get into the last dungeon and immediately finish the game.

After escaping Midgar at the beginning of Final Fantasy VII, I right away jumped down the crater that doesn't exist yet and murdered Sephiroth.

It was the end of the summer of 1986. I had just bought and started playing Ultima IV on my Commodore 64.

It was time, however, to move to the city and into my first apartment at the start of my sophmore year of college. My roommate and I moved in and set the place up. Then he went back home for a week, because school wasn't set to start for 2 more weeks.

So, I had the apartment to myself for a week.
No friends around.
No girlfriend.
No job.
No school.

Just me, Ultima IV, a bag of...um herbs, and a lot of vodka.

It was a week in paradise.

Another moment in gaming greatness:

It was the early eighties. As usual, myself and two friends were staying overnight in my parent's finished basement, for a night of junk food and Atari and Odyssey 2 gaming.

My one friend Andy and I went on the snack run to the local convenience store, leaving Barry behind to play Atari. When Andy and I got to the conveneince store, we spotted a new video game where the old Frogger machine had been.

This was a noisy sounding space game. We walked over and took a look at it. The first thing that struck us were the controls. There were a lot more buttons than we were used to at the time. An up-down joystick, a fire button, a hyperspace button, a reverse button, a smart bomb button.

We were a bit dumbfounded at first. We watched it's attract mode a bit and then decided to try it. It was insanely hard at first and we were ready to dismiss it. But, we tried it again and both did better.

And better, and better, as the hours faded away. Finally, after some time playing, we remembered our mission to get munchies and made our purchase and returned home. Barry had long since fallen asleep.

We told him about the new game, Defender, the next morning, and returned to play it in the afternoon.

My most memorable moment was playing smash bros for 64. you know how sometimes you get in the "gaming zone?" like when you're playin unreal and you spawn w/ 50 enemies next to you and you take em all out by yourself, then you infiltrate the other base taking everyone else one by one, then grabbing the flag, using the impact hammer (cuz ur out of ammo) to kill 3 or 4 more tryin to kill you, then teleporting to the redeemer, then runnin out and firing it behind you to get a couple of monster kills, then seeing someone with your flag and kill them with the impact hammer, and then you finally get the winning point.

well, that's how i felt when i was playin with my 3 other friends (the best smash bros players that i know). i use fox, and we had the match on 5 lives. i dont remember what happened after that, but, when i came to, the match was over, i had 15 kills, and 5 lives left. it was kind of weird, cuz usually, i come out w/ around 9 kills and 2 lives left. it was like i "achieved the glow" (G4, for those who watch). That was a great day.
