Wow. Wow.
A few things of note:
The DS - I knew it was big over in Japan, but I never knew it was THAT big! 6 out of every 10 video game systems sold were DS's in 2006!
The PSP has never even been close to the DS. Outsold 6:1 or more each year.
Microsoft? Almost nowhere to be found... I thought they might just have ignored (or not had) MS numbers, but the Xbox 1 shows up as a blip once in 2002. Has the 360 done just as poorly that it's not even .5% (what the Xbox was in 2002)?

Also interesting to note is that the Japanese begin to really love their handhelds beginning around '97. The Game Boy takes up more space than the SFC and N64 combined.
But I have a few questions: What does this pie chart show? Is it console sales? Is it game sales? Is it net profit? Also, where are the statistics coming from?
It's probably in the beginning, but I can't read Japanese. Translation?

The final rundown is the most stunning. Sony had a huge wallop in 1997 and Nintendo has been picking the market share back slowly through 2005. Sony dropped their defenses, big time, and payed for it. 2006 was the DS-jab and 2007 was the Wii-DS reverse-backhand combo that put Sony in the hole they are currently occupying. I never realized that it went down like that. I wonder what the North America and Europe pie chart story would tell... :? I'm sure it wouldn't be as dramatic and DC would have bigger slices, but fade just the same.
The Sony fans must feel like the Nintendo fans did in 1997.

That is insane how much sony went from a power house to a little ball being ravaged by a red pac-man...all is right with the world again

What I learned from watching that :
Sony, at one point was a big blue Pac-Man eating Sega and Nintendo.

Since it was blue I just thought it was a ghost, incognito. ;)

Exactly, except great games were being released for the Nintendo 64.
